All the SIHL teams are known as the “Southern Knights”
Dunedin SNC team is known as the “Dunedin Ducks”
I’m not sure whether these are the official names though. The last time I was involved with running a DIHA based SIHL team we were entered as the Dunedin B team although we called ourselves the “Bears”.

Where the heck are you people finding our site from? I didn’t think information about ice hockey in little old Dunedin, New Zealand would be much interest to a web designer in Montenegro!
Ryan,
imported_RyanMemberYeah, I might need alert the committee to this problem as it happens quite a lot. I suspect the premier, women and peewees practises haven’t been on over Xmas either but I’ve still got them posted on the home page as such because I haven’t been told otherwise. Not much point organising practises if noones told when they’re on or they’re not on when they’re told they are !?
Ryan,
imported_RyanMemberGot an email from Joyce Miller about Sunday hockey:
From the home page:

Important: Sunday hockey is back on again! Beginners 5:30pm, social scrimmage 6:30pm.[/quote:3nlht8q6]imported_RyanMemberMike. Do you have any experience installing web mail programs? I can get webmail acounts setup for our webhost easy enough, but I’d like to have a really fancy custom templated interface so that it could be integrated into the existing site without looking to out of place, kinda like the forum is now (it looked quite different to the rest of the site till recently). I tried installing RoundCube but I had issues trying to configure it to work correctly as I really don’t know what the heck I’m doing – just sort of hacking at it and following online advice to get it to work. My webhost will let me install RoundCube via a CPanel but I can’t customise it that way unfortunately, I need to manually install it to customise it ” title=”Sad” />
I have a vague plan of offering @dunedinicehockey.hellyer.kiwi email accounts to members, either for a small fee ($5 or so, money going back to the club) or maybe for free.
Ryan,
imported_RyanMemberI just checked out [url:1c01x0b0]http://www.oswd.org/[/url:1c01x0b0]. Those templates aren’t too bad. Most templates I’ve seen are hideously badly coded but those weren’t too bad from what I saw. I checked two and there were only minor bugs here and there. They also looked a lot easier to modify than some as they’re not complicated with a bunch of nested tables all over the place. Of course I’m sure there are a few bad eggs in there, but 2/2 good ones checked isn’t too shabby.
Ryan,
imported_RyanMemberWhat kind of programming do you do Mike?
I’ve been trying to learn a bit about PHP lately, but I’m not very good at it. Still trying to get to grips with the absolute basics.
imported_RyanMemberHi,
Yeah I designed this myself.
I have no idea where to get templates from sorry, I’ve never used one before. I designed this in a combination of Adobe Photoshop and PaintshopPro and coded everything by hand.If you’re interested in designing your own site then I recommend doing some google searching on HTML and CSS. If you get stuck and need help feel free to post here, I’m more than happy to help ” title=”Smiley” /> Another source of help is [url:bik3seat]http://www.sitepoint.com/[/url:bik3seat] which has a whole fleet of expert web designers who can help with anything and everything.
Sitepoint also has a market place where you can pay to have websites professionally prepared for you, although that’s probably not what you’re looking for. Cost is NZ$250 for a decent looking design, plus another ~$200 for coding.
Also, if you want something simple to maintain and update, there’s a whole fleet of CMS (content management systems) around which allow you to update your site through a simple online wysiwyg text editor rather than having to edit the code by hand. I’m currently in the process of integrating a custom built one into this site but I keep redesigning it before I get it finished as I always find a better way of doing things! I haven’t used any of the off-the-shelf CMS’s but I do know a little about them. Here’s my rather uneducated opinion of three of them:
[url:bik3seat]http://wordpress.org/[/url:bik3seat] – very popular, not as advanced as Joomla but simpler to use and templating is fairly simple
[url:bik3seat]http://www.joomla.org/[/url:bik3seat] – extremely popular, very commonly used with large corporations, perhaps not as easy to customise as WordPress and has lots of features you’re unlikely to use.
[url:bik3seat]http://www.drupal.org/[/url:bik3seat] – Like Joomla, but simpler I think, with a few less functions.Hopefully that’s of some help ” title=”Smiley” />
Ryan,
imported_RyanMemberWelcome to the forum Mike ” title=”Smiley” />
I thought you were a spambot when I first saw your topic! We’ve had a few posts from spambots posting crap about hard core porn and the like lately!
I [b:37u3eq8v]think[/b:37u3eq8v] the Sunday sessions are starting up in seven days time but I could be wrong. If anyone knows otherwise please let me know ASAP. Oddly noone ever thinks of telling me when practises start or finish! Pretty stupid considering I’m the one posting the practise times!? Grizzle, grizzle, grumble …
I think the beginners practise may be starting around the same time too although I’m not sure about that either.
imported_RyanMemberAnd a glossary now too:

[url:5eu99ggh]http://www.netconceal.com/[/url:5eu99ggh] programEDIT: I can’t seem to find a free downloadable program for this (haven’t looked very hard either), both of the programs above are commercial products. If anyone finds a suitable free program please post here ” title=”Smiley” />
Ryan,
imported_RyanMemberWrap the crap out of them with Duct tape so that if they get bashed they’re less likely to break. Even a little cushioning from the duct tape will generally stop them breaking from being bashed around. Also, when they’re taped together they’re stronger because there’s more of them and less likely to break from bending. I took 6 (I think) composite sticks as excess luggage from Canada to NZ via Air Canada/Air New Zealand with no probs at all. Cost ~CAN$140 I think.
You could also bubble wrap inside the duct tape if you were really keen to protect them. Stick bags wont do dick all to protect them so don’t even bother. Duct tape is way better.
Ryan,
imported_RyanMemberI think I was little over zealouse with making it in the first place! We barely have enough posts to keep this one running, let along having multiple forums running side by side. A few topics during the season will probably be enough. The Buy And Sell forum is pretty much in the same boat too, I’m tempted to move it to a sticky here in the general forum and then just have the general forum open automatically, more like a typical message board.

Ryan,
imported_RyanMemberYeah I did think of that, but ZERO posts in however many months I left it there seemed a little ridiculous. If people start posting about the SIHL in here I’ll create a new forum, but until then I’ll leave it as is.
