I don’t think the rink has a decent internet connection, and if it does, there are no jacks up where we would be able to commentate from…

I think we stick with simple broadcast within the rink first….Would there be interest though?

I can pretty much call the game, might need a colour man to fill in some gaps, when I have to announce the goal scorers and penalties over the PA system… is that practical would the PA create feedback over the radio broadcast if they were too close together… is there a way to have both happening at once? ie once i get officially confirmation of goal scorer or penalty flick a switch and whatever i do on PA come on broadcast too?

Also if this went a head, it would be quite good to get people like kyle to come in for ten minutes and talk about rules, or some senior hockey members to come down and give their view on the game….

We are doing soundcheck for game announcing (PA) on thursday or friday…

    Hey Guys

How about a podcast of the games? That would be great. Man I wish I could be there fro some Photos.

If anyone has a decent camera with a heap of memory, I know Ryan would be keen to video the games and put them up on the web site, commentary or not.

His camera won’t do a full period, and then the download to the laptop takes too long for the period break.

Lol, you silly billy. If you doing it via an FM radio, then it’s just a matter of plugging an FM radio jack into a computer with a broadband internet connection. You don’t need to be anywhere near the computer!

The connection at the rink should be plenty fast enough, audio doesn’t take up much bandwidth. If you do a radio show, I can sort the live podcast of it. I’m assuming the rink won’t mind, it wouldn’t even stop them using their computer, it’s just a matter of plugging my MP3 player into their microphone jack and leaving a browser window open.

The only reason you would need to be near the computer would be if you wanted to chat with people who called in to discuss the game, but that would probably have neglible use anyway.

My camera is okay’ish for the videoing, but I need a bigger compact flash card. I’ve currently got a 2 GB which can do one period. If anyone has a decent size CF card feel free to lend it to me for the game Otherwise I’ll just upload as much between periods as possible. 2 GB is enough for a whole period (just).

If Aaron commentates (and is happy for me to put it online) I’ll definitely turn it into a podcast and get it posted ASAP after the games.

    So do we!

I’ve purchased a 4 GB card, so hopefully it’ll arrive by Saturday for the game. They’ve plummeted in price since I bought my 2 GB one, hence I didn’t have one before. That should cover me for the whole game, and if not I’ll just upload the 2 GB one mid game anyway.

Well I am keen to do it, and I don’t mind people listening, and I would appreciate feedback, negative or positive…..

My only issue is having to do game announcing as well, but I guess that would only be minor gaps in the commentary when the goals and penalty info has officially been given to me… unless someone else wants to volunteer to do that… or my helper monkey could hold the fort on the commentary well I did that…. I would need another person beside me to relay the info from walkie talkies from scorebox giving us official info…..

No offense to referees but last year me and ryan wrote down who we saw score and do the assists of the goals, and a few times it differed wildly from the referees account

I would need to be set up in one of those wee padded seat places to see the game, I tried with the intersquad game in the weekend and could see quite well from there…..

Yeah I reckon it’d be good. Me and wick have got some extra radios from my work for things like communicating between people for scores etc

When I watch rugby I tend to correct the commentators when they get names and so forth wrong. Would it help if we all just yelled at you?

And you’ll definitely need a co-commentator. You’ll sound like an idiot if you talk for a couple of hours straight, particularly since you’ll need to figure out all the names. Most TV commentary teams seem to have a play-by-play guy (“Wick to Christos, Christos around the net, avoids the hit, back to van Leeuwen on the D line, shoots, save, rebound, SCORE!”) and a bigger picture guy (“Thunder are running a great dump and chase game here, let’s watch the replay… er, just take my word for it. Putting the puck deep and making Stampede make passes out of their own end and picking them off.”).

I’d suggest either someone else does it, or you turn the commentating mic off.

No offense to commentators, but I speak for all referees when we curse you and your offspring and send you to hell. And that’s the last goalie interference call you ever draw Aaron.

A padded cell? Sure, we can arrange that…

In fact Aaron, I’ve even got a earpeice for the radio, so you dont need a a extra “helper monkey”

Well….if the people demand it I will provide the commentary…

So any volunteers to co-commentate?… I think Wick could be brought in… I liked doing the play by play so a big picture man would be what I was looking for… Easy solve then my big picture man can do intro well I am doing the team list and stuff, and whenever I need to announce goal or penalty he can take over as well.. please note these are not the only times i will let him/her talk but these times they will definately need to talk….

Um kyle I sound like an idiot even when I am not talking for hours on end…. Last weekend I got most of the names straight away, with the opposing team it might take a little more looking

I will still need a helper monkey to relay info from the box i think, because last year the score ladies cou;dn’t deal with technology… I am meeting wick tonight to talk about announcing, so I will be better informed of how much i need to do by tonight

Well if the FM signal is sent, I’ll sort the live audio feed and I’ll try to make a full length video with the commentary laid over the top.

If anyone feels like volunteering to do some video editing I’d very much appreciate it. I can’t be bothered clipping stuff together properly (as my previous videos will attest) so if anyone wants well clipped footage (highlights perhaps?) then you will need to volunteer. Otherwise my crudely knocked together clip will have to suffice.

AARON!!!!!!!! I am you’re colour man!!!!!!! Tom Larscheid in Vancouver better wach his back!!!!! We can have little banters back and forth and then I can come up with silly things like “That’s highway robbery!! Somebody call the law!!!” or my personal favorite “Bingo Bango Bongo, his name is Roberto Luongo!!!”….except for the fact that we do not have Luongo. Anywho, you get the idea. I’ll do it and it shall be brilliant. Joe, get a hold of Mr. Larscheid and tell him to give me a ring for some advice for colour man.
