Does anyone know whats going on??
Azzy77ModeratorSo whose playing goalie (i don’t feel like going if there is another goalie A i am on heavy pain medication now B don’t want to go for two games)??
How are we getting there?
where are we staying??You mean cos the thunder pulled out we are combining teams?
We had a team didn’t we….Azzy77ModeratorI am not playing goalie for Penguins, I emailed Larry.. obviously he didn’t let you know
Azzy77ModeratorWhere did you get the photo from?
Ask that person..or are you just teasing us with your knowledge of a secret skating spot?
Azzy77ModeratorWell I guess we could but thats only by the airport…. so we are still like 1.5 hours from Alex which is quite a distance really
Azzy77ModeratorSweet. where are we staying Active?
Azzy77ModeratorToo late to put in third team unfortunately……
People weren’t on to it so they miss out… Alex gave us an extension to Monday and we didn’t hear from anyone else so we just put in two teamsAzzy77ModeratorYeah I just went through the minutes and it turns out Larry did say it would be a full season with a break in June…in dang it I closed all the minutes i think march/April…. I probably was drifting in and out of at that point.
So apologies if I gave the impression Larry didn’t tell the committee because he did.
Azzy77ModeratorSee what happened.. the proposal V3 looked fine… why did it change?
I think the main reason the committee are peeved off is that what is happening at the moment looks nothing like the proposed plan put forward. But that is just my opinion. What I would say is that I don’t know where this idea the committee are focused on the Thunder is coming from, we don’t even talk about thunder at most committee meetings, go over the minute if you want, Thunder have their own meetings with their own committee, perhaps the confusion arises becuase both committees have similar members, but these members do their jobs in the respective meetings.
The committee has never and will never run DIHL. Some one like Kurt and Cy, Kyle and Ryan step forward and propose to run a DIHL and they do, generally all they do with the committee, is get the DIHA to book their ice for them A/ so it fits in with the rest of the plans B/ so we get it at the DIHA rate. The point of having the people step forward to run the DIHL is so the committee doesn’t have to. Like how the committee delegates Kyle to set up Referees for all the games, or delegates me to talk to the High school.
That is how a committee works, if you have a problem with your task then you take it back to the committee and ask for advice, if your task is going swimmingly you go the committee and inform them of that. In saying that if you want to make changes to something ie. go from split season to whole season DIHL then it is advisable to take this to the committee for approval. Not just do it.
I do notice in none of those attachments that Ryan put on there is a certain name absent from them all. Which appears to have made quite a difference.
Also its all well and good saying this is how the rest of the world plays ice hockey, but we aren’t in the REST of the world, we are in the sliver that differentiates us from being the rest. And the way we played DIHL had worked just fine for us up until now. In North America ice hockey is very physical with plenty of hits due to their small ice, in europe its free flowing and elegant due to their large ice… we need to play Kiwi Hockey not do something because thats how they do it in Canada or whereever.
Also on goalies play for free, there is kind of a fuzzy logic there. See most times for a goalie to play they have to own their own gear, which costs roughly the GDP of a small european country, hence it is advisible to give them slight discount normally free ice time. However due to the proliferation of gear avaliable through the club now, goalies tend to just use that and say keep giving me discount. So therein lies the problem, a good solution would be free to goalies with all their own gear due to them having run a small european nation at a profit under those strict EU policies…damn commies!!
And charge goalies either full price… or a nominal rental fee for the use of the gear and then no playing fee.Azzy77ModeratorWe told Larry, that he had to change the schedule at the last round of DIHL, which was what three-four weeks ago??
So I don’t know why he didn’t pass it on, we told him with that much advanced warning so he could pass it on to all the players…
Azzy77ModeratorActually the high schools orginally had 4- 9 booked from last year…. then neil overwrote that with the dihl cutting high schools back to 4-8…then we found the high schools had a lot of teams so we reduced a lot of them to half court hockey…. but then they all complained that they weren’t getting a fair deal, since the ice was small, we tried to explain to them that with the ability of their players half ice is ample, and that the sihl games used to be played on ice that size at the big chill, but no they wanted massize sheets of ice…we convinced a few to stay on small ice but many would not budge….. and we moved to make games 2 * 20 minute periods… everyone happy…. not quite we couldn’t fit in all games without an additional 30 minutes… so we got steve to ask larry to consider starting slightly later due to the fact that tuesday night DIHL doesn’t start till at least then…..and I thought it was was all kosher…but you are saying it is not now???
Anywho imho DIHL should have remained split season around schools/SIHL, then its simply a matter of transposing schools and DIHL on wednesdays… means that more people would play southern league due to the fact its their hockey in the season and won’t just say pass I got my DIHL, also if DIHL is put around SIHL then ice time is way more free for practises in season then out of season DIHL could be everyday of the week almost….high school teams are not doubling up all the time, meaning both competitions suffer for numbers on those teams….Also you are more likely to intice people to sign up to a 8 week comp then 16 weeks, who plans their life that far in advance….You could pick up more thunder players in their off season as well…. Schools is also a real growth area in the sport we are turning away teams due to lack of ice time so this Ice fight is only going to get worse….
But you guys are doing a good job with what you have…. just I don’t think it is the right product…I guess if you don’t budge, one avenue we haven’t pursued ..is signing the best schools up in the DIHL only and using their games against each other is the schools A grade league…so similar to erewhon cup when only clubteams can earn points but SIHL rep teams play for experiance….and then that cuts like 4-5 teams out of high schools so we could fit them into a more truncated competition….
I am just spitballing here…
Azzy77ModeratorYeah goalies is a really interesting juggling act in any big team. ( this is a generalization of any team, if any of the characters resemble real life people its purely unintentional)
We are very fragile creatures so if we could play all the time without getting to injured and not getting lit up too much you would only want one, so you don’t have to shuffle them, and not hurt any ones ego by telling them they are not starting, or not dressing
But everyone has an off game, so you need a backup who can come off the bench and start cold and do a good job, he may not be flashy but he gets the job done, and occasionally for a minor injury you will need to switch
But the problem is with a reasonable amount of games and the level this is played at sometimes goalies go down for more then half a game, so you need a third goalie to allow for this eventuality …..
So managing three goalies is a tough proposition with players if they have bad couple shift you can bench him for the rest of the game, and drop him back to third line for next game so he can still get in the game and redeem himself…
If a goalie has a poor game, and remember no goal is ever a goalies fault so this is purely subjective, and you wish to bench him, either to second or third goalie, that goalie has no real way of forcing himself back in unless on of the others has a bad game (again subjectively) hence why goalies hate sitting out.I hope this insight into the goalies mind helps you…
Azzy77Moderatorhow come the photos from auckland games went online pretty much straight after the game?
Azzy77ModeratorSomeone may want to bump this last part of discussion to forum…
But we beat the beasts 7-2 I think… and lost to alex 6-4 which was kinda gutting because we clawed out way back to be 4-3 and they scored a goal with a high stick, but it wasn’t called no sweat eh….Apparently there are dunedin trials as well, and larry will also use your stats as a guide about whether you make the team or not…
Azzy77ModeratorGood Pictures Ryan, and nice captions….
You don’t happen to have any of me reffing do you?
