Thunder is back from Christchurch after a couple of record losses in the league. It’s been a bit of a horror season for the Dunedin boys, and they’ll all be looking towards it being over.
Swarm can’t make the final, but after Thunder got close in one of their games in the first round, they’ll be looking to clean up down South. They’re coming off the bye so should be fresh.
August 11, 2009 at 10:28 am #13706vpatrolMemberI think one game will be close sorta with Swarm winning but I think one of the games will be a solid Swarm win. Not sure the Swarm have their hearts in it but end of the day, they are the better team.
August 11, 2009 at 10:29 am #13707Defense101MemberDon’t think there is much left in the bank after those last couple of games for Dunedin. I will be going to watch and cheer them on. I hope they prove everyone wrong and grab a couple of V’s
August 11, 2009 at 10:32 am #13708vpatrolMembercouple of v’s? Is that like a couple of very nice efforts?

[/quote:c4wmz7v3]He means the energy drink, clearly.
Thunder have struggled this season, but I have to say I kinda admire their guts. They aren’t whining about it, and they still get out on the ice every game and give it everything.
August 11, 2009 at 11:59 am #13710vpatrolMemberThat’s a good point. I would probably bitch and moan and look for sympathy. They just put their head down and go to work.

August 11, 2009 at 11:49 pm #13712Azzy77ModeratorI think you normally talk about going for the W……
Yeah I am really proud of my team, things were far from perfect, but they knuckled down and just kept playing.
They showed they are a real team by working together to deal with problems.
Being demolished on a regular basis is not fun, so the boys have grown extra arms and legs to deal with it.August 12, 2009 at 7:56 pm #13713PhilMemberI’d like to add my support of the Thunder’s efforts this season – they may have had some heartbreakers on the scoreboard but I have nothing but admiration for the way that the team has stuck together and comported themselves this season. On paper they have arguably less ‘talent’ than last season, but despite the scores they have shown way more heart than last year’s team (I’ve only seen the home games). A lot of young guys have had valuable ice time and I’m sure lots of learning for the seasons to come. To see you all out there practising night after night and still laughing together is really heartening. The only negative for me is the way a big chunk of the Dunedin ice hockey community has turned their backs on the Thunder this year. DISGRACE
Anyway a big thumbs up to the Thunder boys and the management team – the personal improvements, learning and gains that you have all made playing at this level will only help the future of ice hockey in Dunedin – all the best for the weekend’s games.
PAugust 14, 2009 at 12:38 am #13714vpatrolMemberLast season and this year, the Thunder seem to be able to push the Swarm. Let’s hope they can get up for this one. Nobody wants to see lopsided scores. Here’s hoping for a couple of close ones. As usual, Rick will need to be stellar to win. The d need to step up and help with rebounds. Forward are you listening too? ” title=”Wink” />

August 15, 2009 at 11:22 am #13716vpatrolMemberlost 9 to 1. Wasn’t a great game from thunder apparently. No details yet
August 15, 2009 at 11:41 am #13717KyleMember4 – 1 end of the 1st. 7-1 end of the 2nd. 9-1 end of the game. Jens in net for Thunder. Thunder didn’t really start to play until the third period.
Couple of weak goals from Thunder – one sat behind the goalie and the defence didn’t push it into the goalie’s pads so swarm got it. Last goal was a dump from the blue line and the defence and goalie both let it go in.
Four minors to Thunder, one to swarm. Wasn’t a very high intensity game from both sides.
August 15, 2009 at 11:48 am #13718vpatrolMemberby letting it go in, you mean neither cared to try? Or just an error?
August 15, 2009 at 11:51 am #13719KyleMemberOh, shots were 60-16.
The swarm player spun around and flung it at the net. The defender didn’t play at it, the goalie obviously thought that he would because he didn’t either.
