Um me Joe and his boys were down there just an hour ago, having a hit around, its working good, Maybe need to put something hard and high behind the net cos fishing the pucks out of the netting is a pain in the arse.

Or y’know. Shoes.
May 30, 2007 at 7:54 am #2528Azzy77ModeratorWhat are these s…ss…ssshho..shoes you speak of, they intrigue me.
May 30, 2007 at 8:16 am #2529JoeMemberShoes are the way to go. Fancy that. Just take an old stick and cut it shorter so the basic physics are the same.
I spent another day working on the gallery with Hans. We got a lot done today. And James is almost finished with reinforcing the dasher boards.
It should be fully functional soon. It’s not a big space, it will probably feel quite full with 4 people shooting and it will take some effort to make sure you don’t drill your shooting buddy. Unless you want to drill your shooting buddy.May 30, 2007 at 8:29 am #2530Azzy77ModeratorJoe, I thought I saw you trying to ake my head off while retreving a puck, you gotta let the fact I rob you all the time go man, beat one on one, not by taking my head off first, although I am under the suspision thats how New Zealanders are taught to shoot , Kill the goalie, before the team has time to replace him stuff it in the net.
What the hell else is a slapshot around my head meant to achieve…
May 30, 2007 at 11:15 am #2531PaulyMemberThe shooting gallery is now operational. Try not to lean on the boards because the aren’t very strong, but they will handle any shot you can throw at them.
Bring your own pucks, there aren’t any laying around as of wednesday night, and I recommend having a cheaper stick to use so you don’t destroy your fancy carbon one. They new lights have made it a lot nicer and remove the feeling of being in a cave, also there is full netting so nothing will get broken. Have fun and be safe.-Paul
May 30, 2007 at 12:10 pm #2532imported_RyanMemberAwesome ” title=”Smiley” /> I’ll be down tomorrow to check it out ” title=”Smiley” />
And welcome to the forum Pauly ” title=”Smiley” />Ryan,

May 31, 2007 at 12:04 am #2534JoeMemberI should mention that my son Paul (Pauly) put in two days of labour down at the shooting gallery too.
We did a little shooting yesterday and used both real pucks and in-line pucks. It’s a good combination. We might have to figure out a way to make more pucks are available (maybe have a bag of the old worn out pucks that you can borrow/sign out) so that shooters don’t spend all of their time chasing pucks.
We’re not finished yet, there are still some things that need work but it is usable now. In particular we’re going to add more netting behind the net so if you miss on you top shelf shot the puck won’t go behind the dasher boards. The boards would not hold up to repeated climbing over them to fetch your pucks.
May 31, 2007 at 1:25 pm #2535imported_RyanMemberBeen, seen and loved it ” title=”Smiley” />
I tried both ice pucks and inline pucks tonight. They both worked fine, albeit the ice pucks aren’t too good for puck handling practice but they’re fine for shooting with. I haven’t tried skating on it yet (inline) but I’ll probably have a crack tomorrow night and see how it goes. It looks like it’ll be grippy enough as is, but once the construction is totally over I volunteer to mop the hell out of it to remove any dust and grime which is stuck to it at the moment.
The surface is slick enough that a few layers of tape should stand up to quite a few slap shots. So as long as you’re careful, your fancy carbon stick should be safe. Personally I’m too lazy to replace my tape so I’ll be sticking an ABS blade on my spare shaft, plus ABS is slipperier on concrete. ABS blades are bullet proof on smooth concrete so should last for yonks, just be careful of those fragile wood and composite blades.
Also, I’m not sure how long that goal of Zanzee’s is going to last up there. I put a dent in it the first time I shot a puck at it! Plus there’s a bunch of other dents in it already. There’s a bunch of goals lying around (6 in total) so even if Zanzee’s one does die we do have replacements. Zanzee’s one is far prettier though, it’s still shiny and red ” title=”Smiley” /> Plus the shooter tutor is really handy – no point practicing shooting a puck into an open net ” title=”Tongue” />
Ryan,
PS: thanks to Paul, Joe, Hans and Bode for all the work they put into building this thing.
May 31, 2007 at 9:28 pm #2536Jono_Memberso what’s the process of being able to use this thing? We just turn up at the rink anytime we want and say we are here to use the shooting gallery and go and use it, or do we need a key or something?

[/quote:1wbl8fws]At the moment it seems to be free and there’s no lock on the door. I’m certain that will be changing shortly though. Details will be posted when they become available.
Ryan,
June 1, 2007 at 1:32 am #2538JoeMemberHans has ordered a coin-operated box that will control the lights. It should be installed in a couple of weeks.
The current net won’t last long, we’ll need a real one up there soon.
Here’s some pictures to show you what it is looking like so far.

Ryan,
June 1, 2007 at 2:14 am #2540Jono_MemberAny chance someone has some old crappy pucks hanging around in a cupboard or something, that could be let down there for those of us with no such resource?
