Why does this Vpatrol guy take away topics?
June 29, 2009 at 5:16 am #11870Defense101Membercontent of posts has to follow guildlines at the top. If an administrator sees the rules getting broken or rude comments made then they will moderate what is said. Saying your opinion about game play rules is fine but trying to cut players down or refs is usually frowned upon. It’s okay to have an opinion but I guess the forum is under scrutany right now and by voicing your opinion in a rude and derogatory manor it will get moved or moderated.
June 29, 2009 at 5:18 am #11871Jofa playaMemberOh thanks for clearin that up, I didnt notice i was being rude or anything i was just saying what i thought about stuff
June 29, 2009 at 5:21 am #11872Defense101Memberdon’t worry i’ve done that as well and been scolded. we just have to think about how to word stuff if we want the forum to remain open. its cool to have an opinion but as soon as we cut down people or say certain things like blake sinclair is a goon then it turns into an attack not an opinion. btw blake i think you’re a handsome man.
June 29, 2009 at 5:52 am #11873imported_RyanMemberThere have been some problems over the past few months with inappropriate posts and also some controversial posts, which although well attended by the person posting them, have been taken grossly out of context by those outside of the forum (ie: people who have read the forum but don’t post here). To avoid any problems we’ve had to clamp down on what is posted. I’m attending a meeting tonight where some further changes may be made to the way things are done. If you have any questions about what is appropriate, either PM me or any of the other moderators or post your question here. We’re not trying to stifle conversation, although sometimes that is what happens unfortunately when we have to remove posts.
June 29, 2009 at 8:56 am #11874imported_RyanMemberI attended the DIHA board meeting tonight. Issues have been raised by the Southern Ice Hockey League about the forum and the DIHA were sent a letter/email saying that they thought it was detrimental to the SIHL. I’m not going to go into the details of what the concerns were, partially because I don’t know all the details and also because it is largely irrelevant.
The DIHA had asked me to sort out a solution which would cut down on posts which could (in theory) be detrimental to the hockey organisations affiliated with this site. We implemented some new rules which you can see stickied to the general chatter forum which helped a little bit, but there are still a lot of posts in here, particularly to do with the Thunder which would likely not have met with approval by the SIHL.
There were some other steps I could have taken, such as requiring all users of the forum to confirm their identity before posting, or maybe only allowing DIHA members to post here. Beyond that we could have made the entire forum only viewable by logged in users. However I felt that those steps would lead to a dead forum, if guests can’t read it, they probably aren’t going to bother registering. Most locked off forums usually die a slow painful death.
The easiest solution to this that I could come up with was to simply move the forum to another site, entirely disconnected from any hockey organising body. Since the concerns the SIHL expressed were that they didn’t want to be affiliated with the forum, this should keep them and the DIHA happy. A motion to allow me to migrate all the users and posts to an external site owned and controlled by me was granted and so this forum will be found elsewhere by the end of the month.
In reality this should not change how the forum is used. It will be open to anyone to participate in and will operate much the same as the current forum does.
There are some major advantages to the new setup, particularly that it will no longer be dedicated to hockey in Dunedin. We rarely get out of towners posting on here and the majority of those that do are usually just trying to cause trouble and get banned promptly after (most of you probably don’t even see those posts as they’re removed lickity split).
Hopefully the reborn forum will become a hotspot for the regions to discuss both their local hockey games and the various national competitions such as the NZIHL, Nationals and so forth.
I only got back from the meeting about 30 mins ago so I haven’t got any details on the new site. Once it is up and running all of those who are registered will receive an email with a link to the new site. Your current usernames and passwords will work there too so no need to re-register.
FYI, this forum originally started out as an external site. It was not affiliated in any way to the DIHA but some time around 2006 I agreed to allow the DIHA to take control of the site (well sort of, I still controlled it but it became the official DIHA site). I migrated all of the topics and posts over at the time and so this is just a reversal of that back to the way it was.
If you have any suggestions for the new forum please post them below.

[/quote:2ze1lhss]I took it off so other moderators could look at it to deem whether it was appropriate or not based on forum rules. Bit too much slagging of individuals in it.
June 29, 2009 at 10:33 am #11876imported_RyanMemberI don’t think the topic will be returning either. It wasn’t particularly constructive and as Vince said, it was predominantly just slagging off individuals.
June 29, 2009 at 8:44 pm #11877Chin StrapMemberWe have to be carefull what is moderated as contreversal brings people to the site, two sides to any topic is the spice to reading this forum. Singling out one player many times is just slagging, but what of the coach in Queenstown with the netting stuff? i found that complelling reading and love the banter between teams which flow ver to this site, like “did you see or hear what that player did” which is the basis of starting a mean as forum debate.
Be wary of to much censorship you will have insurgant/terriost sites popping up everywhere to get the truth out, probley not we are not in Iraq but i hope you get my point
I do agree with moving the site so it is individually stand alone from any club or association so the freedom of good forum banter may prevail.
June 29, 2009 at 8:53 pm #11878imported_RyanMemberThe topic about the coach has not been removed. It was just moved to the members area and since you aren’t a member of the DIHA you can’t see it. The new site won’t have that members section, so you will then be able to see it again.

We here at Hockey HQ, have to be careful about what is broadcast from this website as it comes under DIHA banner so people less compentant than yourself think that everything said is from the DIHA.Hence the topic was moved to the DIHA members area, since we know everyone in there. YOu say that there is a lot of banter between the teams but here it feels like everyone knows who are dunedin players and know one knows who these new people are.
And to be honest I love your contributions, and wish more outsiders (i presume you are one) would join and this move to the new domain will aide that.We are considering making it compulsary for new members to let the admins and/or moderators who they are, so we know they are hereto banter and not just stir, as have had a few people over the years attempt to create trouble by pretending to be someone else.
We are also discussing having a little thing indicating which NZIHL team (or region you are from) by your name, just to aide banter.
I have consulted ryan but i am sure he would agree we would like peoples feedback on these and other forum issues.
June 30, 2009 at 12:30 am #11880imported_RyanMemberOf course, feedback is wanted. Bearing in mind that the forum will be moving to a new site within the next month.
June 30, 2009 at 5:39 am #11881ActiveMemberIts an interesting topic this whole “moderation” thing. I for one will be attending the new forum because I quite enjoy most of the banter that goes on between everyone. What is distastefull is people ripping off other people under some hidden identity. Its like writing on toilet walls. it says more about the values of author than the recipient. If you want to slag off someone be a “man” (or “women”),identify yourself, stand up for what you believe and you will learn something valuable. What all the hiding sniggering writers dont realise is the joke is you.

What cracks me up the most is when people come on here and try to defend themselves by pretending to be someone else. It doesn’t work, we figure out who you are anyway and you end up looking like a right dick.
July 1, 2009 at 4:51 am #11883Chin StrapMemberThere are benefits to being known and unknown for insistance the comments i have made on this site have been from what i have written and any pre-determined slant because my name, team, and club are withheld there is no taint from any of those things. I might be trying to veiw my point ad it is taken the wrong due to the club i may be from.
Having people known (even though some are) may take away the veiw point depending age, club, level of hockey played for example i wont write his name due to the rules but when he posts stuff about games i know his experinece is limited
Being known would help some out o the point they are trying to get across too, it is a shame about the few who ruin it for the majority although i am not a against coming out just enjoying being anoymous, if the rules change guess ill have to strap on some balls and come out of the closet
