How many people turned up? Result? Team rosters?
Did you follow my mistake on the website and play the off-side rule or use the ‘actual’ rules of no off-side rule?
Ryan,
November 22, 2006 at 10:45 pm #1703KyleMember5 played for SK8, 4 played for the Jets. Jets took it… 7-2? We had one goalie, who played at one end so both teams had him for half the game (split 3rd period). Hinson refereed.
If we had another goalie and 3 more players so it was full lines, it would have been better, but it was still interesting – vast open spaces and the passing at times was really good (and at times really bad!).
I checked with Phil. Offside rule is definitely being played for the summer league. Got called once from memory.
We also had the slightly amusing situation of Deb Handcock being first person to an icing, but unable to touch the puck because it was a two line pass. She waited for Mallory to arrive (on the other team) and as soon as Mallory touched it, Deb started fighting for the puck.
November 28, 2006 at 1:25 am #1704KyleMemberSo the second game of this is on tomorrow. It’s definitely still open to more people, and you can either play by the night, or in blocks. It’s open to all levels.
So come along.
November 29, 2006 at 8:00 pm #1705KyleMember5-4 to Jets last night. Matthews pings one off the left upright and out in the last minute to fail to get the equalizer!
Pretty good game too. Both teams had two full lines, and were starting to find it easier to get pucks in the top pockets around the boards. Aaron on the other hand was really hard to score on last night.
November 30, 2006 at 1:37 am #1706KyleMemberAnd my right skate is permanently rooted
If anyone has a size 12 right skate hanging around looking for a foot, or $500 lying around looking to be given away…
November 30, 2006 at 2:18 am #1707imported_RyanMemberWhat’s wrong with the skate?
Ryan,
November 30, 2006 at 3:24 am #1708KyleMemberUmm, remember how in July or so my skate was busted and I was wearing one of the DIHA skates for a while. I kept on taking it in, getting the back two inside rivets on my right skate done. And then after 20 minutes of hockey they’d bust again, and I’d be back into the SK8 shop once more, and they’d rivet it again.
Anyway, eventually Nick suggested that I send the skate up to Darrin in Chch. He did a great deal for me and bunged in these ‘big boy’ rivets which held it ever since.
Well about a week ago those went. And on pulling out the liner, there’s not very much base of the skate left to rivet into. They don’t think they can do it. The rivets didn’t break, they’re just popping out.
I’ll take a look around and see if anyone else can fix them, as with Christmas coming there’s no way for me to afford new skates right now. But yeah, bum.
December 4, 2006 at 8:12 pm #1709KyleMemberPhil is organising a skills competition for senior players this Saturday, 7:30 I believe.
It’ll be speed skating, shooting, passing.
If it’s successful he’ll run it again next year.
December 6, 2006 at 11:16 pm #1710KyleMemberLast night was a bit of a hammering. No Matt Newton or Stu McLennan for SK8 this week, so we copped it pretty good. It was 5-1 or 6-1 to jets. Simon got most of their goals, though I know Zanzee got one, and I picked up SK8’s solitary goal off a rebound.
I don’t think anyone got it in the top corner last night. All the goals were scored at one end, on Aaron.
Apparently this skills thing on Saturday… figure skaters will learn hockey stuff from hockey players, and hockey players will learn figure skating from figure skaters. And there might be some food as well.
December 7, 2006 at 10:20 pm #1711KyleMemberRyan on the news you’ve got last night of the dihl for the year. There’s still two more Wednesday nights before Xmas.
December 8, 2006 at 1:04 am #1712imported_RyanMemberI was told otherwise, I’ll change it though as what I heard was only a rumour.
Ryan,
December 13, 2006 at 9:11 pm #1713KyleMemberSK8 stunningly pulled a draw out of the jaws of victory last night, going from 4-1 up with a 7:30 period to go, to 4-4 at the end of the game.
Shocking last shift which let in two goals, with Duncan and Richard Sykes sitting on the bench. Simon Christos certainly has found his range in those top corners.
On the positive side, we gave the goalie a shutout for our 22.30 minutes of game time, all goals against us went through the boards.
December 20, 2006 at 8:10 pm #1714KyleMemberlast game for the year last night, and a little short on subs (sk8 had 1, jets had two), and jets took it 6-1. Simon Christos got all the goals for the Jets, I got the solitary goal for sk8, off the upright and the goalie’s back apparently.
The summer league has been cancelled for the rest of summer, due to lack of support. So the only hockey to look forward to is the Sunday game when it restarts mid-January.
