Yeah who is in and who is out?

Some of the names I have heard talked about, certainly seem like strange decisions.

Yeah the Dunedin Boys were supporting the stampede. Or I was anyway I can’t speak for the others. However we did have both eyes open so unlike the goal judge we saw Eadens 60th point. Lol
I view the Stampede as our big brothers or older cousins who we fight with a lot, but at the end of the day we want to see someone in the family do well.
Was nice to meet some other forum users and put a face to some of the comments.

It was a really good game of hockey, and we had planned to make the trip to Canterbury, but due to the game being held on a Sunday we cannot make the trip. Damn you Alpine Ice arena!!!

    Most? whose not turning out?

I say split, but if the Stampede can play physical in both their games I think they could take it 2-0.

If Paris is on form, feeding the finisher Eaden, the red devils have the opportunity to win both

Yeah I am going to agree with Vince on this one (possibly the first time this has happened in slapshot history)

I think the NZ defense played a lot better on the Sunday. In fact a couple of times they made stops for Zak. Also I thought that on the Saturday they let the far side winger get away too much meaning Rick had to face a lot of cross ice passes, which I don’t know Zak would have stopped had he been in net. Also on Saturday night the Aussies were getting away a lot of those chances on the sunday they let a few go begging, mostly due to the aggresivness of the Kiwi Defense

Bearing mind as I say this, I think Zak did play very well on Sunday and don’t want to take away from that, I just don’t see him starting on Saturday making a difference to the result.

Way to be the Downer (no pun intended) Tom.

But yeah. Both Corey and  Maru (Stacey) are stepping down form IB’s.

Well thats good for people that listen to the Rock and Bsport (there is a reason why it is called BSport, Radio Sport for life)

What about people in Dunedin that don’t listen to those stations that would make up the majority of the crowd.

Yeah but that is hardly advertising to get people in the crowd.
No one looks at tv guide and says I am off to the rink. and especially bad if they go at Sunday 12 pm when the game is on tv but not at rink.

It will look bad on tv if there is an empty stadium.

Kyle one point of note is that the only NZ team to have success against the Australians was the U18 team from two years back, and a few of those boys are coming through now.

Zak Nothling, Chris Eaden, Jordan Challis, Dale harrop, Josh Hay, Lyle Idoine, Stefan Speck and Dan Nicholls all were members of the team that beat Australia 7-2

I didn’t say Admirals went a longtime before there FIRST win, I said long time without winning over the 2006-2008 seasons they had 20 games between wins.

The only thing dropping thunder would achieve for Southern would be to drop Thunder.
There were at most 3 players from Dunedin in the Stampede and most of them were on the 3rd or 4th line.

Introducing the Thunder didn’t weaken Stampede, it just provided another avenue for Southern Players to compete. In saying that I think a close relationship with Stampede in a development programme would help. Perhaps running “combines” (they do this in the NFL) where the two teams travel to the other centres in Southern and run skills camps, to find and foster the other talent in the region. (not that this doesn’t happen already between thunder and stampede there were members of all clubs in the Southern Region. (Alex, Manitoto,Tekapo, Gore, Queenstown and Dunedin))

Having a even a local assistant coach who would be around for at least 2-3 years would help as well. Just to give some consistency, because it feels like we are starting again every year.

But honestly throw in 5 imports, and a good coach boom instant success.
Also realise that a lot of the other juniors in other regions will eventually end up at some sort of University, and odds are that uni will be Otago. So having a NZIHL team based in Dunedin is important. Just look at Rick Parry where would he have played if there was no Dunedin team.

Also you can’t not have games in the magnificent facility

Yes there will be a Thunder team next year.

Need to have a complete roster, not go into the season with only 18 players.

Need to have full import roster, not 1.5 imports.

Apart from that there was real development in Dunedin this year in the junior ranks I thought, also the local players that did play have developed to give a good base for next year.

I also think people need to keep perspective, the Thunder is still new, and yes they did get beaten by record scores. But I think full roster of imports would drastically change that. Thunder did win a game, and were competitive on occasion against the Swarm and Stampede.

The admirals went a long time without winning a game.

I think you normally talk about going for the W……

Yeah I am really proud of my team, things were far from perfect, but they knuckled down and just kept playing.
They showed they are a real team by working together to deal with problems.
Being demolished on a regular basis is not fun, so the boys have grown extra arms and legs to deal with it.

    I said I can’t explain.
Its just a gut feeling, so don’t try and argue against it.
