Did we not have a coach on the bench for the whole 3rd period??!!
That better not be true?
[/quote:1jdyc6d4]Well coach Simon Christos did pretty well in his first game as head coach. The player suffered a mild concussion in game one and was thrown into the role of coach in the 3rd period keeping the heart of the team strong. Definitely an inspiring story for anyone who was there.
Defense101MemberThe quickest analogy I could think of is that hockey is like a standup comedy. It is usually very fast paced and the comedian has a set of jokes that they will use to achieve their goal and will cycle through the jokes to get the result. If something happens differently then what they expect they they go with it and improvise to achieve the same result.
Defense101MemberHaha I like the way you put that it’s pretty funny and true.

I don’t see many HC Davos shirts in the shops. As a person who has bought supporter jerseys in the past, I would be pretty disappointed when 3 years later, every logo on the jersey is irrelevent because all the sponsors have changed. However the oilers jersey I bought in the early 90’s is still pretty current because of one important logo. I’m pretty happy about that as a fan.
[/quote:m0vdthwv]I don’t know if it’s because of the marketing that the NHL is so popular V. It takes the best hockey players from around the world and was the first true professional hockey league in the world. It has been around for decades and has established itself as the best league in the world. So naturally they don’t need to recognize a dozen sponsors on their jerseys because that isn’t something the sponsors need in order to be recognized at that level. Just having their fingers wet by being a part of the NHL is good enough for them. Check out the french professional league. See how many sponsors they have on their jerseys.
Defense101MemberI think nationals is a little different then the NZIHL although it is a national league. I hope you weren’t referring to tuition fees as chump change because I might actually take offense to that.
Defense101MemberLoL not to cheap for the students paying 6000$ for school Ryan. Some even have to pay more cough* cough*
Defense101MemberAre you trying to say EH? My Canadian blood only understands eh not ah or aye or anything like that ” title=”Tongue” />
Defense101MemberI think that is a misconception many people have. All the players on the team pay to play. We had trials and tryouts for the team and the people who were selected have to pay 1000$ nzd for the season. Just so people can understand our season isn’t free even with sponsors we have to pay that.
Defense101MemberThe idea behind it from what I understand is to try and bring more attention to ice hockey in NZ. Sports all around the world (Rugby, Soccer, Ice hockey etc.) All have sponsors which they plaster across their Jerseys to get larger investors and sponsors involved in the sport and Thunder was lucky enough to have that this year so the Jerseys and socks are a way to represent for them. I think Azzy mentioned the other day that it’s only in North America that teams Jerseys are sponsor free and have just the team Logo on the front mainly because the sports are already established in those countries. Having sponsors and recognizing them on the jerseys is just another way to say thanks for the support and promote the sport a little more. They might not look as good as the old ones but at least the players get to keep them at the end of the season.
Defense101MemberI appreciate hearing the positiveness of you guys regarding this weekends games. Our team definitely appreciates any support you are willing to give and I promise you that I will try to make this game as physical and clean as possible can and say our team is ready to pummel some Stampede as well!
Defense101MemberYou know I didn’t see what was said in the paper and I know that some mistakes or a different approach was taken by Jens when coaching but he has done so much for the team and to try and get more people interested in hockey this season then Al or Bode had ever done so I think he’s doing the best he can. He may not have coached at a level this high before but he’s doing the best he can so you can’t knock him for that.
Defense101MemberIt’s to bad you missed the post on the Thunder vs. Red Devils because 3 players including myself apologized for the horrible performance and said we were embarrassed not just from the 15 – 2 loss and 11-0 loss but for not saying thanks and meeting the people who came to watch our games. Between periods some of the players went out and gave kids high fives even when we were getting pounded but yes we know that we should have thanked everyone who came and honestly we are all very ashamed that we didn’t take the time to say thank you. For a lot of us this is a new level of hockey and as stupid as it sounds we forget that there are amazing people supporting us and willing to pay money to watch us play. I know I have never had that before and it’s quite embarrassing realizing that we would forget to do something so important. Again from myself and the entire time we’re sorry for that and we are definitely doing everything in our power to up our game and say thank you to everyone that has come to support us.
Defense101MemberI think the sportsmenship of your team during the game was fairly poor Vince so I wouldn’t talk to Blakie about that. I think James had quite a few great hits this weekend and the original contact of the hit was clean the door just happened to not be opened and the player twisted around and went face first. It happens and the ref watched it and said it was clean. There were a few times players were hit from the shoulders and went face first not the attackers fault it was the person receiving the hit probably trying to get a call and for your player it just didn’t turn out as he was expecting. Anyways congrats on your win Vince your team played really well.
Defense101MemberReffing yesterday was a thing of beauty and although you had a couple of trips Kyle I think your fellow linesmen or ref shoulda told you about Eaden creeping up behind you. In anycase we do have lots to think about and try to straighten out. We definitely played better Sunday but so did the Devils. Thanks to everyone who came out and supported the team and sorry for not a better show (guess I’m repeating what blake and aaron said) we all appreciate everything the club, fans and sponsors have done for us and hopefully we’ll do you proud very soon.

Um I don’t think the team has been changed to “spnsors”. Is that even a word “spnsors”? -
