What? You don’t want to read through five pages of me dribbling on about surfaces, netting and cooling towers? Fair enough …

[b:35c05hz8]What?[/b:35c05hz8]
[list:35c05hz8]
[*:35c05hz8]Shooting gallery for firing pucks into a net[/*:m:35c05hz8]
[*:35c05hz8]It’s [i:35c05hz8]about[/i:35c05hz8] 16 m long I think[/*:m:35c05hz8]
[*:35c05hz8]We have plastic boards similar to the main rink[/*:m:35c05hz8]
[*:35c05hz8]There’s netting all the way round[/*:m:35c05hz8]
[*:35c05hz8]There’s some metal caging at the end as double protection to protect the cooling tower[/*:m:35c05hz8]
[*:35c05hz8]It will presumably be used for puck handling, possibly passing practice etc. as well[/*:m:35c05hz8][/list:u:35c05hz8]

[b:35c05hz8]Where?[/b:35c05hz8]
[list:35c05hz8]
[*:35c05hz8]It’s below the main grandstand, above the changing rooms/social room[/*:m:35c05hz8]
[*:35c05hz8]There’s a cooling tower for the main refridgeration system in the centre so we can only use one end[/*:m:35c05hz8]
[*:35c05hz8]You can access it via the stairs you pass on the way to the changing room (between the curling and hockey rinks). Turn left at the top of the stairs and follow your way around the back of the grandstand, it’s behind there.[/*:m:35c05hz8][/list:u:35c05hz8]

[b:35c05hz8]When?[/b:35c05hz8]
[list:35c05hz8]
[*:35c05hz8]Completion date unknown – depends on volunteers – hopefully within a week or so but we’ll have too see what Hans gets done[/*:m:35c05hz8]
[*:35c05hz8]Can I use it now? Yes, but you’ll likely get banned from the rink so don’t try it! The netting isn’t attached properly so the cooling tower is open to damage – that’s really bad by the way![/*:m:35c05hz8][/list:u:35c05hz8]

[b:35c05hz8]Who?[/b:35c05hz8]
[list:35c05hz8]
[*:35c05hz8]At this stage it’s likely that people involved with the administration side of the club, team managers, coaches etc. will have access to a key for it.[/*:m:35c05hz8]
[*:35c05hz8]To prevent vandalism you will need to use it when someone with a key is there to keep an eye on it[/*:m:35c05hz8]
[*:35c05hz8]It will be available for anyone to use as long as the rink is open and someone with access to the key is there[/*:m:35c05hz8][/list:u:35c05hz8]

[b:35c05hz8]What needs done?[/b:35c05hz8]
[list:35c05hz8]
[*:35c05hz8]Netting attached to boards[/*:m:35c05hz8]
[*:35c05hz8]Boards reinforced and attached to floor[/*:m:35c05hz8]
[*:35c05hz8]Lighting installed[/*:m:35c05hz8]
[*:35c05hz8]Netting put in place as a ceiling – currently only the sides are done[/*:m:35c05hz8][/list:u:35c05hz8]

[b:35c05hz8]Future Developments?[/b:35c05hz8]
[list:35c05hz8]
[*:35c05hz8]The floor may be painted which will make it look really fancy, improve the lighting and provide more grip for inline skate wheels[/*:m:35c05hz8]
[*:35c05hz8]Phil Pielak-Jones is talking about installing a radar gun for measuring shot speed[/*:m:35c05hz8]
[*:35c05hz8]Shot pad may be installed – basically a sheet of plastic to stand on for shooting from if you don’t have roller hockey skates to wear[/*:m:35c05hz8][/list:u:35c05hz8]

My computer is a mac, and the bizarre varieties of files that people post are really unhelpful. Some of them are windows-specific files.[/quote:m3fl47o2]

That’s odd as I was having the opposite trouble, I needed a Mac to play the videos. After some fiddling I did find ways to get them to work. I haven’t had any problems other than that. Fast downloads and good quality video. Much easier than downloading TV shows, movies etc. as there’s less crud to filter through.

Ryan,

It’s out of my hands now unfortunately. I was planning to do it all myself but Hans has kindly taken it over for me But I’m not sure where he’s at with it now. Last I saw the side nets were up but not attached at the bottom, the lights weren’t up but waiting for installation and the boards weren’t attached to anything just loosely balanced on the ground. So still some work to be done. The boards/attachments for the nets was to be done by James van Leeuwen last I heard.

