Kyle, I think that would have helped with our DIHL team this week. Our forward line wasn’t on time for a faceoff once, I don’t think!

I’m with Vince, Kyle, Ryan and Blake. These guys have broken the law several times in their attempts to rake in some cash. Now being a good Capitalist boy, I’m all for people making a buck or two, but in my opinion this is fraud. These guys have done everything they can to try and stop people talking about what these games will actually involve. As far as I’m concerned, they’re nothing but liars and cheats, and they’ll be doing New Zealand hockey no favours.

If this were really a value-for-money event, they wouldn’t need to resort to fraud.

Well, there’s not much that can be done about that now. Thanks for bringing it to our attention and to Kyle’s also. I’m really not in-the-know with this stuff, but I’ll have a talk with Ryan about what can be done to make SlapShot a better resource for this kind of information.

I was talking to the woman in the clothing store today, and upon hearing that I was an Ice Hockey player asked me, “Oh, are you excited about Canada and USA coming to play in NZ? I’m going to buy tickets!”

She was very annoyed to find out the truth of the matter, and won’t be buying tickets anymore.

I don’t see how the [b:1gi691wg]net[/b:1gi691wg] effect of bullshit like this is in any way good for hockey in NZ.

It will be amazing experience competing at that level. I hope the losses aren’t getting them down!

Yes, the skill-jousles-per-second-dollar value will be considerably lower. NB: I have updated the units to reflect SI conventions, which means anyone doing skill flux calculations should factor in a constant of 60.

The appropriate unit is then probably “Skill Flux” – average player skill multiplied by average intensity over the length of the game – measured in skill-joules-per-minute.

I’d say the skill flux will be lower than or equal to the NZIHL.

Stickying this topic for the time being. PM me if you have a burning need to know why.

    Leaving this here for humour.

    Cheers Ryan.

Bad timing for me, but would love to play if I can fit it in.

Agreed, Todd. These guys are honestly terrible event promoters. I can’t think of anything they’ve done that has enticed me to go to their games, and I’m of the class of people for whom it really wouldn’t take much.

Yep, they really don’t want people asking questions.

The irony of this whole situation is that if they’d just been honest about what they were marketing, the whole hockey community (me included) would have been really excited about it!

And Re: Trade Marks, maybe they are registered, but it’s for the owners to protest, not me.

So, an update for everyone here:

The guys from Douglas Webber tried to call Ryan and I, and they got through to Ryan after I refused to release my phone number. Ryan took the call and the guy essentially said “Well Team Canada and Team USA aren’t registered Trade Marks, and so there’s nothing wrong.”

Well, bullshit. That would be an issue for the owner(s) of those Trade Marks. This is an FTA issue, and that’s why the Commerce Commission is involved. Ryan and I are not the Commerce Commission.

The guy also declined to post here on SlapShot, even after Ryan pointed out that if they had legitimate reasons for behaving in what is, in my opinion, a fundamentally dishonest manner, then the whole hockey community would like to hear from them.

The fact that they’ve been repeatedly deleting comments questioning their incredibly dubious claims from their Facebook page speaks volumes as to their integrity.

Calling us was a thinly veiled attempt to get us to stop questioning their bullshit. Well, sorry, but we won’t, and furthermore, it’s out of our hands.

These guys are already the subject of one complaint to the Commerce Commission (by me). I’m tempted to make another on the basis of their facebook page claiming that “Team USA” and “Team Canada” will be playing.
