So good games this weekend is the word going around. Gore basically didn’t have much of a side and then Queenstown brought a strong side but got powned by hard work. Penguins dominated the show.
haha yea awesome games, we got our asses saved by our goalies numerous times in both games though. good work lads.Bloody Izzy and Mike played out of their skins all day it was great stuff

On the topic of spankings:
Dunedin peewees played Gore and Maniototo today in Gore.
They beat Gore 22-0, and Maniototo 20-1.
In a couple of months the team will have won every game for three full years.
Has anyone taught them the unofficial ’10 goal limit’?
It’s gotta be pretty demotivating for the other teams when they get hammered that severely.

I’ll suit up for Gore and Maniototo. No one will know. I bet I could keep the score to under 18 goals against.

It’s hard for kids not to score when they have the puck, and as a coach there’s a limit to what you can do and still motivate your kids and keep them enthused. If we’d stopped at 10 goals the games would have finished by the end of the first period.
We’re also going to talk to Christchurch and see if we can go up there for a weekend and play some of their peewee teams. We’ll get competitive games against Queenstown in this grade, but all the other teams are basically running squads of beginners, and we don’t travel with beginner kids, they’re still playing kiwihockey.
if you think your doing the right thing by pulling players during the game that just teaches the kids to be cocky and while you are talking about the other teams playing with a base of mostly beginners then maybe you should give some of your beginners a taste of peewee and have a more even game. cause you do want them to keep wanting to play

Our beginner kids don’t play peewee hockey, we bring them up from kiwihockey to peewees once they’re playing at the right level. It’s a luxury that other clubs don’t necessarily have.
We try and work our kids hard during their games no matter what the opposition, keep them backchecking, passing on offence and playing a team game. We also try not to just run up the score against weaker teams as that doesn’t serve either side any good. Hence with one sub, we don’t mind pulling a second one to the bench for a few minutes to keep the ones on the ice active.
I actually think Tom Wilson Lovers has a good point, why not do it the other way around??
If your peewees are so good they are pounding the other teams, why not send the Kiwi hockey players to play around the region so those competitions are even.
And have your strong Peewee players play intra-club games with themselves so they are even competition and you don’t have to worry about them playing short handed??
And then the best kids can travel to Christchurch.If our peewees are so strong, what happens at midget level? Why the drop off in supremacy? Surely some of our early peewees have gone to this grade, yet at this level the win record is not that flash.
Our peewee players already play intra-club games amongst themselves, it happens most Saturdays.
The kids like to travel, they like to play in other rinks, and they like to score goals and win.
We’ve discussed not taking some of them, neither the kids nor the parents want to do that.
Peewees were in Queenstown on Saturday and beat Gore (14-0 I think) and Alexandra (11-5).
Also a bunch of Dunedin Peewees have been named in a strong Southern Peewees team to go up to Nationals this year: Jacob Hurring, Hadley Johnston, Xavier Aliberch-Wood, Caitlin Heale, Noah Leahy, Daniel Robertson, Ben Wallis. Also from Dunedin are manager Janine Hurring, Coach Sophia Leon de la Barra, and Assistant Coach Callum Wood.
