[/quote:3gu8y11m]I can counter that by saying, I’m a player of ice hockey, and I get a bunch of stuff that I want to happen through the DIHA, SIHL etc. Not everything, but that’s fair enough.

[/quote:1cqc575n]My response would be identical:

So instead it is left to parents of hockey players to take over the administration duties.
The sport is small enough that you can easily make very large changes to the way things are done without much hassle. if you are organised and have a coherent argument for why things should be changed then I can’t see why you would have any troubles.

[/quote:28mn61g2]AGM’s are not much use for getting stuff done. They’re just for setting annual stuff like fees, structures etc. Hard to know where you went wrong without knowing the details.
To answer your question, no, I haven’t been to an SIHL AGM. I could imagine the experience being rather painful though.
October 26, 2009 at 10:34 pm #14634imported_RyanMemberAccording to Kyle, no one has been punished for the fights that broke out last week.
Any ideas on how that works? I always thought that fighting was banned, therefore anyone who was caught doing it was automatically ejected from the league. Or have I misunderstood something in the rules?

All players were sent to a disciplinary panel hearing last night which decided to apply no further punishment. I haven’t seen the report yet from the chair so can’t comment any further. There’s no set punishment under our rules, part of the advantage of the hearing is that it avoids automatic bans on the ice.
Typically fighting would lead to a ban, but it depends on the individual circumstances of the event.
October 27, 2009 at 4:25 am #14636Rhys MMemberIm actually very dissapointe din the disciplinary committees findings, I think conisistentcy would possibly be the best way to down things as things have been done in the past…..3 game bans…. the list goes on
October 27, 2009 at 5:46 am #14637KyleMemberI’m not aware of the panel ever giving out a 3 game ban, I think one game is the longest we’ve given to date.
October 27, 2009 at 8:55 am #14638Rhys MMemberI believe if you look into the OBHS vs KHS ice hockey altercation, youll note between two and threee game bans were recdommended from the DIHA, I know cause i got 3 games,
Im appalled to see the same player who was involved in two fights in the same game, and also a eye gouging incident aswell
If it had been one of the FYC team members im sure as shown in my above example much more serious discipline would have been handed down

Basically the whole of both teams were in an all outright brawl bar a few of them (who incidentally happened to be the top players).
So not a fair comparison IMO.
Plus, wasn’t that the schools league? The schools league is administered by the Otago Secondary Schools Sports Association, not the DIHA so the disciplinary system are different.
October 27, 2009 at 11:20 am #14640KyleMemberThat was punishment dished out by the schools. Nothing to do with our disciplinary panel.
I should note, anyone who wants to appeal a decision of the disciplinary panel can do so to the board of directors.
