Do other teams get larger crowds?

July 29, 2009 at 6:27 am #13292Jofa playaMemberyea good to see a good crowd up there, what do u mean 40 paid? how else do they get in
July 29, 2009 at 6:31 am #13293imported_RyanMemberQueenstown and Christchurch have tiny rinks, they can’t fit many people around them anyway.
Are you sure that the Thunder don’t have bigger crowds than both of them?
I always assumed they did, but I’m not sure.
July 29, 2009 at 6:34 am #13294Jofa playaMemberi think stampede crowds would be 200-250 od, when i have been to thunder games they’d be lucky to scrape 100, the dunedin stadium would be mean with heaps of people

[/quote:1dehicx6]joke about family getting free tickets as well as other people. probably more than 40 but joke is dead now anyways.
July 29, 2009 at 6:37 am #13296Jofa playaMemberoh right ha a bit slow on that i was, stampede gets lots of tourists which is good because they pay and buy booze which is something like 5bucks a can ” title=”Sad” />
July 29, 2009 at 7:18 am #13297Rhys MMemberWell maybe we could do some extreme skating it would all depend on the amount of peopel coming to make it worth it or not with all our special effects, perhaps we could get my cousin, jonathon pryor form the rock invovled as back in his prime he jumped 13 people on rollerblades, and also the fact he has nothing to do for the next two weeks or so as his broadcasting licence is revoked!
July 29, 2009 at 8:11 am #13298cowgirlMemberThe smallest crowds we get in Queenstown are 250.
We do a lot of advertising and marketing though. We have The Rock as a major sponsor so we have radio advertising over 6 stations.
We also print about 100 posters for each round. Do flyer drops. Newspaper advertising over and above the one ad NZIHL pay for.
Our booking system also has it’s own marketing section for all the hotels in Queenstown. It sends them all a message a couple of days before the event giving details. Their guests can book their tickets directly from the hotel’s reception.
We have to make up for the $16k for the seating we have to pay for so it’s worthwhile getting bums on seats so the club doesn’t lose lots of money!
I also do email marketing to all people who have previously bought tickets (the booking system keeps a database), members, previous members and my work contacts.July 29, 2009 at 8:42 am #13299Jofa playaMemberDoes the dunedin team/rink do much promoting mabe if they started winning games and promoting there team and sport they’d get crowds
July 29, 2009 at 10:11 am #13300imported_RyanMemberThe Dunedin team does fairly minimal advertising. It’s pretty easy to not know an event is happening … even when you are a member of the local hockey club. They just don’t seem to have enough volunteers to do that sort of thing and the rink isn’t very good at the promotional side of things.
Having said that, I’m pretty sure most games get at least 250 people, probably more. Anyone know accurate numbers for that?
July 29, 2009 at 11:27 am #13301ActiveMemberwe would have pulled 1300 – 1500 for the last ice black game in the div 3 champs in Dunners
July 29, 2009 at 11:52 am #13302KyleMemberThere were about 600 for the first Thunder game. They’ve tended to all be less than 300 since, on a bad night it doesn’t get much over 100.
