As the tital may sujest, im a newbie to the sport. Iv just finished my second ever season playing for the Isle of Wight Lightning (U14s, England). My name Oliver Finch.
Overall this season i have picked up 9 points this season, 5 goals and 4 assists, and 6pm. 2 for tripping, 2 for high sticking, 2 for boarding. The hockey club is very small and this season we started off with 9 u14s registered so we had to borrow 5 from the u12s (the Tornadoes). We proved all pre season expectations wrong by coming second in the league and winning the Ebony plate and the Fair play award at Bracknell Hummers international tournament.
Here is pritty much how our season ended.

We are at the other end of the country from there unfortunately. You will find more information on the AIHA website … http://aiha.org.nz/

My friend Kerry plays somewhere down in Southern England and says the level of play there is lower than here, but it’s difficult to judge since both countries will have big discrepencies in playing level depending on where you are.
The most popular area for hockey is the Southern region where we are, there are a lot more rinks down here than up north, although each rink tends to be a lot less busy than their northern counterparts due to the small population down this way. The busiest city for hockey is probably Auckland, so as far as good local competition goes you are in one of the better places.
Hopefully someone who has played in both the UK and NZ will be able to let you know more about the comparison between hockey in the two countries.

You’ll be playing U16 in Auckland – contact the league director (check the AIHA website for details) and they will assess you and assign you to one of the two Botany based U16 teams. It’s not club based at this level.Hope it all works out for you.
