That’s not much of an all-star game then is it? Ann all-star game is supposed to be the best players. Why don’t they do NZ Stars vs. World Stars instead of North vs. South?

Also realise that a lot of the other juniors in other regions will eventually end up at some sort of University, and odds are that uni will be Otago. So having a NZIHL team based in Dunedin is important. Just look at Rick Parry where would he have played if there was no Dunedin team.

That was the other main reason and important selling point that we pushed to the Southern League when we put the proposal to them.

    Why thank you Blake…

Great plans Kyle. I like that bridging idea. It does need to be done. I’d support it if I was still there…

Aaron your first comment with being young and what not is totally right. Look at the NHL. The Islanders were terrible when they first came into the league back in the mid to late 70’s. Then when the 80’s hit, they were the team to beat. What people don’t realize is that expansion teams take a lot of time to get up and running successfully. Nashville is another example. It took them about 6 years before they reached the playoffs in the NHL. Dunedin will be up there in the next few years. I can’t remember who made the comment about the pee-wees but if you look at that, it will be those guys in the league and it could very well happen. The trick will be keeping them in the sport (which is what Dunedin risked losing if they did not get the Thunder and there was a very good chance that a lot of our good players would move on and leave the sport). Anywho, be patient. The Thunder’s time will come.

I had one in inline recently this year. I had to play goal because at the time, no one else wanted to play. So it was my third game in and we were going very well, considering I was in net. We were up 11-9 at this point and I was getting a bit cocky. So I would do the occasional wonder out of the net to get the dump in pucks. Well with about 5 minutes to go in the game, the other dumps the puck into the zone from their blue line and it was sailing through the air heading wide of the net. But because I was feeling pretty good about my play, I desided to go out to play it. It deflected off me helmet and into the net. The ref skated up to me laughing when he got the puck out of the net. Needless to say, I don’t wonder anymore.

What was with all the ads plastered all over the cover shells? They get some sponsors this season or is this a league wide thing?

We also have to remember that the reffing in those first 2 games last year had Canterbury, Southern and Dunedin all very angry on how poorly the reffing was in those games. I mean it is saying something when the winning teams from both of those games also complained about the reffing.

Nothing like a game 7 to win the Stanley Cup.
