    Good work.

I don’t see there being current NHL players due to insurance and other costs getting them released from their clubs.

Betteman is reluctant to release players for Olympics so I don’t see how the he would for some promoters from NZ. It doesn’t benefit them.

All I know is until people see names, they are going to have a hard job convincing people this is real.

That being said if they get current NHL players (good ones) I will eat my hat, and purchase tickets and go….. But lets see some names first.
I think that the longer the names are hidden the more credibility they lose…

After about 2 years of emailing, and 2 weeks of solid commenting on their facebook page.
They have final come forward and said they will have two “invitational” sides from Canada and USA, so finally some honesty about who is coming.

They also state there will be current NHL players coming, this is interesting,  I will keep my eyes open to see if I can find out who these players will be……

There are a lot of players in the NHL though, so who they are will be interesting……

Furthermore, everytime I post on their facebook events, letting the general public know it isn’t actually Team USA and Team Canada coming they delete my comments.

If they are not trying to be dishonest why would they remove those comments? It doesn’t make sense.

They plan on selling tickets for 550 people in the upstairs lounge of the Dunedin Ice Stadium. About 100 of the people will be able to see I guess….

They seem to be using both domains…

Okay So Doug and Webster or whatever their names are, are really amping up the promotion of these games they are giving away tickets if you become a fan of their page.

Incidentally at this point I should point out they have created a page, which you like, not become a fan of….I guess they mean you should like there page, they should hire a social network guru.

Anyways I did some snooping myself and I found out from Hockey Canada, they have heard nothing of this. So just confirming what we all knew.

There Ticket prices would be okay for the actual Team Canada and Team USA. But $80 minimum up to 150$ is pretty steep for the Moosejaw assasains vs the Florida retirees. And $2500 for a corporate table is ludicrious especially since you wouldn’t be able to see….its not a boxing match…..

“Team Canada” and “Team USA” probably have to get back to North America vpatrol I think Summer vacation will be winding down.
All I know is I hope there will be free hats, you don’t see enough of that in hockey these days….

Which Korea is it? Last time I checked there were two of them?

They were addressed. Many more than you can imagine.

I think that is an issue though, if you are addressing the problems during the game, many people are going to turn off in the 1st period, when it is developing.
And by the time you get to the third period, which was good coverage, you have less than half the audience that started.

So in terms of looking for sponsors, the Third period footage is your selling point.

Also though to back you up, on the wide angle issue, I sympathise with your plight. Vpatrol you have to realise to get good wide angle you have to get a reasonable distance back. And most rinks in NZ don’t offer this space. So you have to come up with solutions like corner camera.

Just a query, did you think about elevating this man in the corner? It is quite an attractive shot, looking down on the corner, rather than eye level?

Even in Dunedin it is a balancing act, as if you get too far back, you get underneath the lights on the curling rink, which are hot and ruin the shot, but with a bit of adjustment we found a happy medium.

P.S. I don’t want this to read as trying to tear you down, more things I would have tried to do, and problems I have encountered before. To help for next time.

I wasn’t suggesting you have a camera follow the ref exclusively.
But when he blows his whistle, he is generally about to say something important.
Not always correct, but generally important.
Also he tends to go over in front of the score bench to repeat the signal, so its not to tricky to find him.
But to be fair I have never run cameras, so I don’t know how difficult it is. But I would imagine as soon as whistle blows, one of the three manned cameras could find the ref.
Also to be fair a too many men call is made by the linesman who calls it where he stands so wee bit harder to find.

That withstanding if you had communication with the scorebox, then at least the commentator could get the call right, even if he guesses to start and then corrects himself if there is a delay. I think the first role of the commentator is to relay accurately what is going on in the game to the audience.

On the disallowed goal, George Pilgrim reckons its for an offside, but I didn’t see any other swarm players in the offensive zone, and it looks like the linesman is calling too many men??

(Refs) Incidentally if this is the case isn’t that a dubious call, since the play was at the other end of the rink, so the swarm would hardly be affecting the play?

Also when wannamaker goes down there is no mention of the penalty at all, perhaps this is just due to the highlight cutting.

Getting the penalties right is just a matter of finding the ref, linesman on camera, or looking if you are commentating, or communication with the scorebox, as they are recording them.

Camera work was a lot better, you figured out, like most productions do eventually, its better to rely on your wide angle camera for pretty much the entire play and use the other cameras sparingly, in that sense it is more like covering soccer than rugby.

Kyle well I appreciate your facetious tone.

The only differences between the two icing rules was whether you could change or not on an icing whistle.
Not where the next face off would be. My advice was sound, and I distinctly remember mentioning the change but telling them the aussies weren’t going to play under it.

I actually received a credit in the credits, and a mention in the on-air commentary Kyle (if that is your real name) and they the crew asked me out fro beer later as thanks…..

I don’t think its the scores so much Ryan.
The issue is making the display clock match up with the clock in the stadium.

During the NZ vs Australia games they tried to start and stop with the whistles, but they kept getting out, and used a lady in the rink who could see the clock, to relay actual time to men in OSB truck out the side of the building so they could adjust it.

This was less than ideal tho, since the clock would jump around.
They did have a powerplay clock tho, which is ideal.

I understand the need to maintain a level of professionalism with the core crew. But I as Ryan and Vince say, I don’t think anyone is suggesting letting hockey nuts lose with the camera, or the onscreen graphics, just use them in a sports expertise advisory role.

I know for the NZ vs Aussie games, I spent an hour with the camera crew discussing various things with them to optimise their filming. i.e. teaching them linesman signal for icing/offside so they would know where faceoff would be….

But yea definitely be keen to help in any capacity, so keep us posted
