MemberI think that if the thunder start winning consistantly that we will draw the biggest crowds. after all there arnt any other Dunedin teams that win anything so it would make a nice change for the punters (think basketball or rugby)

MemberDoes anyone know what the maximum capacity of the Dunedin rink is now that the big empty balcony area above the rink has been built?

MemberWhen a teams getting smoked that often and that regurlary why would you pay at kleast $10 and give up your night, I agree with Regan.
Now with the pre season game results hopefully this year is different!

ModeratorWell I believe the seating caters for like (just estimates) bottom stands (200+200)? and maybe 1200 in the balcony….so thats like 1600
I would imagine that the general populous is not getting into the big empty balcony, its probably reserved for sponsors or corporates, if it is used at all during games, it requires extra staff to be put on. You could probably put another 200 up there.June 2, 2010 at 9:29 pm #15466Kyle
MemberCapacity of the stands, once you fill up the area right out to the left above the curling rink where there aren’t any seats, is about 2000. Plus upstairs – about 2250.
For a big event you’d put more stands on the curling rink. The building could technically hold about 5000, whether or not that is practical given access and fire regs and the ability to process people in fast enough I’m not sure.

MemberI don’t think they’re allowed to have 2000 in that main stand due to fire regulations.
June 2, 2010 at 10:57 pm #15468Rhys M
MemberI think with fire regs is where youll strike trouble, thats when you start to require things like wardens, certain rated alarms, also it depends on the number of exits in the building, i can think of two at the back of stands, one each side down the gbottom, harder to get to though, max capcity is general effected by amount of exits avaialble in the eyes of the fire inspector, we’ve had issues before like that doing some shows, more exits, more people pretty much due to the building has to be emptied in a certain time i believe
The you have to have more extingushers and things like that located in certain places,

ModeratorIf we start having problems due to us getting enough people to warrant visit fire inspector, we would be pretty stoked I think.
Its better than having so few people that we have to deal with tumbleweed inspector

I am going to bring this topic back on track, by posting this audioclip that I haven’t actually listened to yet (due to no web audio capabilities on work comp)
I assume its worth listening too, but like I said I haven’t listened so I can’t comment -
