Hmm, thought it was a little higher than that.
July 29, 2009 at 8:10 pm #13304KyleMemberThe rink doesn’t count them that I know of, it only does a till total, which doesn’t count people.
And doesn’t include the comps. But the game last year where we were opposite the ABs game in Dunedin there would have been less than 75 people there.
July 30, 2009 at 1:02 am #13305vpatrolMembernot a good sign when the thunder have to pay a minimum amount to the league per home round. Sounds like its out of pocket in some cases.
July 30, 2009 at 1:50 am #13306thirteenMemberwe had a raw deeal this year with the draw being at bad times to draw a decent crowd. uni exams then holidays, these are the people who come watch the games. it will be interesting to see how many people come to watch this weekend, there has been a bit of promotion and about 400 flyers hung up about town. plus my grandads coming so thats exciting
July 30, 2009 at 1:54 am #13307Azzy77ModeratorWe told Blakes Grandad the ticket price was $10 000, so it will make up for 1000 people.
Yeah we had a tough draw, but the promotion could have been done better.
This weekend will be some sort of indictor of how not being in a uni break will effect the crowd. Otherwise we have to sit down and think how best to get people in the groundJuly 30, 2009 at 1:59 am #13308vpatrolMember"Azzy77":3k4yeamw wrote:We told Blakes Grandad the ticket price was $10 000, so it will make up for 1000 people.Yeah we had a tough draw, but the promotion could have been done better.

[/quote:3k4yeamw]Idea: Dunedin Thunder vs All Blacks. Indoor rugby match at Dunedin Ice Stadium. Event will sell out so be quick. No refunds.

[/quote:uqgm71ye]Telling them to come to the rink rather than ‘the ground’ might work ” title=”Smiley” />
July 30, 2009 at 2:44 am #13310Azzy77ModeratorOkay kyle suppose we change it to the “rink”
Then how do you propose to fill the “rink” by which i mean the seating not the actual ice surface?
July 30, 2009 at 3:09 am #13311KyleMemberI don’t! Pay me to market NZIHL games and I’ll share ” title=”Smiley” />
July 30, 2009 at 3:18 am #13312imported_RyanMemberProviding some way to advertise it would be helpful, and informing those who are likely to advertise it for you that the games are on, ie: send some sort of notice to me or anyone else who can update the DIHA site. There’s often no notice about the game coming up until the day before because I don’t realise the game is on until then. Plus I can’t be bothered writing anything up for it, so if something was sent through that would make it much more likely that something would be posted. In particular sending through the poster would be smart, that way it can be attached to the news item for others to print off and stick in their office building, school etc. for others to see.
Updating the Thunder website with news about upcoming games would be helpful too. An update in my feed reader five days before the game would give me enough time to plan to go on the weekend, but if I don’t realise it’s on until the day before, I’m far more likely to not bother.
July 30, 2009 at 4:35 am #13313cowgirlMemberA couple of us in Queenstown worked really hard on marketing for the league. We sent out over 100 sponsorship proposals, got The Rock on board nationally, did all the posters, flyers, newspaper ads nationally, built a website, sent out press releases weekly to the media (not just the club members!!! LOL). But we found at the end of the year we got nothing back but criticism from everybody north of Dunedin. It’s really hard to get everybody to have a positive attitude and I mean the people involved. Everyone has an ‘if’ or a ‘but’, how ’bout just doing it! It’s a cool sport and sure it’s friggin expensive but hey, it’s always gonna be if we don’t do anything about it!
How bout emailling all the schools in Dunedin, I did it for The Worlds and got a really good response. 5 or 6 emailled me back saying thanks for letting us know, we never hear about ice hockey!

Aaron was writing up articles for the ODT I think. Not sure if he is still doing that or not.
July 30, 2009 at 11:19 pm #13315Azzy77ModeratorYeah we were writing up things for ODT, and still do when we are away, they have reporters at the Thunder and Stampede home games therefore I don;t do as much then. They still ring or talk to me sometimes to get clarifiction on things.
Emailing schools is a good idea, and especially easy to do in Dunedin since we have high school league so have email addresses for all schools, I presumed this was being done but perhaps I shouldn’t assume so much…..
The posters were put up a week ago. The schedule was released in April so people in hockey circles should know when games are, we also gave the schedule to ODT and Channel 9. I assume Ryan had access to that.
We have no one involved at the moment you is very good with the internet, so if some one wants to pick up that ball we would be more than happy to hear from them.
I hear you Cowgirl on you trying to do things and people are like look they are being proactive stop it.,…
But yeah keep firing in suggestions I promise they will all be taken on board. I also promise we haven’t been sitting on our thumbs doing nothing, we just are reaching deadends.
July 31, 2009 at 2:41 am #13316cowgirlMemberYeah, it’s not hard to spread the word.
I forgot to put ‘last year’ on my last post! This year we’ve ditched the rest of the country and are focusing on Stampede home games solely which are rockin!August 1, 2009 at 9:26 am #13317ActiveMember5 -2 to stampede. I thought thunder looked an improved team
