I never knew the QIHC were so involved with the Stampede. I thought it was run as an entirely separate entity much like the Thunder is.
[/quote:stpu0slr]Well I guess it’s actually supposed to be the Southern League that organises and hosts the games for Stampede. I know that Thunder in different because they made that call to go out on their own when they started up. Like I’ve said previously, Stampede games are organised by the Queenstown Club and the Sopers from Gore.
cowgirlMemberYeah, it’s not hard to spread the word.
I forgot to put ‘last year’ on my last post! This year we’ve ditched the rest of the country and are focusing on Stampede home games solely which are rockin!cowgirlMemberA couple of us in Queenstown worked really hard on marketing for the league. We sent out over 100 sponsorship proposals, got The Rock on board nationally, did all the posters, flyers, newspaper ads nationally, built a website, sent out press releases weekly to the media (not just the club members!!! LOL). But we found at the end of the year we got nothing back but criticism from everybody north of Dunedin. It’s really hard to get everybody to have a positive attitude and I mean the people involved. Everyone has an ‘if’ or a ‘but’, how ’bout just doing it! It’s a cool sport and sure it’s friggin expensive but hey, it’s always gonna be if we don’t do anything about it!
How bout emailling all the schools in Dunedin, I did it for The Worlds and got a really good response. 5 or 6 emailled me back saying thanks for letting us know, we never hear about ice hockey!
cowgirlMemberWell perhaps it’s different in Dunedin.
We provide our own security. We set everything up ourselves including the music/sound system. We clean up the rink before the games and after. We (QIHC) actually own the boards and all the netting so any damage is repaired at our own expense. They simply run the canteen and groom the ice.cowgirlMemberI agree, same deal in Queenstown. We pay the rink $350 per hour for the facilities but we run the event so we take any profit. With the NZIHL, $3700 has to go to the league per round and then we pay seating & advertising. Anything above that goes back to the club.
cowgirlMemberI didn’t think they stood out, will be good to see Bertie back.
cowgirlMemberThe smallest crowds we get in Queenstown are 250.
We do a lot of advertising and marketing though. We have The Rock as a major sponsor so we have radio advertising over 6 stations.
We also print about 100 posters for each round. Do flyer drops. Newspaper advertising over and above the one ad NZIHL pay for.
Our booking system also has it’s own marketing section for all the hotels in Queenstown. It sends them all a message a couple of days before the event giving details. Their guests can book their tickets directly from the hotel’s reception.
We have to make up for the $16k for the seating we have to pay for so it’s worthwhile getting bums on seats so the club doesn’t lose lots of money!
I also do email marketing to all people who have previously bought tickets (the booking system keeps a database), members, previous members and my work contacts.cowgirlMember"Azzy77":13e3ypqt wrote:I don’t think the coach tried to vandalise the rink it looked more like he hit the wall out of frustration, which is not entirely appropriate. But it he definitely not try and maliciously vandalise the rink.
[/quote:13e3ypqt]He actually intentionally grabbed the wire netting over the windows on the back wall of the rink and tugged hard enough to rip part of it off the wall. I saw it happen from about 10 metres away. And yes, I saw the sock on your head, very snazzy!
I wouldn’t go as far to say he was vadalising the rink, but he did do some damage that had to be repaired, and lets face it, we’d all be pretty damn frustrated if we were put in that same position."vpatrol":13e3ypqt wrote:People should forget about the coach and find the people that vandalized the new Thunder jerseys.
[/quote:13e3ypqt]BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA, That’s the funniest thing you’ve ever said!
cowgirlMemberI think Swarm will step up and take one.

[/quote:bj4pvgx0]Oh well then, it must be right!
cowgirlMember"plod16":32f8fvp8 wrote:Point is until Southern provide any suitable referees to ref in the league you will have to get used to it. There has been the same argument for years. The last good ref down south was Finchy! Think he left about 8 years ago.
[/quote:32f8fvp8]When are Canterbury going to get good refs?!
The Stampede don’t want a Southern ref they want a neutral ref! The Auckland teams want a Southern ref so they don’t have to put up with the same thing when they play Canty.
So, why was Haxel not reffing in Christchurch on the weekend? Wouldn’t it have made sense to send a Canty ref up there?
Also, whatever happened to Nancy? She was good!
cowgirlMemberOh, yes you are right. But I also see it was actually the Swarm who played the Red Devils on Saturday according to the score sheet! Hmmmm but with the Stampede players!
cowgirlMemberThat was the first time I had seen Vince play and well, it wasn’t as horrific as I expected. Not a bad job.
I don’t think any of the goalies on the weekend were outstanding.
The Devils had more shots on in both games, only by 3 in the first game I think then by a couple of hundred in the second game ” title=”Wink” />cowgirlMemberOne ten minute penalty in that game
cowgirlMemberAnd…
16 mins for Stampede in the first game and Devils had 8 mins.
Amazing discipline perhaps? -
