anyway, as we can spend hours debating our opinions on people getting hurt, how did we all view the refereeing?
June 23, 2009 at 6:50 am #11645nziceMemberShame those DNT shirts are so colourless… the yellows, reds, blues make a great contrast and help bring out the faces… grey, dark green… oh well..
June 23, 2009 at 11:15 pm #11646Azzy77ModeratorYeah the thing is, being a late comer to the competition Thunder, had very limited choice over which colors they used.
But yeah fair call on the dullness.
June 24, 2009 at 1:16 am #11647ActiveMemberWhilst we are on the subject of jerseys, big ups to our new sponsor (ahb I think). Luke is an ex Dunedin player and only 23 years old. The last time he was here he was helping build the curling rink. Now he has a property financing company in Australia with branches in Melbourne and Sydney and wants to open branches in Chch and Brisbane . I hope he keeps doing well and wants to keep sponsoring
June 24, 2009 at 1:20 am #11648Azzy77ModeratorGood call active.
Also people should note most sporting teams in New Zealand and Australia have a small logo on the chest. And the rest of the Jersey is either blank or covered in sponsers.
See the NRL, NPC, Super 14 etc…
In fact this is the same around the world English premier league soccer etc…. the only place where an enormous team logo is found in in American Sports.
June 24, 2009 at 4:03 am #11649vpatrolMemberHowever the branding for a team shouldn’t be primarily sponsors logos which change from year to year. Imagine All Blacks jerseys with Harvey Norman and Air New Zealand splashed all over it. Destroys the image. NHL Hockey teams have been very good about keeping the most important logo as the team’s. The name on the front is more important than the name on the back…..and errrrr….everywhere else! North America gives the sponsors rink adverts, naming rights, program pages etc etc. They don’t make the players walking billboards. I think there is something positive in that.
June 24, 2009 at 5:36 am #11650Chin StrapMemberNot a fan of the new shirts sorry
June 24, 2009 at 10:24 am #11651Jofa playaMemberYea im gonna agree with chin strap there, 1, you cant see the last names. 2, the colours are ugly. 3, the number doesnt really stand out. the whole thing is crap pretty much and the socks are not much better. I think they are trying to hard and have over done them so keep it simple, and wheres the money coming from to get new tops and socks because i mean they got a full strip last season and have changed already, and i can imagine those tops and socks would cost a fair amount to get made and to buy.
June 24, 2009 at 10:31 am #11652imported_RyanMemberIs there any plan to change back to the old jerseys?

[/quote:1wqzcw9x]Because the advertising is a freebie, obviously, Thunder isn’t charging them for that.
June 24, 2009 at 11:35 pm #11654Jofa playaMemberHi there Kyle you have obviously missunderstood me there, i meant the price of the strip all up. Not the advertisment on them. If you are going to make a new strip atleast make it cool and appealing, because this strip is not good to look at. Why did the thunder change the jerseyts in the first place? who designed them? Whats wrong with the strip from last year?. Cheers guys
June 24, 2009 at 11:42 pm #11655Defense101MemberThe idea behind it from what I understand is to try and bring more attention to ice hockey in NZ. Sports all around the world (Rugby, Soccer, Ice hockey etc.) All have sponsors which they plaster across their Jerseys to get larger investors and sponsors involved in the sport and Thunder was lucky enough to have that this year so the Jerseys and socks are a way to represent for them. I think Azzy mentioned the other day that it’s only in North America that teams Jerseys are sponsor free and have just the team Logo on the front mainly because the sports are already established in those countries. Having sponsors and recognizing them on the jerseys is just another way to say thanks for the support and promote the sport a little more. They might not look as good as the old ones but at least the players get to keep them at the end of the season.

[/quote:c2qeobsy]No I understand you, you don’t seem to understand the point of having sponsors.
Thunder seem to have done a great job this year getting sponsors for the team – there’s about a dozen or so.
Part of the deal with the sponsors will be having them on the playing tops. Hence the need for new tops.
I’m not sure how much the sponsorship will be worth all up, but it will be worth much more than the value of the uniforms, hence their cost isn’t a prime concern. It’s a profit-making exercise.
June 25, 2009 at 1:49 am #11657Chin StrapMemberif someone was forking out money to have logos on the shirts Jofa, i would wear a pink jersey if that meant free hockey, maybe not pink though
June 25, 2009 at 2:02 am #11658Defense101MemberI think that is a misconception many people have. All the players on the team pay to play. We had trials and tryouts for the team and the people who were selected have to pay 1000$ nzd for the season. Just so people can understand our season isn’t free even with sponsors we have to pay that.
