Over on the DIHA site there is a post about shinny hockey on Saturday nights … http://dunedinicehockey.hellyer.kiwi/shinny-sa … july-7-30/

Shinny for those of you who don’t know, is a Canadian word which basically means social hockey. It’s usually played outdoor with no goalies and the puck isn’t allowed to go above skate level, but it’s also played as a regular non-checking game indoors with goalies too.

What I don’t understand though, is what the “shinny ball” they are planning to use is. Has anyone heard of a shinny ball before? Regular pucks are the norm except for with little tots who struggle to handle a proper puck properly.

There are ball-hockey balls, which are usually orange and squishy. But I haven’t heard of people using them for shinny before.

    Any ideas?

rule number 1 –  no goalies allowed… are we allowed as players if we still have random bits of player gear floating around?

    Just being picky