Any information is good information.

I think if I can get enough people posting about the schools league here the information will just start flowing in, kinda like the premier team results are at the moment. They’re making their way here by word of mouth faster than the official results are, which is great as the official results are coming in WAY faster than last season. Fingers crossed the schools league will become similar

You need to be given access to use it though, it’s not open to the public. I’ll PM you my login and password so you can use that. Tom is currently using mine.

Ryan,

in reply to: Dunedin Premier Team Results #3375

Results for the latest SIHL rounds including the premier grade now available http://www.dunedinicehockey.hellyer.kiwi/sihl/%5B/url:kz9q8e8z%5D.

Another set of solid performances by the Dunedin teams.

[i:kz9q8e8z]Off-topic:[/i:kz9q8e8z] Does anyone know if the ‘premier grade’ is actually called the ‘premier grade’ anymore? Or is it the ‘senior checking’ grade? The results I get sent and the schedule says ‘senior checking’ so I thought maybe there’d been a name change.

Stefan, was this what you were talking about?
http://www.dunedinicehockey.hellyer.kiwi/forum/index.php?topic=235.0%5B/url:1xmhyrkn%5D
I posted that quite a while back I think, but it was a question by me about the way the league was run, not a question of how you were running your team. And I figured it out and gave an explanation half way through typing it, plus Kyle confirmed it anyway that it was infact a ‘new’ team, not the existing team from last season, you just happened to have many of the same players and the same team name – purely a technicality.

[b:1xmhyrkn]Off-topic: [/b:1xmhyrkn]the reason for allowing ‘existing teams’ to keep their roster and pick from the draft pool is so that teams can keep their same team rosters season after season without fear of having players pinched from their team due to annoying organisers. Basically if your team improves, good on you, you aren’t going to get punished for it which tended to happen under the old scheme. There was no motivation to improve your team, because if you did, you would have just had players taken from you. This is similar to the system used in the Christchurch SNC, although their system is a lot stricter, ours is setup with a lot more power placed in the hands of the organisers – sort of half way between the old DIHL and the ChCh SNC system.

What are the gradings for the A-grade teams now Kyle? Last I spoke to you the other teams were way down and could easily have recruited some 10’s either as permanent recruits or casuals no problems at all without going over their grading limit.

Ryan,

in reply to: Phantoms lineup #3901

Stefan now has access in here, set it up a minute ago.

I don’t think there is any issue with your team being supposedly stacked at all, people are just winging coz they don’t know the rules. Anyone else could have formed a decent team if they wanted, they’re just too fat and lazy so good on you I say. I haven’t checked, but Kyle says you fit under the average grade limit so you’re not even bending the rules let along breaking them.

Nice one prems. Sounds like the team is having a really good start to the season.

From the schedule, looks like next time you have a home game is 7 July. Have to see if I can arrange to get that night free to come down and support the team.

Ditto that. I was quite bummed I missed out on seeing the team last time. If anyone remembers, please remind me to post some prominent advertising about the game next time here on the site.

in reply to: May 13th SIHL Senior Non-Checking round schedule #3883

Somebody’s doing a good job obviously!

Last I heard Rob Owens had volunteered to do some marketing work for the club so perhaps it was him?

Ryan,

in reply to: May 13th SIHL Senior Non-Checking round schedule #3881

Don’t worry! I’ve answered my own question.

At the end of an email from Joyce Miller was a new schedule for todays games and it is indeed at 4:30pm. I got confused as I was sent an updated full schedule for the whole season from the SIHL secretary after the email from Joyce but I guess the full schedule had an error in it.

Thanks. Original was only 320×240 though, I was hoping the original’d be 640×480 or higher then it’d look awesome The sound quality on the one you sent me was definitely better though.

Another cool video Tom

Is the original file better quality?
If so, it’d be great if you could email it to me at webadmin@dunedinicehockey.hellyer.kiwi[/url:18y6w9ht] and I’ll upload it here to the site. I can handle up to 20 MB files by email. I said a while back that I wouldn’t be uploading copyrighted stuff like this, but I’ve changed my mind now. I can always pull it down if the copyright holders get pissy at me
