Dunedin was 7-4 to Stampede. Dunedin 1-0 up at the end of the 1st, but then a horror second period – 4 straight goals, including a 3 on 5 short handed goal.
Four players sent from the ice for fighting in the third – Frear and Watson from Thunder, Spiers and one other from Stampede.
June 5, 2010 at 12:30 pm #15490imported_RyanMember7 – 4 to Stampede. Pretty awesome to see the Thunder do so well ” title=”Smiley” /> Hopefully they do just as well tomorrow!
June 5, 2010 at 9:36 pm #15491GasmanMemberhell not only did the teams take a dislike to each other and niggle all game long the Officals also took a pasting through the game. I saw the Ref get choped down with his skates taken out from under him, kyle ended up hitting rough ice going backwards and ended up against the boards. To top it off i think they all got rolled at various times along the boards.
hard passes all night kept peppering the Officals in the legs,Skates and body.I am sure they are going to be feeling a bit sore, today.
It was pleassing to see some steel and grit from the thunder tonight.
Bring on game 2,Admirals Eh. only one person picked it!!!
June 5, 2010 at 10:11 pm #15492KyleMemberPaul at least got taken down by a player, I did my typical unassisted trick. Hit by the puck twice, once was my fault for having my skates the wrong way, the other one a Thunder player fired it straight into my thigh. Glad I had my pads on. And I got in the way of a Stampede player coming back from the blue line.
Hard game all around. Broke up three tussles. 3 on 3 was crazy.
June 5, 2010 at 10:34 pm #15493GasmanMemberTussle? is that one step down from fighting. You really did have your hands full out there last night. Hope the boys play the puck a bit more rather than throwing haymakers around tonight. this isn’t Rural you know!
June 6, 2010 at 12:00 am #15494TomMembergood to see some fight last night
June 6, 2010 at 12:09 am #15495thirteenMemberyea shame bout being 3 on 5 though. i would be interested to know what the penalties given were? ie; match or game misconduct. as game misconduct doesnt leave a man in the box for 5 minutes. so one would assume a match penalty, which would mean the players are out of the next game. but in saying this, rule 512 states that if there are identical penalties served to each team at the same time then they shall be coincidental so immediate substitution shall be permitted, ie; the 2 match penalties with 5 minute majors should have cancelled each other out, an d so both teams should have been playing 5 on 5. good to see this was well called…
then after the 5 minute majors, which both teams should have had guys in the bin for, but wouldnt have been down men, afterthey had finnished was when dunlops 2 minute minor should have started, thus leaving the thunder down to 4 on 5 until stampede got their minor penaltie in the dying minutes.
Mathews was in outstanding form as normal on the lines though, shame about the other guy, one would have thought he may have needed glasses, but since he was already wearing them, maybe he should have taken them off???June 6, 2010 at 1:35 am #15496KyleMemberPenalties were majors – 5+ automatic game misconduct. Yes, should have played 5 on 5, we discussed this after the game.
From the case book:
“1. A3 – 5 minutes + GM at 3:00 B8 – 5 minutes + GM at 3:00
At 3:00 teams play 5 on 5
Teams do not need to put substitute players in the penalty bench because A3
and B8 are out of the game”TV3 story about ice hockey and the national league that was on the other night:
June 6, 2010 at 8:00 am #15497vpatrolMemberAdmirals win 4-3 late against the Devils. Stampede win too but not sure of the score. 6-2?
June 6, 2010 at 9:42 am #15498kelf6966MemberYip final score 6 – 2
June 6, 2010 at 10:17 am #15499imported_RyanMemberAnother good game to watch.
I kept hearing that the Stampede were a weaker team this year, but it didn’t look like that to me. It just appeared that the Thunder had upped their game considerably from last season.
James van Leeuwen is far less amusing to watch coaching though. No screaming hissy fits, no fencing removal, nothing. BORING!
June 6, 2010 at 11:22 am #15500KyleMemberDuncan Sykes had the misfortune to block a shot with his mouth and lost a tooth on the ice, plus others apparently bent but still in.
Better game all round than yesterday I thought.
Vince you need to give us some more about the Canterbury-Admirals games. You would have got great odds for two admirals wins, how did that happen? Canterbury not playing well, admirals stepping up, goalie having a mare/other goalie doing some head standing?

I don’t think weaker is the right word, just younger, great to see the team come away with a couple of good wins.
June 6, 2010 at 12:55 pm #15502ActiveMemberI thought the stampedes core of experienced players showed through today but the thunder are much stronger and will pick up some wins. Was that Braden Lee exiting the game avoiding shaking everyones hand? he either showed a complete lack of repect for the game or really needed to go to the toilet bad.
June 6, 2010 at 8:44 pm #15503KyleMemberThe teams weren’t very friendly at the hand shake. End of the game had some very bad feeling.
