Ryan,

in reply to: Schedule #3520

Bring whatever you feel is necessary to improve your hockey – although I’m assuming a helmet is mandatory.

Typically in Canada, 80% of players brought full gear. Personally I just took skates, helmet, knee and elbow pads.

Kids power skating is on Tuesday, DIHL has moved to a later time on the same night.

I hate the current schedule, it’s a mess. Apart from the notice I put up on the website last night I haven’t seen any other advertising for it.

Well this has to rank up there as one of the weirdest topics to be posted here!

But perhaps the pertinent question should be “can gods become knights?”

It never ceases to amaze me how excited you guys get over a discussion about rules! Most of these don’t have any effect in yer average game anyway.

I’m not even sure how’d you’d regulate a rule like that anyway. You can’t just put somebody in the box for icing the puck obviously, and deciding whether someone is doing it to delay the game is a bit arbitrary and open to interpretation.

Yeah that was Mike, but that will likely be some time away.

Anyone feel like working out what exactly needs to be on the stats pages? I made some mock up pages for Mike a while back, but I’m not really into this type of thing. I’d rather have someone who knows what should be on each page to draw something up – even something in excel or word would do, just so long as it shows what should be on each page. Then I can turn those into proper web pages so that Mike knows exactly what he needs to output to the pages.

Man ??? That’s really confusing Nobody is going to have clue who either of you are now.

Michael was discussing with Stefan after the game whether or not intentional icing in the last couple of minutes could be called ‘delay of game’. I can’t find it in the case book, but perhaps Michael will find the reference.[/quote:3rdb9i7p]

[b:3rdb9i7p]My highly uneducated guess on the situation:[/b:3rdb9i7p]
I don’t think the rules/casebooks take running-time games into account – although I could be entirely wrong. Intentional icing would only be a problem in running time games so I’m not sure you’re going to find a rule on this in there. If I’m right, then we probably need to add another rule into the DIHA Rule Book to cover stuff like this.

Ryan,

PS: Finding goal judges is a pain in the backside.

That sounds awesome I’m happy to upload anything you send me to the site. The videos/photos gallery has thrown a hissy fit at the moment, but hopefully I’ll be able to fix that.

The more videos the better We’ve got heaps of space on here too, so don’t worry about how big they are – albeit make sure they’re well compressed first.

Ryan,

PS: I’ll PM details on how to get files to me

Ryan,

in reply to: Money Making!!! #3392

Well the site only costs $39.99+GST per year for the domain name – yes I know it’s possible to get them for $29.95 but I couldn’t be bothered shopping around.

The web hosting is free though, it runs off the back of my own personal account so doesn’t cost the club a cent.

I’m all for advertising. I’ve looked at using Google Adwords, but the amount of money we’d make wouldn’t really justify how annoying the ads would be (<$40/year probably). However if we could get direct advertising, say from SK8 or something like that, then it may be more doable. AFAIK we get more traffic on here than any other hockey sites in New Zealand so it wouldn’t be a bad investment. I’m pretty sure a decent proportion of our New Zealand visitors [b:35xtysg3]aren’t[/b:35xtysg3] from Dunedin, probably players from other regions, so they wouldn’t be just marketing to Dunedinites – but this kind of thing is impossible to track accurately, so who knows. So in a nutshell, yep, advertising is a good idea, but only if we can get a decent amount for it. I’m not keen on cluttering it up with annoying banner ads or pop ups or anything unless we’re getting a decent amount of coin for it. Ryan, PS: I’d need to run any advertising by the DIHA first, but can’t imagine they’d mind though.
