From what Phil said last ngiht the chances of getting a non-contact final are slim to none.

However I think the other games people are pretty happy to negotiate, thats the feeling I got last year when we were playing.

I think the beasts should still enter if they really want to just play hockey.
The small numbers is nothing to do with money its tradition, just as the tradition of playing on outdoor ice, hence when Dunedin hosted it last year we hosted it in Naseby, and the contact in the final.

I have never understood why the beasts want a squad of 4000 anyway, the size of the Beasts squad rivals that, of the NZIHL teams.

Besides I think the small squads allow more people to get more ice time, and since you guys are part of the dunedin club, I am sure you can find some other stragglers to attach the remainder of your squad to, to from another dunedin team

Hmmm, is pool play considered an elimination round?
I mean at the end some teams maybe eliminated, but losing a game doesn’t guaranttee elimination, which would be the case in semi or final.

I was under the impression the final is definately no question, non-negotiable contact, (phil told me he brought up at SIHL meeting the prospect of it not being that way and he was voted down)

But the other rounds are more flexible, especially since southern women are sending a team.

You played in the tournament Kyle last year, what were your games contact or non-contact?

I had a though last night and this may be impossible….

But what if we got permission from DCC to Inline skate up and down George for hour or so in full hockey gear handing out flyers, to get people interested.

Or set up a net somewhere, and shoot on me or other goalies….

Or just actually WALK up and down george handing out flyers..

    P.S. Duane Bell shouldn’t play

Sky used to play hockey live three or four times a week in the glory days..
The thing is Hockey is live at middle of day, so its not competing against major sports in New Zealand, so what you get happening on sky then is scrabble champs, or skip rope….

Sure theres American Football, Basketball, and Baseball, but what sky used to do was give each game a day each and then alternate the left over ones between the four, so we could get live hockey…

Besides its mostly the playoffs we are interested in, so its only Basketball, as Football is still predraft than, baseball, is going through its preseason…

So you have two major events competeing, surely they could be staggered, and I know it costs money but sky has a lot, so they could use more than one of the four freaking sports channels they have, since most of the time sky one, is just playing whats on ESPN….

    We could get live hockey

A broadband connection would give better quality than sky, explain??

Do you not understand the beauty that is live sport?
Knowing the emotions you are feeling are the same as the fans everywhere at the same time, and connection to the players, as though everyone watching it, and playing is connected by some sort of mystical connection, that enhances everyones senses.
So that power and beauty is that much more amplified than if you were watching a delayed game, when the force of the game has wilted away and you, you are the only person feeling those emotions, and you feel empty, so you don’t feel obligated to watch it, no matter what.
During a live game, people neglect their bladders*, they can’t move to go to work or school, the phone is like satans evil puppet designed to ruin your appreciation of what you are viewing.
A delayed game those obligations no longer hold us to the screen we can get up make a coffee, pause it and go to work, if we know the score watch until we have seen all the goals, then stop. Will we stand idley by well Sky starve us of our live sport….

No friends let us rise up and take back our right to live Hockey…..

*Seriously during World cup the urologists had to work over time in Taiwan as all the men were holding on so they didn’t miss any action, and damaged themselves…
And I have heard ancedotes about water usage surging at halftime breaks in cities during major sporting events

Cheers Stefan I was starting to think I was the only one….

My sister came round for dinner tonight, and was like oh I saw that thing on Ice Hockey the other night, I was like oh yeah what you think, and she was like theres a lot of foreigner players playing in Cnaterbury huh?

I was like yeah but the piece was about foreign players in the National league.

To which she replied oh really, I thought it was just about foreigners playing hockey in Caanterbury.

So I guess what I am trying to get at, is sure it says there is decent hockey being played in New Zealand, but it sort of gave the impression ( to my mum and my sister, who i guess are related so could both have the same gene that fails to pick up the gist of news items, which I also could be afflicted with) that it was being played by foreigners.

Now I don’t want to sound xenophobic or anything, but to me that sort of gives the impression that top level hockey is unaccesible to locals, which would be a big turnoff to most New Zealanders sort of like why would I want to see a bunch of foreigners play hockey, which by the way most people won’t because the lack of emphasis on National league.

Maybe I am wrong and I am misjudging NZers but thats just my ten cents, we haven’t had two cents here since early 90’s

New Zealand is not a big Ice Hockey country, so extolling the fact we have imports here is not going intice the everyday punter along, unless you get Wayne Gretzky to come the only name most people will recognise. Janus maybe good, but people arn’t going to know that.

Talk about New Zealands National league, indicate the teams in it, I may have missed it but did it mention the Auckland teams at all?
Say its being going for a couple of years, say it has got to a level were foreign players, from good Ice hockey countries, want to come here to play in it, to highlight the level it has got to. Instead of telling us about the imports.
Perhaps even mention there is a cap on the foreign players,

I don’t know it just rubbed me the wrong way, if it was meant to promote national league, it failed,I mean my mum watched and thought it was about “People from weird countries playing Ice hockey in New Zealand” (not to politically correct my mum)
She didn’t realise it was about National League at all.

Well I sorta meant instead of them JUST doing their routine, during our intermission, why not dress them in a way that relates to the team then they can do their Routine.
I will volunteer to wear the leotard and support them, and the I hope the leotard will support me, see what i did there…

Plus we should get Bill Acklin to write us a song,

    Dunedin Thunder thats our Vice
    Dunedin Thunder winning is nice
Dunedin Thunder welcome to the house of Ice

    oh yeah thats hot
