What is everyone’s expectations for the next four Thunder games?? Both teams are struggling.
July 1, 2009 at 12:59 am #11929ChrisMemberThe first game, I’m going to pick the Admirals taking the Thunder 4-3, but then for a Thunder comeback, winning 6-2 in the second game, 7-0 in the third and 5-0 in the fourth.
How’s that for specifics? ” title=”Cheesy” />
July 1, 2009 at 1:43 am #11930Defense101MemberI think that the Thunder have the potential to take all 4 games. Parry has been standing on his head and I don’t think his stats reflect how well he’s been playing. Bryant has been amazing when he’s been in the pipes as well. The Thunders first line has a lot of potential if they can all play at the same time. The second line was really impressive against the Stampede last weekend even though the scores weren’t great. Biggest thing is if the team can keep their heads up with their assistant coaches emotional out bursts. I know that has been a huge stressor for the team. I predict that the thunder will win 3 games to 1 as well.
July 1, 2009 at 2:03 am #11931plod16MemberAnyone going to start a poll?? Parry has been standing on his head but needs the d to cut down the number of shots on him, or make it more difficult to walk in and take a good shot from the slot.
A reduction in penaltys will also help, and by that, I mean the ‘stupid’ ones! An example I saw in Queenstown over the weekend was a Thunder player dislodge the net on a delayed penalty call and they immediately go from 4-5 situation to 3-5 one. As I said just an example.
There were also positives there, holding the Stampede to only 1 in the second period shows that they are capable of playing periods without conceding goals. Think from memory it may have been conceded while they were on a power play, ” title=”Sad” />
It will be an interesting series.
July 1, 2009 at 2:10 am #11932vpatrolMemberAdmirals aren’t chumps. Although the scoreboard says otherwise, they pressured us more than Thunder. I’m going to say 1 win out of 4 for Thunder. I’ll be pleased to be proven wrong. A split would be a pretty decent result I think.

July 1, 2009 at 2:12 am #11934Azzy77ModeratorYeah Thunder took a lot of stupid penalties in the weekend.
However they were a wee bit disturbed when they had a goal disallowed because a Stampede player moved the net, and no penalty was forthcoming.
Thunder acknowledge most of the calls they got against them were valid, with the possible exception of Braden falling over and Weir taking a tripping call. I think they were concerned more with the Stampede getting away with similar things and not taking penalties. (this maybe just a biased perception though)

Was that the general impression of those who saw the game, or just those on the thunder side?
July 1, 2009 at 2:20 am #11936Azzy77ModeratorThats a valid question Chris and I would like to know?
I have to stick my hand up and say perhaps I am not as unbiased as I would like to think I am…..

[/quote:3pq76h0w]I wasn’t trying to imply bias so much as I was wondering whether it was blatant enough for even Stampede supporters to have noticed it.
July 1, 2009 at 2:55 am #11938plod16MemberThink that the other team had a goal waved away in similar circumstances, gaolies have been known to dislodge goals discretely! The only penalty that was called for dislodging a net was called because it was a blatant attempt by a Thunder player to stop play with the Stampede in a scoring position.

You call how you see the game really depending on which side your on even if you are not looking through the rose tinted glass. In any game a ref is going to make a bad call, a good call and and miss a few which generally you watch and remember the missed calls predominantly on your own team, im sure if you posed that question to a stampede player i sure he could rattle of a few missed on the thunder.
i like the reffing this year so far it has allowed to more flow into the game, however i think some of the players attitudes have also changed which allows the refs to let the game flow. In my view if a ref has to think about it then its probley not a penalty
July 1, 2009 at 4:24 am #11940Chin StrapMemberAdmirals goalie also has been standing on his head, Mike has alot of experiance which cant be discounted, both teams have equal goalies it will depend very much on which team can structure there defense first which will allow the transition to offense more quickly and take some pressure of the goalies.
July 2, 2009 at 11:29 pm #11941Azzy77ModeratorValid Chinstrap.
Hence I am tried to make everyone know that post was my interpretation of the game.
I understand that I fail to take off my rose tinted glasses a lot of the time, so I thought if I could lend them to others they could see what I see.
But yeah i understand its a though job refereering especially in a dark cave like the queenstown ice arena.
Yeah for all you guys in the red devils, I am sure Mrplod16 can back me up in saying despite the scoreline being similar the performance of the thunder last saturday was a marked improvement on the opening home weekend.
I am looking forward to the weekend.
It is a shame we have to play admirals back to back weekendsJuly 2, 2009 at 11:33 pm #11942vpatrolMemberputting the puck in the net is paramount too. Don’t want to see admirals getting 10 save shutouts. Proof will be in the pudding.
