ChrisMemberA properly web-formatted history of the DIHA would be excellent.
ChrisMemberIs the www redirect for SEO purposes?
EDIT: Also, I really think there needs to be a “New to Ice Hockey? Click here!” button for people who want to get involved. I mean, under the competitions link it mentions club nights and the DIHL and whatnot, but that means nothing unless you already know what they are.
EDIT2: Oh, I just noticed the sidebar. Didn’t really jump out at me for some reason. Maybe the “membership” heading should say “get involved” instead?

[/quote:33p633qk]hmmm. I see a couple posts referring to the aussies being at a higher level then us. That statement is true but neither post said it was a bad idea. Two posts said Aus has jumped the gun and by all accounts they have. I see a couple of facts written but not one bitch.
That leaves my post wanting to know about scheduling which is a genuine curiosity. I’ve been involved in both leagues and think its relevant. Imports were the difference in the NZWG so its a potential issue. Existing NZIHL roster rules could also be an issue. I think the set rosters should be changed regardless of what happens with TTCL. Nobody has said it was a bad idea or has bitched about anything.
Let’s not forget that a forum is about exchanging ideas.
[/quote:33p633qk]Any post that doesn’t read, “ZOMG this is the b3st ide4 evarrrrrrrrr!!!1!!1one” is bitching.
Adhere to the party line at all times. Dissenters will be shot. Survivors will be shot again.

And the position of the “i”.
Jaimee and Jamie are quite different, really.
ChrisMemberI completely agree.
ChrisMemberThey do it so they can be all whizz-bang and use AJAX.
ChrisMemberI think he means it’s a good idea.
ChrisMember"nzice":1cm2dere wrote:perhaps you should also complain to the SFO, Commerce Commission and Fair Go….
[/quote:1cm2dere]The SFO? I’m assuming you’re taking the piss. We did complain to the Commerce Commission. That was what got a bunch of shit changed. Did you even see the shit they were putting up at the beginning? The only reason the word ‘invitational’ ever got mentioned was because we didn’t get into bed with these clowns and actually put some pressure on them.

Without people like him nothing would happen
[/quote:1cm2dere]Fuck that noise. Fucking scumbags who sell a bullshit product by lying about it aren’t winning, they’re just fucking cheats. People like him don’t make the world go round, legitimate businessmen do. This pack of wankers are nothing but lying pieces of shit.

That’s my concern, there was talk of NHL megastars, multiple Olympians and Stanley Cup champions when the tickets first went on sale, and that clearly isn’t the case for who’s shown up.
[/quote:1l3c7jfk]This is exactly it.
ChrisMemberThere’s an item about the Ice Blacks opinion of this scam on 3 Sport tonight!
ChrisMember"Kyle":3g2hyprw wrote:"GP":3g2hyprw wrote:The problem for those who are going and don’t know much about hockey, this could be a very bad introduction to the game, especially with the overhyped promotion it has had. Someone told me they were scared this could set the growth of hockey back 10 years in NZ.And for those who do know hockey are potentially going to be very disappointed at what they paid a lot of money for.
[/quote:3g2hyprw]This is my concern about what will happen a few weeks from now. Not that the hockey won’t be average – that I expect from the numbers and players that are now coming. People who know hockey well won’t be impressed. It’s the thousands of people that don’t know hockey – if it’s so bad that they can tell… our sport has been screwed. We’ve all worked too hard making slow steady progress to have someone take it away.
[/quote:3g2hyprw]This is a concern of mine as well, but TBH the biggest thing for me is that this is just plain, flat-out wrong.
ChrisMemberI’ve mostly stayed off this thread, as my general understanding of hockey is mediocre at best, but I’ll throw my two cents in.
I’ve just started refereeing local games, and I’m blown away by how difficult it can be. I was unable to attend the recent referees workshop due to a prior commitment, but I’m keen to improve my skills. I find refereeing enjoyable, and it’s nice to give back to my club and the sport in general. Plus, of course, the power… oh, lord, the POWER!!1!
Ahem. Anyway, it seems like there’s general agreement that the refereeing isn’t perfect, there’s just a dispute as to the extent of the discrepancy between player skill growth and referee skill growth, as well as the cure for the problem.
With this comment we are finally getting somewhere:
"kelf6966":3f9utgmm wrote:If we need to raise funds to do this, let me know how much and I am happy to try and source this if the NZIHL or the NZIHF are unable to come to the party
[/quote:3f9utgmm]Like Kelf, I think Kyle’s idea is a good one. Kyle seems to have his finger pretty well on the pulse on these kinds of issues, so let’s say this $10k figure is about right. Kelf’s put his hand up and said that he’s willing to try and do something about the situation, in the form of looking into some fundraising options.
$10k is a concrete goal – one that could be achieved if the wider hockey community and regional clubs got behind it, as well as any ideas that kelf may have.
Even if this isn’t “the answer”, surely it’s a pretty good step in the right direction?
