Note Thunder was also down their ice blacks, plus a few other 1st and 2nd liners…..
Qtown had some ice blacks present…..
Should be good contest between the Thunder and Stampede in the NZIHL….
Azzy77ModeratorYeah Hear hear Rhys….
Kyle had to put up with last minute volunteers who complained about not being told where to be. And with volunteers who decided at the last minute they couldn’t be bothered…Well done guys…
Only complaint i heard from fans, you cna’t hear announcements in the stand this needs to be fixed, we have heard the problem from last year and we haven’t remedied it…Some one do something

[/quote:3arw1ziz]I told you didn’t i, Vince, Australia lost to Lithuania overnight 9-3…and the only teams they have left are Kazakhstan and Croatia.
Kazakhstan will beat them, but the Croatian game will be the game we have to watch… but seeing as they only lost to Slovenia 4-2 I suspect its a given….Azzy77ModeratorBased on the Stats one would assume greece was lucky to be in this….as Vince says 47 shots to 15 and to only lose 4-3in overtime, someone better get there goalie something nice..
Ands the Greeks scored to 2:1 PP goals mitigating any claims of bias one would assume.
Do you meant the ref blew his whistle 5-10 seconds later in which case ice blacks may have been controlling puck???Or the ref didn’t indicate he was going to call a penalty by way of raised arm 5-10 seconds late??
Azzy77ModeratorI am in wellington and i heard about it yesterday.
Azzy77ModeratorGrant Hay is now the President of the NZIHF (The position Graheme Glass occupied)
Gunther Birgnel is and has always been President of NZIHL.Azzy77ModeratorWick’s strong point has never been reading posts.
He probably got confused cos you wrote two paragraphs and only read the first sentence of the second paragraph. (He will only read that last sentence of this one). i.e. Those two games have been cancelled. Clearly not enough information in that sentence.
Azzy77ModeratorAussie are now two divisons higher than us, so probably not…..Although I suspect by the end of this month we will be back in the Same division again, us being promoted and them demoted to div II
I hope so though that would be cool.
Azzy77ModeratorWhy did New Zealand not have that domain name sewn up?
Also…surely by now the Americans and Canadians would have issued press release about the games if their actual senior mens teams were coming.
And if they were the actual teams surely the federation in NZ would know something about it. But they don’t, they are just keeping eye on developments like the rest of us.
Azzy77Moderator20 million…..wait, *drinks coffee*…..*reads again*…*spits coffee everywhere*….
That sounds like an expensive rink.
I am not sure of the cost of the Dunedin Rink. (and granted it was built inside an existing shell). But I don’t think it would come close to that cost (although I could be really wrong)But yeah sounds like a plan. So are you actually building this rink??? Or is this website designed to get me or Kyle to give up our million dollar lunches for a week and give you some money?
Dunedin built its rink, off our own backs, I know a lot of hard work went into to putting it together, and its continual upgrading. So I don’t think we would be able to help you financially. But we wish you all the best.
If you are actually building this rink, when is the projected opening date???
Azzy77ModeratorI knew i had de ja vu
Azzy77Moderator7 teams???
There are only 5 currently??
Where does the other one come from?Azzy77ModeratorI think I would like to add, I love the idea, and good work on doing it.
But the refence to us as infants is quite insulting, there is a small (granted) but strong ice community already in NZ.
Also NZ has been a member of the IIHF since 1977, so we definatley have a history. We are more like toddlers-tweens in the Ice Hockey world, not infants.Azzy77Moderator"Windgat":eriecuof wrote:they will definitely not be national level players, and probably mostly not from North America (like the NHL ).
[/quote:eriecuof]I agree we will probably not be getting the senior mens team.
One would assume if the game is being promoted as Canada vs USA, the players would have to be from North America at the very least?
And also it is probably some form of national representation team on some level, otherwise it would be a mockery, maybe its the junior, the peewees, the midgets.OR maybe its some novelty team like a team of dwarves, the Canadian over 32 under 35 team, The USA team for the slightly hard of hearing, The Canadian team for people whose left hockey skate is bigger then their right hockey skate (there is someone who used to play for Dunedin that had to buy two pairs of skates)
Azzy77ModeratorDunedin, Botany, Other auckland one, Alpine Ice (CHCH), Queenstown and Gore…..
By my count that is 6 permanent ice rinks….
Unless Queenstown has stopped having ice year round already….
I note the type of construction being mooted, if i am reading correctly will only be able to be used in Winter months, so we are building more seasonal rinks right?? (based on Canadian endorsement of design http://web.me.com/hendrikvw/Blade-Sport … a-box.html, I could be mistaken however as the writeup on wellington rink says year round, which one is it??)If we count winter season rinks, NZ has got Tekapo, Naseby, Alexandra to throw into the mix, which brings us to 9 rinks.
But yeah we do need more ice. I myself have considered wellington a no go as a place to live solely on the fact there is no ice rink there…..
What is the Blade Sports Academy? and why can’t it be set up in one of the other rinks until one their rinks in built???
What are the completetion dates on some of these rinks? -
