July 13, 2009 at 12:21 am #12321plod16Memberyeap, a 60X30 in chc and a rink like gore in rangoon and ashvegas but you should’ve won it two weeks ago!!!
July 13, 2009 at 12:27 am #12322Chin StrapMemberAucks and CHCH are not like Dunners and Qtown they are very hard to deal with might take a couple of years to beak the ice excuse the pun
July 13, 2009 at 2:26 am #12323plod16MemberThere are some pixs on NZIHF website from the CRD games over the weekend, looks like only the sat game as yet

[/quote:3d711jky]Probably not something that worries the owner of the Christchurch rink, his rink is busy through to midnight, and the ice sees a lot of use over the summer with the SNC competition.
Dunedin ice times are more flexible as things get pushed back if something runs over or starts late. Lots of rinks can’t/won’t do that. They run games on a strict and tight schedule and there’s no great benefit for their business in pushing it back 20 minutes so an ice hockey game can finish. They’ll lose income in the following event. NZIHL Rulebook allows for this where it happens.
July 13, 2009 at 5:49 am #12325Chin StrapMemberchch ice has not been out for 15 years what does that tell ya heard they might do it this summer
July 13, 2009 at 6:59 am #12326vpatrolMemberThe ice is supposed to be taken out so concrete can be put down. Should improve the quality of the ice. Shame they nixed the idea of replacing the boards at the same time. Stupid economy
July 13, 2009 at 7:10 am #12327plod16MemberI heard that due to time constraints and $$ (estimated at 80k) the concrete floor was flagged, at least the boards will be better.
July 13, 2009 at 7:44 am #12328vpatrolMemberso boards and no concrete? Thought it was the other way around.
July 13, 2009 at 8:56 am #12329plod16MemberJust love the rumours!!! Like all those rumours about new rinks, will wait for opening night.
July 13, 2009 at 9:27 am #12330ActiveMemberThe ice floor will be sand based which is nothing wrong with that because it will be based on the Dunedin rink floor design though still with the same existing compressors, As for the boards that is a wait and see as to the economics but it could be that they will be reinstated as is.
July 13, 2009 at 9:29 am #12331plod16MemberBoards are as is with new faces and kick boards.
July 13, 2009 at 9:32 am #12332imported_RyanMemberAccording to my mole in Christchurch, there is a major problem at the Alpine Ice Arena as the ice under the concrete near the toilets has lifted upwards and begun to tilt the wall. They’ve built the ice up to compensate for it and so are running it colder than normal which is causing the ice to become brittle and so it chips easier.
Their under-rink heating system is also not functioning correctly (perhaps this is causing the ice problems near the toilets?) and so they’ll need to fix that too.
As far as the upgrades go, they’re replacing the the pipes under the ice and refurbishing the boards. The whole process is likely to take 6-8 weeks. I haven’t heard anything about re-concreting it though.
July 13, 2009 at 9:34 am #12333ActiveMemberIt aint being concreted
July 13, 2009 at 9:51 am #12334imported_RyanMemberI guess if they’re not intending to remove the ice regularly then it shouldn’t matter too much if it’s concrete or not.
