Yeah those crowds last year were mainly Al’s free give aways.
And he got like 800 tickets printed by ticketmaster everygame, and they cost like a $1 each.

Yeah its a fine balance though, because the nelson giants would give away tickets all the time, and they were a winning team. When they tried to charge people for them no one came.
Also the nuggets kept dropping the prices of their tickets, until no one would go because they thought nothing for $5 can be good.
But yeah I do like the idea of giving away tickets to people that do something in return.
But that is not an option to fill a stadium because if people knew there was like 300 free tickets aroundthey just wouldn’t buy any instead wait to get their free one.Giveaways are a dangerous game, and you have to be very careful when playing it

If they have ruled themselves out of IB’s shouldn’t those spots go to people that if chosen are willing to play?Like I have nothing against picking those guys, but if it is a trial then shouldn’t only people that could play IIHF be going?

No one is asking Alpine Arena to give up 4 hours of ice, they already have games scheduled on the Saturday, its just they don’t have enough time at the end to allow for injury or unexplained stoppage.
Surely they can just go you know what guys we will start 30 minutes early, removing 30 minutes from the daytime public session, and we will go 30 minutes later, removing 30 minutes from the end. Giving us an hour of play.
I know its a dead duck, and it probably makes no difference to Canterbury.
But in terms of advertisement for the game, its poor.
I don’t know why, I can’t explain it, but it rubs me the wrong way, having a final on a Sunday. It just grates. Its probably cos I am a kiwi.Because the Superbowl is on a Sunday, and the NRL grand final are on a sunday. But you know what both of those games kick-off about 12 or 3 in the afternoon.
If the Canterbury game was a midday special or early afternoon I could still get up there and back. But you know the other difference about those games, they are both televised so no one gives a rats arse whether they can make it or not, cos they can turn their tv on.Also Ice Hockey is an indoor game, and as such should be played at night. And there are no successful finals played on Sunday night. The NRL tried it and immediately had to return to an afternoon game.
And anyway we are missing the real issues. Red Devils have denounced the Church and are actively promoting teenage pregnancy, drug use, and prostitution.
Those are wild and spurilous accusations Vince, and most people I think who would attend the final would no longer be teenagers and are in a position to support an illegitimate child.
See now because of the refusal to have the game on Saturday night, and move the public session, You are making sure both the parents are teenagers.
Lil Johnie is stuck raising a baby that is not even his, and eventually he will end up on Maury or Jerry Springer, and have to do a paternity test in front of all of america, and be embarrassed after he boldly proclaimed he was definitely the father to Tommy.
Then he will break down on national tv, sending his life into a downward spiral of alcohol abuse, eventually leading him to hit the P pipe, He has to prostitute himself to keep up with this costly habit.
Why must the Alpine Ice Arena ruin peoples lives like this? Why ? WHY??

But Honestly Active its the knock on effect on Susie and Johnnie.
I mean there they are heavy petting at the ice rink in the corner, the disco finishes at 10.30 so they decide to take it to the next level, and next thing you know you are dealing with teenage pregnancy and STI’s. Johnie and Susie will have to leave school and take menial jobs. They will never go to their high school prom, something Susie will resent Johnnie for. Johnnie will resent Susie, when his mates are getting wasted at uni and he is looking after the baby. Johnie will leave Susie eventually and everyones lives would have been ruined.If you push the public session back 30 minutes to an hour, lil Susie parents would have expected her home by now, so will pick her up from the rink, before Johny could have his evil way. No babies, No STI’s, no ruining of lives

Well it makes a mockery of the final of our sport, when you can’t host the final on the night it should be hosted.
Um yeah Sorry there Richie Mccaw you guys want to play the game on Sunday, cos lil Johhny has to feel up lil Susie in Jade Stadium on Saturday to the Grease Megamix.
Honestly I don’t see the problem you shift the Public session by 30 minutes you don’t lose revenue. By the time you get people skates, and hot dogs and chips its 30 minutes before they are on the ice anyway.
I know ChCh public session get full, but honestly the first 30 min, would be warmup period anyway. Like the start of a party when people are drifting in.The advantage of winning round robin, is you get home ice, not that none of the opposition fans can come watch because its logistically unpossible.
I mean I guess I am just mad because I don’t get to see it. But to me it seems stupid
Honestly I don’t see why the rink can’t push Johnny and Susie heavy petting session back 30 mins, go 30 mintues longer at the end.

Unofficially I have heard such crazy rumours as Mike Parsons is the third goalie for the south team? When did he play for any southern team? (he may have I am just not aware of it)
What was the criteria anyway?
Birthplace? First Rep side? First place you played Hockey? First NZIHL team?Because who has those records for example if Duncan Sykes had been selected he is potentially a North guy having first played at the Tamaki club.
And there other people that depending on the criteria could be from either side.I think the problem was they wanted to cover 2 bases with one game, and then it has become a mess.
If its an All Star game, play the best players in the country who can play including imports, because most of them are the All Stars of the league.
If it is a trial game surely people like Argyle, Down, Wilson etc who are not going to play in IB’s next year for various reasons, shouldn’t be in the squad because they would go to a trial.
So instead what we have is some sort of Frankenstein child of the two, that does both jobs half-assed, instead of one job really well.
