Haha, you’re so Fran?ais, Blake! I’m assuming patinoir = rink?

Being honest, I would be willing to pay a bit extra to play at such a wicked rink.

I think one will be a tie, IBs will take the other one. This is largely the same IB team that came together well at the world champs, and they’re playing a couple of sydney teams mashed together. A full strength Aussie team would be different.

If the IBs are within a goal at the beginning of the third I think they’ll win the game, they always finished strong at world champs as their work in the first two periods paid back. Parry to get a start.

I just want to point out how accurate my pick here was. Where’s my prize?

Ooooh, I’m not sure I’d call that an accurate pick. Parry did start though, right?

Man, I would LOVE to play there! That looks like the meanest rink ever!

Worth noting is that there’s been quite good interest and attendance at the checking games, beyond what I’ve seen from most DIHL teams, although admittedly there are only two teams in this present series.

Checking hockey is definitely a different style of game, one which I really enjoy, and it has definitely been a good learning experience.

I also have a strong suspicion that many of those who are perhaps wary of playing contact hockey would actually enjoy it a lot more than they think they would. Certainly there hasn’t been a single hard hit, overt aggression or fight so far in the intermediate checking series. There was one slightly dangerous moment when Jack got hit from behind close to the boards, but to be honest that sort of situation occurs often enough in SNC anyway.

I think you’ll also see a lot more desire for prem-level hockey once the NZIHL season is over, for obvious reasons.

Cool. You’re absolutely right about the lack of progression – if you start with age group hockey it’s not so bad, but starting hockey as an adult (as I did) pretty much boxes you in to SNC.

I appreciate that the DIHL is a social league, but I would have thought the A/B split might allow the A grade to be run as a checking competition. I am mindful of the fact that SNC ladies and those who simply don’t wish to play checking hockey might then be left without a place to go.

The Prem grade sounds like an excellent idea. It’s a shame we can’t get the numbers to run some more hockey over the summer.

The Red Devils out do the Stampede in Goaltending and scoring……..

I think you mean the experiance they have.

I meant that the stampede has a superior team of stats recording and processing, not the stats themself. And stats avenue?!

    Stats Avenue.

Kyle, is there a chance of, or any talk of, running the A-Grade as a checking league? If not, would you be able to pass me the details of the organiser? (Not sure who it is this year).

He means the energy drink, clearly.

Thunder have struggled this season, but I have to say I kinda admire their guts. They aren’t whining about it, and they still get out on the ice every game and give it everything.

Agreed. Devils are, imho, the most solid and consistent team int he league. Admirals will have to really pull something amazing out of the hat to get a win.

As I understand it, the devils and stampede are 3-3 in QT, so history doesn’t really back you up there.

P.S. I was watching you play in your last game vs. the thunder. You got quite a bit of time on the ice eh? You played well.

I’m saying Devils win in QT, because I think devils are the slightly stronger team and because QT is easier for me to drive to than CHCH

A stampede / devils final will be an awesome game. I have no idea which way I’d call that one, two very, very strong teams.
