I haven’t seen stampede yet this season, but picked Red Devils to win in a close final. Third time lucky.

If we weren’t red, then we couldn’t be the Red Devils!  Imagine a devil in yellow and blue.  Bet you can’t without laughing.  It’s just not feasible to have a devil in anything but the color of blood.

Also, if someone showed me a blue cow, I don’t think I would want to eat it.  That’s just unhealthy!  When you cook your favorite cut of beef, the most popular way to serve is medium rare.  A perfectly cooked steak at medium rare should be what color in the middle?  That’s right folks, RED….maybe pink for some but we won’t get into that.

I think that Canterbury is going to be the top team but with a some very very close games against Stampede.  Canterbury has beaten every team that the Stampede has by greater margins and I personally got to play against both teams well kinda got to play against both teams and I believe Canterbury is stronger.  It was mentioned that the defense has yet to be tested but that has to say something crediting the Devils.  If their defense has yet to be tested then maybe their offense is far better then any other in the league which has been shown with the league point leaders.  Stampede is a great team but going to have a rough go with Canterbury.

    Canterbury
    Stampede
    Botany
    Admirals
    Thunder

That is how it what I think it will turn out as but not how I want it to.

Im gonna use south to North logic. Logic tells me that Dunedin although very much south aint gonna make the finals. That leaves the stampede being my favourite because they are the next southernmost team and part of Otago. Of course if they dont make the final Ill support the next southernmost team,Canterbury (reluctantly) against an Auckland team. Because my knowledge of Auckland is scant logic tells me that I cant rightly support any Auckland based team and also because they are ….well… Aucklanders.
    Wow! logic is so profound

I’m pretty sure the comment regarding Canterbury’s defense to yet be tested is in regards to the fact that Canterbury have only played Thunder and Admirals – meaning neither team are very strong offensively therefore their defense has not yet been tested. This will be the weekend to judge, when they play the Swarm who actually put more than 15 shots on.

One thing I noticed about the first Thunder vs Red Devils game down here in Dunedin was that the Red Devils defensemen were not pushed at all. I think that was primarily an artifact of the fact that the Thunder just didn’t seem to be able to control the puck up the ice the way that the Red Devils did, and consequently didn’t put on the kind of offensive pressure needed to really show the Red Devils’ defensive capabilities.

As I put it to one of my friends who was also at the game, “This is called dump and chase, except there’s an awful lot of dump and not a lot of chase”.

I think that to make any comment on who is the likely finalist at the moment is flawed due to the season schedule. You would think that with a double round robin that all teams would play each once before starting the second round.

Having viewed more games than most people down south I suspect that the Swarm will only improve over the coming weeks. This will suit the Stampede more than the Devils as they have already completed their games against the Swarm.

We can discount both the Thunder and Admirals from the final scenario and focus on the other three remaining teams.

The Devils have a long grind ahead due to their schedule of games and having had their byes already. Injuries and sickness could play havoc later.

The Stampede will enjoy the break this weekend to let injuries/illnesses recover before travelling to Chch for the following round.

The Swarm have already played the Stampede and now have the motivation to beat the Devils in at 50% of their games to be in with a chance to make the finals. It could come down to goal difference and the final games against the lower teams.

The next two weekends in Chch will give a good indication on the which two teams will make the final.

I am also curious why some people make sweeping generalisations, for example, the reffing was mediocre but they fail to say why and for what reason they thought that.

after watching all the stampedes home games, prior to the swarm round this weekend the stampede have not really come under offensive pressures playing against the thunder and admirals, showing this is they had 3 shutouts in those 4 games conceding 2 goals to the admirals, bonazzo making those happen. i think the team would’ve taken it hard if they had let in week goals against such sloppy offenses

the swarm who’s last round was against the stampede have had 2 weeks to prepare for these games and the stampede who came off average competition the week prior to the thunder took sometime to get into the game and pulling together a 4 all draw, the following night winning 3-1 after mounting penalties and plenty of offensive threat. showing me they have the potential to go all the way, 7 out of 8 points against the swarm is a huge boost to there season and now have 1 team standing in there way to secure a home final!!

the round this weekend will be the telling of the devils who i believe can win comfortably just because of the scoring abilities but think they may need to concentrate on there defence as its from stats there week point. the swarm will be out to stir as much shit as they can and how ever they can. not sure how the devils like it physical because the swarm hit alot, stampede aren’t a big hitting team other that argyle and looked as if they loved it!! and feed off it!!

looking forward to the results from this weekend!! gonna be a great second half to the season!

this forums great by the way, cant wait for the devils round and go the stampede

Canterbury is quite a physical team much more so then Stampede as you said Argyle is the exception and plays an awesome physical game.  I think that the fact that when Thunder played Stampede they were able to have a solid forcheck which made the Stampede cough the puck up quite a few times shows a little of the problems Stampede might have.  Canterbury has the top forward lines in the league.  If a Thunders forcheck can put that much pressure on Stampede and keep them in their zone then I think a solid Canterbury forecheck could potentially do more damage.  In any case we’ll just have to see what the outcome of the games are.

Old timers utilise that method known as dump and watch

I usually use the “dump and let someone else chase” approach <img decoding=” title=”Tongue” />

you think the thunder had a solid forecheck, they didn’t! it was unstructured along with alot of other play. you dont concede 60 shots against with a solid forecheck, if it was solid that would be  alot lower. i dont wanna look one sided its just what i was watching. im thinking that some of the stampedes errors at the back are sometimes a little unforced but will improve on this with training. the swarm had a “solid forecheck” which the stampede had trouble with! they had 3 good, fast forward lines that were causing problems from the first game which the stampede adjusted well in the later periods.

you say canterbury have the top forward lines in the league, as it looks by the stats they have the top line so far producing alot of goals in very few games. i believe they will be a hand fill and will be tough for the southern d men. should be an interesting clash!!

im just from queenstown and supporter of stampede as you can tell.
