I think you misunderstood Plod16 i meant the “rich” as in winning team getting to pick schedule means the will keep winning (getting richer) and the “poor” losing teams will keep losing (getting poorer)
But yeah I would like to see exactly that.

Perhaps 5 years ago Dunedin was leading the charge to host erewhon indoors I don’t remember. Although as I recall Dunedin didn’t have a rink 5 years ago, so this seems like a silly call for them to make.
I also recall 4 (???) years ago Dunedin hosted the Erewhon cup in Naseby. So maybe we grew up and realised tradition is more important than our own needs.
Valid Queenstown has held the cup for many years now, but I remember there was a period of time Dunedin were perennial holders, so yes Chinstrap winning hasn’t been a high priority lately.
But the point is playing Erewhon in the small towns with outdoor rinks is the way it should be, so that we can take over the town and drink and socialise with our hockey brothers and sisters and be the majority.
In saying that Queenstown was missing last year during the social events of erewhon cup, which I must say I was disappointed with, made feel not as complete as my other two erewhon cups in Naseby and Tekapo, with the Lee, Rout, Argyle et al missing from the barFrom what i understand each team pays a set fee to the rink for gatetakings and then anything over and above that is split 50/50 so the more people we put in the ground the better for the league…
It seems kind of silly to make the draw based on last years standings? Won’t that mean the rich get richer and the poor get poorer.
Wouldn’t it be fairer for everyone for a fair draw to be set, so everyone is equal at the start of the season. Just every team gets one bye before the League bye. Then every team gets bye in second round. None of this one team gets both byes in first round, one gets both in second round.
If any teams should benefit it should be the weaker ones. A similar scenario to NHL draft where last place team gets first draft pick not first place team.

This year the AB’s game wasn’t in the same city.
Its a reality of playing a winter sport i guess we will clash with AB’s games.Although I don’t see why the league can’t look at the draw and go oh look AB’s match this weekend lets play the games in the afternoon on that day.
We already play 5.30 games when we are in Auckland.Uni crowd is when Dunedin will fill the stadium doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure that out. So avoiding games in Dunedin during uni break is probably a good thing to do.
I knew you would take it as a defense of thunder also. And rereading my post it was probably a valid assumption.
But I think it is unfair that the red devils now have no breaks essentially till the end.
Just the same as i think the Thunder had played one full round plus first two games of second round before getting one break.The Stampede get their home games scheduled on and around the winter festival. So i think taking in local holidays or custom is as valid a reason to schedule as you do as any. I was more referring to the fact that during the periods of break during uni, we are less likely to get fans along to the game, therefore scheduling our byes then can increase our revenue and under the leagues revenue sharing arrangement increase the leagues revenue. The uni crowd is a big part of dunedins market, more so then any other city
I was not looking for sympathy or suggesting it was the reason for any teams present position on the ladder (good or bad)

I don’t know if the thunder going out for a social skate is going to help them win.
Valid no one remembers how we played in the 3rd period of an away game. But like Vpatrol says we remember.
We do have to start winning if we want fans to come and support us. But it is a start for us to have good happy thoughts to go back to, to help us achieve things (i.e. Peter Pan)Also I don’t know changing horses midstream is a good approach. It worked for the penguins but I can point to a lot of teams that it doesn’t work.

The weekend was a shame… and rather indicative of the Thunders season to date.
The puck bounces the right way for admirals they take advantage of it. The puck bounces for thunder they don’t capitalise.And at this level that is the difference. Honestly the thunder where just as much in that game as the Admirals were if not more at some points. But the way they took there opportunities was the difference. Although Thunder scoring 4 goals on Mike Parsons in under 2 minutes was a good sign for the up coming weekend.
The bounces also cost us in every other game I have seen with the exception of the first one against Canterbury. Don’t get me wrong I don’t think we deserved to win those games, just i don’t think we deserved to lose that badly.
I think Ryan is saying the Devils will run Stampede close….
I think those games will be close, on who is running who close I don’t know….
Didn’t Jeff score 6 out of the 7 goals the admirals scored on thudner last year or something like that…

Hence I am tried to make everyone know that post was my interpretation of the game.
I understand that I fail to take off my rose tinted glasses a lot of the time, so I thought if I could lend them to others they could see what I see.
But yeah i understand its a though job refereering especially in a dark cave like the queenstown ice arena.
Yeah for all you guys in the red devils, I am sure Mrplod16 can back me up in saying despite the scoreline being similar the performance of the thunder last saturday was a marked improvement on the opening home weekend.
I am looking forward to the weekend.
It is a shame we have to play admirals back to back weekends
