Definately up to coach (maybe under advisement of senior players) to make the call whether a player should come up and train in the higher grade.
Its such a small community if a kid is really impressive word will get around the coach can quietly observe his lower practise and if he thinks he is up to it, he can give him the call up.
If Akhmed gets put in the Southern team because he has really good chemistry with Chad, or for a particular skill that is not lacking (or worse over-abundant) in the Senior team there is no point bringing him up.
Because he made the Southern team would mean the coach looks at him, but I don’t think it should mean automatic callup.
Also all the younger players training with Stampede were members of Stampede weren’t they.
Hockey Trainings aren’t just about skill development either, they are about creating team chemistry, so if you bring some one through that is not ready they can disrupt the flow of practise. Also if it means odd numbers could mean cycling lines, meaning actual members of team aren’t getting opportunity to train together.

They do get two trainings as well. And each player had to pay $200 so its not like the league would be paying for it.
Also I may be wrong about my nz hockey history and Mike may have started in south if so feel free to correct me.
Mike Parsons being picked for allstar game for South Team, is just a snub, to the remaining four South Goalies. Which even excluding myself I think is rather rude.
Either Mike is picked for the North cos he is good enough, or he isn’t.

I did tell Graehme during the game, he told me that as he was passing the puck he was thinking Graehme don’t pass the puck, but he just couldn’t stop himself.

I would prefer 30 second-1.30 break, so team has chance to say, that guy is floating high covering him or Graehme when you you get the puck don’t pass to the opposition standing in front of net.

I think for it to be a trial it needs to be two teams of NZ players so that everyone gets opportunity. To clarify what was the North/South requirement?
First learned hockey? or First played Rep Hockey? or First NZIHL team?If it is an all star game, then foreigners vs locals would be the way to go.
If you are going to do primary school thing, you probably need to give them a voucher for half price adult as well, so they can get to the game?
