Clearly a silhouette of a field hockey player….
GavrocheMemberLooks great! Love the layout etc
GavrocheMemberor Hohaia?
GavrocheMemberNot bad analysis, prod, but I would contend that the Devils, in coming back from 4-1 down to 4-3 in Game One, then coming back from 3-0 down to 3-2 in Game Two, did in fact have some momentum and a for a few minutes at least looked like the team I watched in Auckland the week before.
GavrocheMembervp, kelf, give it up – the refs here will never change their attitude. I’ve never met a group of individuals who exhibit such a breathtaking level of arrogance and inability to admit that they may be less than perfect – all you’ll hear is a list of reasons why its the players/coaches fault and never theirs. I’ve dealt with many Import players in recent years, and they all tell me the same story – NZ refs are very poor compared to what they’re used to overseas. I could live with the local refs reflecting the local players and NZ’s place in the world rankings, but what I can’t live with or understand is how they seem to THINK that they’re so damn good when they clearly aren’t. Some humility or pride-swallowing would go a long way. However they’re taught to never change their mind on a call, and they extend that to mean that they should never admit when they’re wrong – the two are subtly different. When the day comes when refs can TRULY admit that they need to take steps to improve, then there is hope for us all. Until then, we’re all wasting our breath. Just wait for Plod to prove my point….
GavrocheMemberDoes anyone know who the Imports are for the Auckland teams? Canterbury look like they have plenty (Canaday, Bahl, Papai, Sparf, Kemp, Leclancher) and Thunder have Enright, Stevens and Saeed – what about the other teams?
GavrocheMemberI’ve heard today from a good authority that Alpine will re-open next Friday night, March 11
GavrocheMemberyep, definitely Avondale….

GavrocheMemberJaimee had an awesome game, as did in fact both teams. This was one of the best games to watch – played at a good pace and with plenty of physicality, unlike yesterday’s second game where Canterbury were clearly exhausted after playing earlier in the day. Southern also played well yesterday to cement the Silver medal with a game in hand. All in all, the inaugural NZJEL was a clear success and hats off to Andreas Kaiser and Jeff Bonazzo for putting together a great product.
GavrocheMemberCongratulations to Canterbury who (if the maths supplied to me is correct) have wrapped up the inaugural NZJEL trophy with 2 wins from 2 against Southern. Yesterday’s game started physically but ended up with Canterbury dominating 15 to 4, while today’s game was a much closer affair, with Southern trailing by 5 to 4 going into the third, only for Canterbury to ease out to a 9-5 victory. Some concern over Southern’s Logan Froriep who was stretchered off to Hospital with what looked like extreme dehydration/exhaustion, while Canterbury’s Greg Miller consolidated his position at the top of the pointscoring table with a 12 goal weekend.
The crowd was treated to some very good quality hockey, with many people agreeing that these games exhibit better teamwork and passing plays than the NZIHL games.GavrocheMemberHi Ryan, long time listener, first time caller ” title=”Tongue” />
No, I don’t have anything to do with the league – I’m just a fan. Based in Christchurch (perhaps obvious)GavrocheMemberCanterbury are looking pretty solid so far – they just cleaned up Auckland twice this weekend. Game 1 was a 5-1 win, and Game 2 just this morning was 7-1 Canterbury. Some talented young players on the Canty team, like Jagau, Miller, Ratcliffe, Kennedy, Apps, and Hotchin doing a good job in net. If you get a chance, go along and watch some of these games – its good hockey!
