Think you would find the home team rents the ice from the rink and keeps the gate.
Makes sense to have a formatted schedule or plan to setting the games, but I agree that it would be sense to have all teams play one complete round before the bye weekend, then play the second round.
Rich teams will only be rich with good gate attendences.
July 12, 2009 at 11:17 pm #12528Azzy77ModeratorI think you misunderstood Plod16 i meant the “rich” as in winning team getting to pick schedule means the will keep winning (getting richer) and the “poor” losing teams will keep losing (getting poorer)
But yeah I would like to see exactly that.
Complete first round – Bye – Complete second roundYeah Vpatrol I meant to say each team pays set fee to League then splits 50/50 my bad.
July 12, 2009 at 11:23 pm #12529thirteenMemberwe dont really worry where our ticket money goes to as at the end of the day, the rink, the club, it all benefits us eventually anyhow.
What azzy said, yea i think each team should put in a list of weekends they want home games and weekends they dont, and resons why, the draw shopuld then be modeled around that with each team getting a bye before the league bye. it would make far more sense and would make for a better draw
July 12, 2009 at 11:30 pm #12530Azzy77ModeratorI think in terms of weekends you don’t or do. Instead of that each club/team should provide list to league of events or things in the region which could affect crowds adversely or beneficially and the league should take that into account.
But first priority is to have two full rounds with bye round in between.
July 12, 2009 at 11:41 pm #12531plod16MemberIt sounds like that the new season’s schedule should be based on the seeded order from last season, and if the home team has a clash or wants to change that weekend, they can only change/swap with the travelling team, (swap 1st round for the 2nd round matches).
The season roster should be kept as simple as possible not only for the players but for the large number of volunteers who run the games behind the scenes.
July 12, 2009 at 11:52 pm #12532Azzy77ModeratorYeah Simple is good Plod16.
Like for example something like this1st plays 5th
2nd plays 4th
3rd bye1st plays 4th
2nd plays 3rd
5th bye2nd plays 5th
3rd plays 4th
1st bye1st plays 3rd
4th plays 5th
2nd bye1st plays 2nd
3rd plays 5th
4th byeRinse lather than repeat. or alternatively play second round in reverse order………
Good call on the ability to switch what is the home round depending on the local festivals holidays etc
July 13, 2009 at 12:04 am #12533Azzy77ModeratorI just made those things up in 2 mins so there maybe some glaring error, but I tried to make it so last years champion gets soft introduction break in middle and faces theoretically toughest opponents nearer end.
With the 2nd place team from last year getting similar easy introductionThe alternate way to look at it, would be to start of with last years final as other leagues do, I just merely offered one suggestion
July 13, 2009 at 12:24 am #12534plod16Memberthe IIHF have a whole lot of scheduling possibilities under international rules and regulations. the IIHF tournys usually start with top v bottom seeds and work to 1 v 2 at the end. It takes the cricket scores out of the equation and prevents teams having to run up the scores.

July 13, 2009 at 12:38 am #12536Azzy77ModeratorYeah I always got the feeling too Chinstrap….
Hence my proposal for the Azzy77 wonderdraw…..patent pendingJuly 13, 2009 at 3:16 am #12537imported_RyanMember"vpatrol":1d4binii wrote:In the case of Thunder, the DIHA gets all the gate receipts just like CIHA here.[/quote:1d4binii]Are you sure about that? The DIHA are not connected with the Thunder so it seems unlikely they would keep any gate receipts.

The Queenstown Club are a similar position, they pay for the games ie. advertising, tent hire/garage hire (changing rooms) etc. If there was any profit on the door it would go to the club not the Stampede. At this stage the club pay the $16,000 a year for the scaffolding (seating) to go in, hence why we charge $20 instead of $15, and still no profit made. The club see this as being a major fundraiser in the future – anyone want to build us a new rink with seating??!!

[/quote:smtbv253]I don’t think it’s as obvious this year. I’m pretty sure previously it’s been set up so it’s a North v South final. I better go hide now I said that out loud!

In case of any shortfalls, they are the one who have to front up the difference to the league. Don’t think the rink gets anything unless you have a special arrangement. If I recall, didn’t Neil buy a whole bunch of tickets last year as support?
[/quote:lk7752wt]DIHA recieves no gate takings, nor do we pay anything for Thunder – financially they’re completely separate. Thunder is a SIHL team, but it seems to operate relatively independently from SIHL as well. It’s different from the setup that the other teams have with their clubs. Auckland and Christchurch are more logically teams of their clubs.
