New Facebook page about this scam:

Is that an official rule? Or are you just meaning they’re responsible ethically?

Better quality version:

That seems like a fairly easy thing to do by accident. There seems to be a lot of flap about it now, but it’s always been a known hazard of playing hockey that you might get your head obliterated if you take a check in that position.

Perhaps this will motivate them to introduce a rule explicitly banning body checks in that section of the rink? Or maybe that section of glass should have a wide curve in it so that you just bash off it rather than having you head stop dead in it’s tracks?

Any other ideas on how to prevent this sort of thing happening again?

Emphasis on the [b:1q3u0hxn]most[/b:1q3u0hxn]. And that is only a reference to gate takings. There’s plenty of other ways to pilfer money from people from hockey games.

Kyle, never be in charge of anything involving money please

I didn’t miss the point. I just think that they’ve pumped a bit more cash injection into promoting it and probably have a better idea of, which I haven’t seen hockey organisations in NZ do this extent before.

But yeah, being douche bags and pretending Canada and the USA are competing against each other gives a huge advantage when it comes to pimping the event.

NZ hockey organisations have always sucked at promotion. So I’m not surprised at all that a company which specialises in such things can do a lot better job.

There’s a thread buried somewhere here in the forum about this. There was a suggestion that a promotion company take over the running of big events and allow them to take most of the profit in exchange providing the promotional push to get people along to the games. It was mostly poo poo’d by everybody, hopefully this event will show that it’s not such a silly idea after all. Damned if I can find that old thread anywhere though – if you find it, please post a link here thanks

Of course, they wouldn’t get such good promotion if they weren’t lying their arses off, but it is at least a good demonstration of how to get people talking about the sport, minus the USA vs Canada bullshit.

I would have guessed, though it’s not clear from the material that Shannon and Wilson are the captains of the Canadian moose oldtimers teams that are travelling with the main senior teams, and than Quincey and Schremp are the captains of the senior teams that will play the headlines.

I think that’s optimistic at best.

Quality is very important to them it seems:

And since when was Lake Tekapo “created” by a hydroelectric dam? Isn’t it a natural lake which provides water for a hydroelectric generator?

Schedule:

July 19 Depart Toronto
July 21 Arrive Auckland, NZ
July 22 Practice; Media Event
July 23 Auckland Stadium Game
July 24-26 Local games & sightseeing
July 27 To Christchurch
July 28-29 Local games & sightseeing
July 30 Christchurch Stadium Game
July 31 Lake Tekapo ? local game
Aug 1 – 2 Queenstown ? local game
Aug 3 Dunedin Stadium Game
Aug 4 Depart NZ; Arrive Toronto

So if you want to save buying a ticket, you could just drive to Queenstown or Lake Tekapo and presumably see the same quality of players for free. Or are they charging to see those games too?

in reply to: Canada vs. USA…in New Zealand? #10319

I wonder if those morons at Douglas Webber realise how much of a mockery they’ve now made of themselves with the local hockey community by using the Moose for this?

Unless they’ve beefed their playing level up significantly since they were here last, the level of these games is going to be lower than that of the NZIHL teams we see regularly.

Last time the Moose played here, they got their asses handed to them on a plate by Queenstown. And the standard of NZ hockey has increased quite a bit since then.

Nah, I was referring to “the media”. They were regurgitating the same crap on radio in Wellington. I quoted the Scoop article as that’s where many other articles on the web were linking back to and possibly where the radio got it from.
