Great to see Tom Wilson get a goal. Was that his first in the NZIHL?

Game wasn’t as lop-sided as many expected. The Thunder held out the Stampede pretty well. Thunder shot a few too many goals straight at the goalies chest rather than deking like the Stampede players.

Score was 1-2 after the first period and 4-2 (I think, or was it 5-2?) after the second period, then 5-2 at the end.

Good game overall and nice to see the Thunders younger players getting plenty of ice time and making good use of it while they were at it.

Good game, Thunder played well. Sweet to see Tom score a nice goal. If Thunder can get it just up one more notch, tomorrow could be a hum dinger.

Horrendous crowd numbers. C’mon, everyone bring a friend along at 4pm tomorrow, I think Stampede supporters outnumbered Thunder supporters.

Yep, crowd was pitiful. I think the number of Stampede and Thunder supporters was about equal.

The Thunder definitely need to promote their games better. I didn’t even realise it was on tonight until Jack sent me an MSN message wanting to know what time it was on so I looked up on NZIHL.com.

Just quietly, Toms key to success is a 1 dollar McDonalds frozen coke before each game…

Na seriously though such a great moment for him, think that makes him the youngest ever Thunder player to score a goal.. if you want to get technical. No wonder he has so many fans on this forum…

You were looking in fine form tonight too Stefan!

You don’t need to be so quick to pass <img decoding=” title=”Tongue” /> I recall seeing you plowing towards the net at full steam and looking for a pass, you were probably better off charging the net and shooting yourself as your team mates were too far out of position.

Simon was playing quite well too. He was a doing a great job of breaking through the Stampede defense and crashing in on their net at full speed. He would have sunk a few in if he had managed to deke the goalie, but his shots were directly at the goalie unfortunately. He has a really good snapshot, but he wasn’t getting the goalie out of position enough to create a hole big enough to shoot into.

BTW, who is number 7 on the Thunder? Seemed to be quite quick, but I couldn’t recognise who it was.

Clay Caird. Played for the team last season but got injured and didn’t get to play much of the season.

Good work Tom. I hope you are skating with your head up my friend!!!

Thunder definitely had their moments tonight, but Stampede physically dominated them. I’m not sure if it’s ’cause Jens is all european and whatnot, but the Thunder just will not hit. Time and time again I saw thunder players back away from a perfectly legitimate hit, while the stampede went for every hit they could scrounge – legal or otherwise.

I have to say, I think Stampede’s bad reputation as a dirty team is justified. It’s not so much that there were massive calls that the ref missed, more that the Stampede are just constantly hooking, slashing, holding, whatever they can do and get away with.

I’m not complaining because of the scoreline – the Stampede deserved that win, they were the better team, and some of their goals were textbook perfect.

Big props to Parry for saving the Thunder time and time again – that guy is good.

yes chris your right, it’s this european coach with his style, he wants all his players to turn in to kiddys. thunder need a proper canadian coach who will train a team that isnt afraid of getting pushed around a bit and giving back better than they get. we cant have a whole team of people like stefan who are good looking but dont want to hurt anyone cause they dont want to mess up there pretty good looks, haha that guy is so pretty but no really i love him.

Cant you read stats – Until last weekend the Stampede was the least penalised team in the league!!!!
Hooking, slashing, holding if we take this out then we have Ice Skating, which if you didn’t know is a different game!

Maybe you should start watching figure skating or synchronised swimming if you don’t want to see any contact.

It is a contact sport, bitch about teams being dirty if you win, until then shut up.

I thought that as well. There were several times where I wondered why the player didn’t finish the check. Noticeable that Stampede took those opportunities to do so.
