[/quote:20i5cz7i]Well I’d definitely recommend stopping commentating during intermission. Ten minutes on “The history and technique of the Zamboni” might be a bit much. Besides, you’ll need a break and a drink. Just say we’ll be taking a break now and we will be back when the players are on the ice.
I would be happy (as would a couple of others I guess) to come and provide comments on the rules, if I’m not goal-judging. That’d probably be the sort of thing that you’d want to do as it happened, rather than “oh, five minutes ago….”
Steve Jackson would be worth talking to if he’s not doing anything on the bench with the team. Few decades of playing and coaching experience there, and I believe he’s done commentating before.

I’m free all night so can come on short notice. I think Rhys is going to need to find something better than a $39 transmitter though. The one I tried can’t even go through my living room wall.

Haha yeah I will talk to Steve Jackson… he commentated at one stage for channel nine in the first season of NZIHL…..
Ryan.. yeah I don’t know what Rhys is organizing… but maybe your living room is leadplated….
June 12, 2008 at 6:27 am #8771Rhys MMemberWell guys, I’ve pulled some strings and I’ve got a transmitter, its not a full grade commmercial transmitter but it should do the trick, only puts out less than a watt. Put I’ve tested it at home and it goes through two walls all the way to the bottom of my garden by the street, so it should work fine at the rink
Does anyone have a real long USB extension cable that we can use for both night, the longer the better! just so we can mount it in a high place for the best coverage!
June 12, 2008 at 6:32 am #8772Rhys MMemberOh and by the way, just to get the word out there, we’re broadcasting around 107mhz, probably most likely 107.9mhz at this stage, but I’ll put signs up advertising what the frequency is anyway

"Rhys M":2w90cpbr wrote:only puts out less than a watt. [/quote:2w90cpbr]That’s a lot more than any of the cheapo Dick Smith ones, so hopefully it’ll do the trick. We may be able to wire through some ethernet cable to run a laptop from on the balcony above the rink office if it won’t go through the walls – hopefully we won’t need to though as that would be a pain in the butt.

What I do have however, is a 3 pin power socket to USB adaptor, so you could run an extension electrical cable to wherever you needed it instead.
Where do you want to put it though? If the commentators are on the padded seats in the main grandstand, I can’t think of anywhere it could go unless you tried to string it from the ceiling.
Do you have a decent FM receiver to use? I have an old school dual tape deck 1980’s style ghetto blaster I could use, but if you have something better then I won’t bring that along.

I’ll put up a tentative news post saying that there will ‘probably’ be commentary available and it will probably be at that frequency.
PS: This is awesome! Thanks Aaron, Rhys and anyone else who may help out ” title=”Smiley” />

I don’t have any long extension usb cords. I probably have half-a-dozen short ones about 1.5 metres or so each. I think if you link them up too much they might stop working though.
June 12, 2008 at 8:36 am #8776Rhys MMemberKyle, if you could bring those, small short ones, Im gonna have transmitter running through my computer and have teh transmitter just sitting a bit higher than the padded seats, just to gove a good all round veiw.
I’ll try to catch up with you tommorow, dont worry if i dont im pretty sure I’ve got something at home anyway. I’ll just have to find it
June 12, 2008 at 8:48 am #8777Rhys MMemberBY the way, cheers for putting that up ryan. I’ll see what I can do in the way of a good reciever for you tommorow

[/quote:32pl9ec5]No problem. I just hope the signal makes it that far without breaking up. I have 60m of ethernet cabling, so I could string it along the office wall, through the cashiers area, out the door, up the wall and onto the balcony (below the scoreboard) to a computer. But that would be a giant pain in the backside, so hopefully the signal makes it through the walls.
June 12, 2008 at 9:28 am #8779Rhys MMemberIm pretty sure the signal will go that far, I had it going through two concrete walls today, not even line of site going fine today, so we should be ok
June 12, 2008 at 1:05 pm #8780KyleMemberJust a note. I spoke to Bode tonight about this. She thinks the commentary radio is exciting, all good. She doesn’t want video going up on the web until the end of the season, as the other teams will use it to prep for playing against us, and we don’t want to give the Auckland teams that advantage.

[/quote:1f40meh3]Actually, I spose I could lock it behind the forum login and block any non Dunedin people from access it. That’s pretty lame though.
