lets see what happens tonight, good to see a fight great for the fans good stuff
July 11, 2009 at 10:20 pm #12291cattleprodMemberwouldn’t of thought it was that tougher fix. start the game half an hour earlier. is it because the canterbury club are being cheap and there not coughing up for enough ice time. this problem only seems to happen in chch! good to see the devils smash the swarm though, there the team to beat for sure!! and missing some key players. wont be easy to get up on that defeat. thinking the devil will win comfortably tonight.
July 11, 2009 at 10:26 pm #12292imported_RyanMemberThe Alpine Ice Arena is the busiest rink in the country and it is privately owned. I’m not surprised they have more of these issues than anywhere else.
I would have thought that having a 30 min stop time third period would be more sensible than a 60 min running time. But I guess they’re trying to avoid confusing the spectators.
July 11, 2009 at 11:16 pm #12293vpatrolMemberThere was a public session before and after the game. The rink being privately owned limits us. Gate receipts go to the CIHA. Only food sales go to the rink. Therefore from a financial standpoint, it makes sense for the rink to favor public skaters who also buy food on top of an entry fee. They only made a certain amount of ice time available due to not wanting to cut into public sessions during their typical peak times.
The rink can do whatever they want. Where will the CIHA go? The other facility in chch?
July 11, 2009 at 11:27 pm #12294plod16Memberand today the Swarm have to be off the ice at 7:15 at the latest and on a plane at 8:20, not only ice time problems either!!!
July 12, 2009 at 6:50 am #12295imported_RyanMemberSwarm were up 4-2 at the end of the second period, but the Red Devils fought back to wind the game up 6-4 at the end of the third.

My question is how many sessions do the CIHA use Alpine Ice a week and at what cost?
It would be a hell of alot of money that they would loose if the CIHA wasn’t there!
It seems there has to be abit of give and take – surely for the play off between what the CIHA spend a year on ice time vs guarenteed ice time for 8 home games of the NZIHL – doesn’t seem too much to ask?July 12, 2009 at 8:28 am #12297vpatrolMemberThey make more money from public sessions than they do from ice hockey. Speed skating and figure skating take up the rest along with lessons.
July 12, 2009 at 8:47 am #12298vpatrolMemberGood game by the way. Swarm had a 1 to nil lead after the 1st. We just couldn’t get many quality shots on. Zak was playing well too which didn’t help.
Second period went to the Swarm on the scoreboard and in a few other categories as well. I let in a couple goals that I would like back. Swarm led 4 to 2 after the 2nd.
Third period was nervous (for me). We got an early one which helped and we slowly kept plugging away and the pucks starting finding the net. Swarm still challenged though. Like yesterday, both teams had to work hard to kill off the copious amounts of penalties. Didn’t see the final total but I think they were pretty close in numbers. Good game. Swarm came to play.

We’ll see what happens tomorrow but I imagine it will be much of the same thing. Looks like they beat Botany worse then Stampede did again shows the Devil’s strength.
[/quote:1vceztf3]Finally the Devils defense has been tested but by how much we won’t know until we see the stats.
As for these games showing the Devils Strength – I don’t get it What is their strength scoring the 14 goals this weekend or letting in 8?
If we are going off first encounters with the Swarm being the marker post then the Stampede scored 14 goals but only letting in 4!I mean at the end of the season it all comes down to one game (I think it needs to be 3)
and the Stampede have won every final they have played and the Devils have lost all of theirs – so in the rational above the Stampede have it covered.July 12, 2009 at 9:15 am #12300vpatrolMemberthat’s the silliest rationale I have ever heard. The Edmonton Oilers have one of the best seasons played vs Stanley Cups wins of all time. Guess that means they should win next year. Ignore the fact that the Stampede teams that won were years ago and the league has changed since then. Swarm also beat Dunedin 3 to 2 in one game. Guess Stampede should not beat Dunedin by more than 3 to 2 or something is wrong with the universe. Ignore the fact that we beat Thunder and Dunedin by larger margins than Stampede.
Your logic is useless with all due respect. Until Stampede and Devils play, everything is pure speculation. Some of the speculation will be more silly than others. In a one game final, history doesn’t really matter either.
