Personal experience playing against the queenstown boys I agree with all the comments. Probably far outplayed the Thunder and there is a southern rivalry there. The teams love to play one another (or at least I did). On the ice though both teams chirp back and forth to get under eachothers skin. Only difference is that is where the rivalry ends with Dunedin. They aren’t physical and don’t do the little chips and hooks like queenstown does. In one persons eyes that can be looked upon as dirty play. For two rivalry teams I think that is just common action between two rival teams. Glad to hear they had some good moments. Better then the last two games for sure. Any coaches walk of the bench this time?

August 2, 2009 at 9:16 pm #13350ChrisMemberOne thing I forgot to mention is how impressed I was by Tom Wilson’s performance. He seems to be getting plenty of ice time, and the experience he’s getting by going up against strong teams like the Stampede is going to really show itself in the years ahead.
By the time he’s 20, he’ll have nearly 5 years of NZIHL experience behind him, and will be a superstar I reckon ” title=”Smiley” />
August 2, 2009 at 9:28 pm #13351ActiveMemberI didnt see to much going on there that doesnt normally go on. Thunder were outplayed by a better skilled team though there juniors were comparable to ours I thought. The score was pretty much as most people thought it would go though I thought Stefan might have been on P cause he was as aggro as I have ever seen
Chris I dont think a cage fight between you and a 7 year old would get universal approval somehow but im sure if you set it up there would be a minority segment keen to watchAugust 2, 2009 at 9:29 pm #13352ChrisMember"Active":3p9fnah3 wrote:Chris I dont think a cage fight between you and a 7 year old would get universal approval somehow but im sure if you set it up there would be a minority segment keen to watch

August 2, 2009 at 10:55 pm #13353Azzy77ModeratorHaving been on the ice (abliet only for a period) I would like to say I didn’t see anything untoward from the Stampede. The game was a good physical match up like it should be. But there was nothing dirty, and I don’t know who starts these rumours about Stampede being a dirty team, they are not they play aggresively and to win which is why playing them is fun.
Also I would like to point out the Thunder out hit the stampede on Saturday night when the scoreline was closer. So Thunder can hit, hitting and then getting possesion of the puck is something that we have to work on.
We were outplayed, but both games even the 12-4 game were enjoyable to play in (open the gate for).
Thank you everyone for turning up, queenstown supporters included.
Ryan you realise the NZIHL website has been up for 5 months now with the same schedule, the games were advertised on the radio, posters around uni and town, and article in fridays ODT, and two full page ads in the critic, so sorry we missed you.August 2, 2009 at 11:30 pm #13354Azzy77ModeratorOh and just out of curiousity where are all the tom wilson lovers now?
That goal was amazing, and it was captured on film, we are currently waiting for tom to edit it for youtube.Tom is talking about giving a full directors commentry.
Right now I am crossing the red line, I know that I should Dump, but I see Bert hesitate and go to his right I now realise what I must do toe drag to the left to put him on his ass.
Right now I look to the corner to make sure my mum is getting this on film. Now I see she is I turn back to achieve my goal.
One more defender, what to do I sense the aggression in his eyes if I hang back and let him make the first move I can beat him with ease.
Ahh now the home stretch I notice Steveo is not using his normal brand of stick and I know that this brand is lighter so there is a 90% chance he will lift it too high so I will go for the five hole.
Rigggggggggght now I realise I have scored a goal. If we run that clip again in super slow-mo we can see the smile cracking onto my face. Great Success.Seriously Tom that was one of the goals of the Season. We love you.

If I can be bothered I might do a video of your next game if you are happy to edit for me. Fingers crossed you score a goal then too!
August 3, 2009 at 4:24 am #13359TomMemberI wasn’t planing on editing it or putting it on youtube thats just aaron lying ryan.
August 3, 2009 at 10:54 pm #13360thirteenMembertom, you should have put it on youtube, it was probably the prettiest goal i have seen this year, outside of jordanes wonder goals at practice.
On the topic of Stampede being dirty, na i don’t think so, there were maybe a couple of iffy hits here and there but i bet we probably did the same. I know for a fact i had my stick around someones neck, either braden or brett speirs. sorry about that. oh and what was with me getting pummeled when i was down on my knees? it may have felt like a lot more than actually happend but i was a bit confused as to what was happening.
on another note, stefan! you finally made a big hit! on moorecarter, killed him!
and again thanks to the supporters who bucked the trend and came to watch, especially my grandad, though i think that because hes old he ouldnt actually see the game so he toughed it out and pretended to care for 2 hours, good manAugust 3, 2009 at 11:36 pm #13361KyleMember"thirteen":21so4rm9 wrote:oh and what was with me getting pummeled when i was down on my knees? it may have felt like a lot more than actually happend but i was a bit confused as to what was happening.
[/quote:21so4rm9]You had this big grin on your face when you came back to the bench. I think it was half “why was that guy pushing on the back of my head?”, and half “whee! I drew a penalty”.
August 4, 2009 at 12:50 am #13362thirteenMemberNa i was laughing because they went to the effort to do it in the first place, i didnt really care, i do try to antagonise people but thats a different story. who was it anyway? i didnt see
