It’s awesome to see the players are taking the thoughts of the supporters so seriously and that the boys are taking the losses as hard as we are in the stands! With this attitude we will finally start achieving our goals of getting that win we all want!!! Rip it up boys and although the competition doesnt get any easier lets take another step this weekend!
June 23, 2009 at 10:15 am #11551Jofa playaMemberYea im happy to hear that thanks Defence 101, its definatly a big thing to know that some of the players are trying and making an effort big ups, i think if u guys get it together and play like a team you might come close to scoring a point against stampede thise weekend.
June 23, 2009 at 9:33 pm #11552Chin StrapMemberi read the paper article on the thunder coach insulting every hockey player in NZ, maybe hes been coaching to much chess because chess is nothing like hockey, maybe he should start coaching hockey to the team, maybe we should vote to bring back bode we seemed to do better with her
June 23, 2009 at 9:36 pm #11553Chin StrapMemberi think those comments in the paper will come back to haunt him
June 24, 2009 at 12:52 am #11554Defense101MemberYou know I didn’t see what was said in the paper and I know that some mistakes or a different approach was taken by Jens when coaching but he has done so much for the team and to try and get more people interested in hockey this season then Al or Bode had ever done so I think he’s doing the best he can. He may not have coached at a level this high before but he’s doing the best he can so you can’t knock him for that.
June 24, 2009 at 1:03 am #11555ActiveMemberThe only comment I remember him making was in regard to the lack of heart from our team. I didnt think it was lack of heart more like a different skill level between the teams. whilst the odd thunder player could foot it with them the depth was not there
June 24, 2009 at 1:10 am #11556Azzy77Moderator1./ I am not sure anyone’s comments quoted in the newspaper should come back to haunt them. It just how the journalist spins the story. But valid they didn’t come across the most diplomatic.
2./ Bode and Al won 1 game from the whole season. Bode and Al lost 17-1 against Red Devils.
We will wait until the end of the season before we make our comparisons.3./ I think a lot of people forget Bode and Al left they were not pushed. So I don’t think a vote would bring them back. Unless it was accompanied by a sack of money
4./ Bode and Al did a lot for the team, and to try and invigorate hockey in Dunedin and we won’t forget that.
Active i think chin strap is referring to the article printed when Jens first got here. When he was quoted as saying NZers play hockey like rugby on ice. When it should be more like Chess.
June 24, 2009 at 2:07 am #11557ActiveMemberI remember that now. In that case Thunder were playing rugby against a chess playing Devils
June 24, 2009 at 3:06 am #11558Chin StrapMemberyes i was refering to the quote he talked about the ice blacks, i am not knocking him. As coaching in any code requires deication and commitment but sometimes its good to complete coaching goals that are known to yourself and once completed then tell people how you have changed things, sounds like he has been doing job though
June 24, 2009 at 4:22 am #11559vpatrolMemberAlthough Al is off my xmas list and I’m also critical of some things Bode did as a “professional” coach, I was impressed how Bode imparted a system onto a bunch of players who previously thought a system was an Xbox. When the team lost last year, it was because of a lack of fitness and simply not doing what they had learned. It wasn’t because they didn’t know how to play. Bode was good at video analysis and teaching a bunch of adults things that normally would have been taught to peewees.
Also though, Bode did not give any team wall material. When media asked how we will do, she would always see “We’ll see”! You won’t find any of her quotes in the opponents dressing rooms as motivation. She acted professionally while in the public’s eye. That included while on the bench.
Last years game was 16-4 by the way (I can’t remember a 17 to 1)and no disrespect to this years Thunder team but having played in both games, last years team was able to get more sustained pressure in the zone and were a bit more threatening when comparing game to game. Plus Toby who played the bulk of that game had a groin injury. He’ll show you the photo’s too! ” title=”Wink” /> Both teams were different though so the comparisons aren’t terribly valid.
If you are comparing one year to the next, final stats may help. Also attendance, team morale, community satisfaction, sponsor retention etc. Lots of different things. Plus how the Thunder respond next weekend says a few things.

[/quote:rf10am4l]Nope, we were a rugby team. The amount of times we left the corner with the puck means crash and bang works too. The Canadians swear by it. I would wager that the Canadian way of playing hockey is not obsolete because of the most recent worlds and olympics.
June 24, 2009 at 5:35 am #11561Chin StrapMemberdefinatly not it showed in the NHL finals too where a few canadians with the exeption of Malkin of course showed up a bunch of sweedes but even 95% of the wings goals came from crashing the net and rebounds big Franzen the best at that one so maybe bang and crash is here to stay, i like that
June 24, 2009 at 7:59 am #11562Puck LoverMemberI heard something today that I find very weird. Please tell me our coach didn’t lock the players in the room to think about the game. I find this coaching technique extremely weird, how are the boys supposed to go into any game with confidence! Whats next I have heard stories of Asian teams having to get on the bus after the game in all there gear and stay in it till they are ready to show up. It would be a long drive home from Queenstown. Very confused?????

[/quote:2zrsnvo6]Lol, where on earth did you hear that rumour from?
June 24, 2009 at 8:06 am #11564Jofa playaMemberThat is weird Puck Lover, i’ve heard the same thing but i didnt know if it was true or a bad rumour. If it is true then im not sure about this Jens guy, although I cant say i’ve met him, from whats he has said in the papers, to the coaching techniques, things I’ve heard from other people and now this locking your own team in a changing room not impressed Jens your letting the team and the supporters down. Not only have you said bad things you have also contributed in not alowing the thunder team members to meet there supporters. Not a good LOOK.
