This is a transcript from the previous forum. Due to technical reasons we weren’t able to directly transfer the posts to this new forum.

Posted: Oct 12 2005, 10:54 PMThanks dude
This website stuff is becoming a tad addictive though. I keep thinking of extra stuff to add all the time and it’s sucking up ridiculous amounts of my time, but it’s fun so I don’t mind too much. Am currently trying to get someone to host the darn thing for me so I don’t need to worry about band width so much, but I haven’t heard anything back yet.
If any of you know someone who has a server and wouldn’t mind the site being uploaded to it I’d be really appreciative. Geocities is really crappy and I’d be keen for just a little bit more bandwidth to play with. Particularly if the site gets visited more regularly as it’ll start having some serious issues then. Getting rid of the ads would be nice too.

I’ll ask around my computer mates and see if any one has a server running, if so I’ll c what can be done.

Posted: Apr 1 2006, 09:32 PMThe site has been updated recently, including new photos on the DIHL photos page and the addition of an “Easton Cup” page.
Plus the DIHA is looking at the possibility of paying for webhosting so we may soon have a bottomless pit of bandwidth That would be awesome as I could start uploading a bunch of movies and stuff to the site and would make my job updating a lot easier as Geocities is a real bitch for updating if you’re not willing to pay for the service. We’d also get a more professional web address like http://www.dunedinicehockey.com or .co.nz or something and we could host this forum on it too – it’s technically on a seperate site at the moment you see.
Also, the HTML has been cleaned up and the site should now be compatible with ALL browsers – in theory.
Can anyone who is using anything but Opera, Firefox or IE Explorer do me a favour and have a squizz through the site and see if anything looks wrong or is buggy at all? In theory it should be perfect, or atleast Dreamweaver thinks it is.
I know the site was a dog to use in Mac Safari in the past so hopefully I’ve fixed that now. Thanks,
Ryan

Posted: Apr 10 2006, 01:06 PMWoohoo smile.gif Webhosting will be coming soon smile.gif
The DIHA has agreed to pay for webhosting for us smile.gif
So no more annoying adverts and slow download times.
Plus we can store heaps more photos, videos, anything we want. Not sure when this will be completely organised but shouldn’t be too far away. I’m meeting with Graeme Sykes tomorrow to discuss various options.

Nothing on there yet as I haven’t been given any info. about how to go about updating it yet, but hopefully after Easter the site will have moved there smile.gif Plus probably the forum too, but I need to figure out how to do that first! We may end up losing all of our current posts in the move unfortunately though sad.gif
This current site seems to be a little bugged so I’m quite keen to properly host it on our own site – it’s currently hosted by a crappy freeby web company and any of you who have used it already will probably have noticed that it’s quite often not working.
I’ll leave this current forum open but might lock everything so noone can make any new posts – just view the exisiting ones.
If anyone out there knows how to move exisiting posts/info. to another site then please let me know.

Posted: Apr 25 2006, 08:29 PMHmm, it seems the web hosting company is taking it’s time.
New site should be up and running at some stage – not sure when though.I made a new menu system and rejigged the layout of the site a little for the new site. I gave up waiting for it to come online though and now the new design is present on the Home and Mangle pages.

Posted: Apr 28 2006, 12:38 PMThe new site is up and running smile.gif

If you spot any bugs please let me know.
There will soon be a redirect from the original website to the new one.
Am just waiting to check that there are no major bugs with the new site before setting up the redirect.Ryan,
kyleYou might of course find that whoever is hosting the new site, isn’t able to run a forum such as this on the site. Or they might charge you more for doing so.
Personally, I have no problem with the forum where it is and how it is, seems to work fine, and if it remains free…
Ryan
Posted: Apr 28 2006, 06:40 PMShouldn’t be a problem as the new site supports PHP and MySQL databases. I think they’re all that’s needed to host most web forums.
I’ve been having issues with the current one as it tends to be down for large periods of time fairly often which is a pain in the butt. Plus I can’t back it up without paying US$20.
I’ll transfer the old posts over to the new one though, albeit they may not count towards peoples post count.
April 30, 2006 at 9:57 am #1280AnonymousInactiveall looking good Ryan.
The link to next weekend’s NC tournament on the front page is broken.
April 30, 2006 at 8:50 pm #1281imported_RyanMemberOops, thanks for pointing that out.
Will correct that this afternoon.Ryan,
PS: welcome to the board and feel free to register and let us know who you are
April 30, 2006 at 11:06 pm #1282imported_RyanMemberSNC and midgets schedule for this weekend is now fixed.
May 2, 2006 at 10:24 pm #1283imported_RyanMemberWe now have our first video on the home page ” title=”Smiley” />
Plus the weekly DIHL stats are up.
May 3, 2006 at 2:37 am #1284imported_RyanMemberThere seems to be a bug in the forum. You can’t upload avatars directly to the forum. I’m not sure what the problem is but hopefully will sort it out soon. In the mean time you can email me your avatar and I’ll upload it to the site for you.
May 4, 2006 at 5:15 am #1285imported_RyanMemberBug is now fixed. The avatar directory didn’t have the correct access settings so it couldn’t be written to.
There’s also a set of avatars in the gallery now.
May 24, 2006 at 7:59 am #1286matt aMemberhey man, i cant get any picture whatsoever to below 6kb with any programs i have on my computer, and all the avatars in the gallery look way more intense than 6kb

My avatar is about 3.5 kB I think.
What programs are you using to compress/shrink them?I didn’t realise that most of the gallery photos are over 6 kB! They seem to work anyway though, they just haven’t been compressed very much that’s all. You shouldn’t need that much file space though.
May 25, 2006 at 2:49 am #1288imported_RyanMemberI’ve increased the maximum avatar size to 12 kB now. Hopefully that will be big enough for you.
If that’s still not big enough then you’re definitely doing something grossly wrong and you should send your avatar to me to have a look at/compress for you. This is a 235×170 pixel image of me and it’s only 10 kB I think. So you can definitely make these things with very small file sizes. I did that with Paint Shop Pro but if you use Adobe Photoshop or The GIMP then you can compress them even further – albeit with more compression errors.
[img:1uh7h7zk]http://www.dunedinicehockey.co.nz/photos/150x215framed/ryanhellyer.jpg[/img:1uh7h7zk]This one was compressed with The GIMP, it’s 18 kB but also 640×640 resolution!

There’s also some new videos on the videos page too.
Ryan,
May 27, 2006 at 5:46 am #1290KyleMemberThat’s a heap of photos. Good stuff.
http://www.dunedinicehockey.hellyer.kiwi/photo … 06as31.jpg
that’s not bullfrogs vs sharks. that’s you playing JMs. The whole rest of that row (last row which read as Bullfrogs vs Sharks) are also Ducks vs JMs.
Go the videos. More of them!
May 28, 2006 at 3:31 am #1291imported_RyanMemberCrazily we’re going to run out of server space soon! We’re currently using ~80 MB out of 100 MB!
There are higher quality versions of the 320×240 res. videos here…
http://www.dunedinicehockey.hellyer.kiwi/videos/unused/
I haven’t bothered posting them on the main site as we’ll eventually run out of room, but they’re there for your amusement.Ryan,
May 28, 2006 at 8:04 pm #1292KyleMemberSeriously, for videos, you should post them to youtube and link to them or something. I think their urls are permanent.
That way you could have hundreds available and never run into space problems.
May 29, 2006 at 12:41 am #1293imported_RyanMemberI’ve never heard of that before. I’ll look into it.
