The anonymity issue isn’t quite as important now that the site has been moved. It would be nice if you guys would let us know who you are, but at this stage there is no rule saying you need to let us know. The main problem I see, is that even if we don’t know who you are, we don’t know the names of every hockey fan anyway so it would always be possible to cirumvent the system. Or even worse, would be if someone used another players name to post because they didn’t want to use their own.
It’s a messy setup, but hopefully it will work.

Requiring you to make your identity public will pretty much be at the discretion of the administrators. For now, you can stay in the closet.

[/quote:29zv3z32]Aaron made a good point to me that anonymity is ok, but it really detracts from certain conversations. For example, we could be having a discussion about President Obama’s multi-trillion dollar deficit, and I can come along and say, “Well, actually I’m a member of Obama’s secret inner cabal, and the real story is:…”. If I posted that anonymously, it becomes a big discussion about who I am and whether or not I have any right/basis to say those things, yadda yadda yadda, whereas if my identity is confirmed as, say, Nancy Pelosi, then you guys know that what I’m saying is the real mccoy and the discussion can flow on accordingly.

July 2, 2009 at 11:43 am #11889ChrisMemberI guess we’re all more or less in agreement then.
Generally if a discussion looks as though controversial “inside” information is being disseminated, we may choose to require the poster to identify themselves.
This may not mean making their identity public, merely proving their identity to the Admin team so that we can then hop into the discussion and say, “Yeah, this guy does have an inside line on what’s happening here…”
