Bad news … I just heard from Bode (premier team coach) that the Rangers did not have their best players there Oh well, maybe they’ll get a chance to have a crack at them next time. Still a good result nonetheless.

Awesome Congratulations premier team guys!
Apart from their last game against Dunedin when they were missing all their Ice Blacks, I think that’s the first time the Queenstown Rangers have lost a game in quite some time – maybe four years? Anybody able to confirm that?

Not that I’m aware of. I think this is the cost to attend SNC practice from now on. A bizarre email has been circulating round saying that we need to pay at least $100 within four days for our practices. The email didn’t make much sense to me though and I’m not sure where it came from.

Yeah, there’s been some weird emails going around about ice time lately. I’m not even sure where these decisions are coming from as I’m on the committee and haven’t heard a thing apart from via my team manager and even he didn’t seem to know what was going on or make any sense of it!?

I definitely wasn’t suggesting this as a viable option if that’s what anyone thought.

I hadn’t thought about the load the floor could carry actually.

Any idea what the story will be when it’s done about having access to it? And, will there be a cost?[/quote:2n4vv616]

There’ll be a key at the rink which will be available to certain members of our club. Obvious candidates being coaches, managers etc. I had a chat with Neil the other week about the cost and after a brief discussion about how much he’d make out of it, he decided to charge us the grand some of zip, zero, nothing So we can use it as much as we want for free

Well, probably slim to none, as while hypothetically someone could raise the money, there’s nowhere left in the building left to lay ice. Unless someone wants to run all the curlers out of town, but I can’t imagine that Neil would look on that too kindly.[/quote:2n4vv616]

Untrue, there’s also the other side of the cooling tower which is (I think) exactly the same size as the end we’re using for the existing gallery. Plus there’s the bowls hall upstairs at the front of the building I don’t see either of those options coming to fruition any time soon though

[b:38kzqhd9]Update:[/b:38kzqhd9]
[list:38kzqhd9]
[*:38kzqhd9]Bode and I put up some high tension wiring to support the netting and put the nets up along one side. We ran out of time to get the rest up though. Hopefully we’ll get the nets up soon though.[/*:m:38kzqhd9]
[*:38kzqhd9]James van Leeuwen is planning to do some bracing on the boards as they’re pretty wobbly as is and will be fitting something to pin the nets to them.[/*:m:38kzqhd9]
[*:38kzqhd9]I have the lights ready, I just need to get them to the rink. Our electrician is planning on installing them shortly – hopefully by the weekend.[/*:m:38kzqhd9]
[*:38kzqhd9]James or Hans (can’t remember which) will also be installing a new door and a lock on it to keep the public out.[/*:m:38kzqhd9]
[*:38kzqhd9]There’s a possibility of the floor being painted, but that’s not certain, depends if a few things fall into place or not.[/*:m:38kzqhd9][/list:u:38kzqhd9]

Aaron Bryant volunteered. I think I’ve only been sent one set so far though I’m guessing he’s busy with uni. stuff or something.

If dirt bike riding means a motor bike, then the helmet is definitely not up to scratch. I wouldn’t recommend any hockey helmets for motor cycles – they’re probably not too bad for push bikes though.

And welcome to the forum

…..

the thing to do is to bring it to a DIHA meeting (meetings first mondays of each month at 7:30 at rink) and we can work on it for next year.[/quote:35njtp9p]

Thanks for the run down Paul There’s probably not much point pushing my own view on the scheduling issues as I suspect I’m in the minority with my view on things.

in reply to: Dunedin Ice Hockey League 2007 #2268

Good point about the practices being all season.

Personally I like the idea of DIHL games taking presidence over practices, but I guess that’s a debatable thing really – different strokes for different folks and all that. And yep, the schedule is a messy thing. Hopefully it can be sorted out pre-season next year so these blips can be avoided.

Ryan,

I’d rather see training at marginal times and games at good times. We need to get spectators to the games, not to practices. Spectators are a lot less likely to turn up to a 9:10pm game start than a 8:10pm one. Plus it’s more important that we get players for games rather than practice.
