June 15, 2010 at 10:15 am #15666vpatrolMemberNot a lot of confidence in the devils out there. Once they find their feet, I think they will run a few teams over. They just better do it soon.
June 16, 2010 at 5:23 am #15667Azzy77ModeratorI think based on past results….
Stampede beat Thunder, and West Auckland beat Red Devils by small margins, then Swarm beat Stampede and Thunder split Red Devils (should have won both) would indicate that Kyles predictions are the way the weekend will go.
Although as everyone knows past results don’t always count for anything, but based on the fact that none of the games are on tv we only can base picks on results.
I think Thunder has improved dramatically between the two weekends, and the Admirals are coming off a bye, so hopefully Thunder can finally break two hoo doos
1. Win two games in a weekend
2. Win two games in a SeasonRed Devils I think while having a very individual players, didn’t look very convincing against Thunder, and the Swarm with the backing of Estonia from all accounts were quite dominant against Stampede. (Feel free to correct me Stampeders, can only go from game reports) Although the dominance appeared to only show in third Periods, so maybe they take time to warmup.
So I think Swarm taking the maximum home would be a good call….Having said that it is unusual for the away teams in both rounds to be picked as favourites, that could be a factor. Thunder is going from a big ice surface to a small one, so will be interesting to see if that has any effect.
And the effect of flying can not be discounted…..And Eaden was looking potent against Thunder, especially when he got put on same line as Harrop and Argyle, and that only occured in 2nd game this could see Red Devils home if they finish their chances.
So in summary, I don’t know whats going to happen, and that’s definately good for the league, rather than the normal two horse races that the last seasons have descended into.

June 19, 2010 at 10:27 am #15675GasmanMemberYeah,Thats the Stuff. Fantastic result for the thunder. These first three weeks are showing the league is much closer than yrs gone by. The boys are going to grow in confidence and better hockey will flow through from this. LEts see if they can pull off the double. Is the rink in Auck smaller than Dunedin Thunders home ice?
June 19, 2010 at 10:47 am #15676imported_RyanMemberAll rinks in NZ are now smaller than Dunedin’s apart from Alexandra which is about 2 cm longer I believe. The Tekapo rink used to be about 40 m longer until they upgraded it a few years ago.
