Sorry been busy with moving and what not to comment. So I hear the boys finally got a win. Good on them!!!… I see guest has made a triumphant return.
I was wondering why the coach didn’t pull the goaltender in the last minute. Great chance with 1 minute to go and a face off down in the Admirals end after an icing. Good third period as well. Nice to see a win on the weekend!

The Auckland player got checked into the boards, which there was nothing wong with. He yelled at the ref that he’d been checked from behind. The ref didnt agree and tried to skate past him to head for the end zone.
The player then pushed the ref with hands, which, under rule 550, is a match penalty.haha na reffing was actually good this weekend. a couple of minor mishaps but nothing really ot of control. the player in question apologised for his actions so its all better now.
Yeah man, massive respect to that ref (young guy, forgot his name?), I was just saying how well he reffed the game the other night. Best ref out there in my opinion, he really let the game flow nicely. Didnt let the game get out of control, he let the players play, seems to really understand the game from both a players and refs point of view.. great stuff.
Ryan Cairns. Has refereed and/or lined at a couple of world champs in the past few years, including the recent senior world champs.
just lined at worlds and only last year refed one NZIHL games this year he has done a couple but is coming along
Yea i was impressed with Ryan in the weekend, he even admits when he made a bad call. He had a good control over the game. He should ref more, he doesn’t call penalties that he calls “interference”, just because he doesnt know what to call. Some reffs are like: “Wow that was a big hit, must be interference! IT may have been checking to the head, but il call interference because surely they will know what they did wrong”. Reffs, thats not how you should ref!
Once while reffing a mixed game Chris pushed a midget out of the way going for the puck and I gave him 2 minutes citing the ” big man on little man” penalty call. The scorers looked confused,… in fact so did Chris. But as long as you look confident when calling it its OK.

I ignored a blatant check from a midget player on Jon Kitchen. My reason for not putting the midget in the bin despite it being a non-checking game was due to the “if you actually knocked him over, he’d fall on top of you and squash you like a bug” rule.

its not called enough….
a long with the much maligned “I am a slow skater, and that guy fell over therefore you must have done something wrong” penalty
