Evertone thought it was an auto suspension so did I whats going on ae, i bet if it was stampede or thunder they there would be a shit fight about it
July 14, 2009 at 2:16 am #12351Azzy77ModeratorYeah I personally think five for fighting and that is the end of it like nhl styles is the way to go. Lets be honest some of the biggest cheers you hear in a hockey ground are for the fighting.
But if the rules state automatic suspension then a automatic suspension should be handed out. If none is handed out then there can be no automatic suspensions for any more fights this season. Because the precedent has been set.
July 14, 2009 at 3:08 am #12352vpatrolMemberneilson is a canadian guy so he knew how to fight apparently. A lawyer too. Who knew
As far as the suspension goes, I think the refs need to make a referral on the game sheet whether its worthy of a suspension. Or so I’ve heard. In this case, it was two guys roughly even in height going at it and nobody was hurt. No need for suspension so they both played sunday. Neilson was in his civies during handshake on sunday so not sure if he got hurt or not. Wasn’t from the fight though
July 14, 2009 at 3:40 am #12353Chin StrapMemberno its not an instant suspension for fighting just just like its not an instant suspension for checking from behind.
Its upto the ref in hand to asses the situation at the time of the incident and how its written down on the score sheet.
If a 5 and a game was issused then yes probley should have sat a game or a major issued in the last 5 minutes then yes again. but its upto the leauge and/or opposing team to call a disinplinary hearing within a certain amount of time
July 14, 2009 at 4:19 am #12354imported_RyanMemberAs far as I’m aware if you fight, it’s automatic disqualification from a league. Hopefully they aren’t allowed to play for the rest of the season.
July 14, 2009 at 4:25 am #12355Azzy77ModeratorI wasn’t suggesting there was a need for a suspension. I just thought the league had automatic standdown for a fighting/roughing/fisticuffs penalty.
Thats what we got told.
Personally I am a fan of the fights, but if it is a rule its a rule.
July 14, 2009 at 4:30 am #12356KyleMemberFrom the NZIHL rules:
A hearing of the Disciplinary Committee shall be conducted where;
(a) A Game Misconduct or Match Penalty is called by a Game Referee based on offences described in the current IIHF Official Rule Book that incur an automatic suspension and for the avoidance of doubt shall include any offence in which Match Penalties are called by a Game Referee.
(b) A complaint is received by the General Manager of the NZIHL, provided such a complaint is received within 7 days of the alleged incident.July 14, 2009 at 5:06 am #12357ActiveMemberThe swarm guy fought like a typical Canadian hockey player. First you incapacitate your opponent by pulling their jersey over their head then whilst holding the opponents jersey in place with one hand start hitting them while they cant see with the other
July 14, 2009 at 6:24 am #12358Defense101MemberThanks for the play by play on the fight. Pretty much exactly as it showed in the Youtube movie that was posted ” title=”Tongue” />
July 14, 2009 at 9:38 am #12359nziceMemberBoth players were assessed a game misconduct. So a “see you tomorrow” penalty. NZIHF rules do state Game Misconduct penalties in last 10 mins incur an additional game suspension – not sure why this was not enforced. As it was both same teams playing next night and there was no advantage either way, I assume this was why it wasnt enforced – but dont know
IIHF rules relevant to fisticuffs are

July 14, 2009 at 10:14 am #12361vpatrolMemberI think it was a good call. Both guys were willing participants. Neither got hurt. They served their time (Jacques had an additional 2 for cross checking). They played the next game and there were no problems.
July 14, 2009 at 10:24 am #12362TomMemberFighting should really be allowed in the league
July 14, 2009 at 11:24 am #12363KyleMemberWe, like most of the rest of the world of ice hockey, play under the IIHF rules. It would be pretty bizarre to change the rules for one small league when every other time those players step on the ice they’ll be subject to the IIHF rules.

[/quote:2z0jkxx2]By the sounds of it fighting is allowed in the league. From what was posted above they weren’t punished for it at all so I guess you can go clobber each other if you want.
