A couple of more things I neglected to answer
Individual fold up seating would be bolted to the existing concrete South stand.
Permanent means the seating stays after erection, Temporary means scaffolding seating  that gets dismantled after 3 weeks of use. We are required to  install a media room for the Pacific Rim Games anyway.

Gosh lots of talk I didnt know about whilst being away from a computer.
There are a number of options for seating. It has been requested we construct changing rooms under the West wall seating. This would mean designing a seating structure around the existing benches and over two changing rooms though the pictorial doesnt show it. Opposite, the East wall could be temporary seating or permanent fixed, pull-out seating over the curling rink. Our very own keith reckons he could design one but there are also systems available from overseas. This last option would mean we could perhaps host an NHL game in the future? who knows? we will have an awesome facility and the options open to us will be huge. The sport will see rapid, positive change in Dunedin. I say bring it on.

The rink will hold 3500 people. The new mezzanine will have to start construction in October. Plans are done and fundraising has just started and it looks promising. We have the full backing of  the DCC as they realise that it is a large event broadcast to millions of people overseas and the events are short track speed skating and figure skating. Curling is to be held in Naseby. Television rights money will pay for temporary seating. And no we are not allowed to play hockey during this time. Something about speed skaters colliding with hockey players not looking good. I dunno. There will be more changing rooms added under the new permanent stand and that stand is to be elevated and pushed forward right up to the glass

Dunedin Rink is going to look nothing like it does at the moment and when Ryan gets back to me I would like to post some 3D images of the proposed rink as shown to the delegates. Its the Dunedin rink all right but not as you know it.

As I said there is no hockey coming out. Just to expensive, the wrong time of year and not scheduled in. There may be a series between NZ and Oz but it will be held in Dunedin.

Yes indeed folks this is going to be as big as it gets. Neil Gamble did a presentation yesterday in Queenstown showcasing our rink to Olympic commitee officals from all round the world. We’re talking helicopters whisking them around to banquets and sites, government officols groveling, Helen Clarke sending apologies for not coming, backhanders all round, Millions of dollars in broadcasting fees  and politicising at its highest level. The reason it has taken on such importance is that it now is being touted as part of the world cup circuit ( one of 6 venues world wide). What this means is our little rink will look completely different come next August as it is beamed to millions of viewers worldwide if all goes according to plan. Unfortunately no ice hockey. There is talk of a Australia NZ test series at the end of it though which would be tasty.
