FYI:

Beasts lost 3-1 to John McG
Bullfrogs lost to Kings 3-8 (it was 2-3 till last period when our team just weren’t fit enough to keep up)
I didn’t stick round till the end of the last game so don’t know the final score, but the Bears were leading 1-0 after the first period

Yeah, I’ve bruised ribs twice now. Didn’t stop me playing for more than a week or so, but apparently it can be dangerous. The word on the grapevine is that Jack will be back in action tonight.

Cracked rib, ouch! So how long will you be out of action? 6 weeks is normal for bruised ribs I think, Im’ not sure about cracked though, sounds worse than bruised ribs.

Why isn’t the DIHL running for the next two weeks?

I have some ideas for drills which take up a lot more ice hence can accomodate more players at once and include passing, skating with the puck, fast skating etc., no defense at this stage but we could add that in too.

The powerskating lesson would be easy to organise, just sort out ice time with the club (via Joyce) and get Fanis or Deanna to coach. Ice time plus coaching should be under $200 I think, so if you have 20+ players then you’ll be set. You may be able to get a deal with Neil too, so that players pay per person rather than as a group, that way there’s no risk of coming up short on numbers.

[quote:nfo8lpur]I went along to Monday’s meeting again. It wasn’t on the agenda. I raised it in general business, but there didn’t seem to be much point pushing it as no one had read it.[/quote:nfo8lpur]

Sheesh, this is exactly why I don’t like dealing with the DIHA!

[quote:ajaqu50r]It’s rule 9.14 in the rulebook however:[/quote:ajaqu50r]

The rule book still doesn’t seem to have been voted in by the DIHA so it doesn’t apply here. Plus because it’s not official yet it hasn’t been supplied to the teams either.

What the heck’s up with that by the way? Three meetings and all I’ve seen in the minutes is that the rules will be looked at or comments made at the next meeting or something!?

Was still getting spam showing up in the forum yesterday. I thought I’d fixed it the other week, apparently not. We shouldn’t get any more now though. Unless of course the spam bots start registering via fake email addresses which is possible; but I have found a widget addon thingy so that you need to read one of those squiggly messages and type in what it says to register, I’ll add that if we get more spam arriving.

Unless everyone wants to see Maria Carey getting nailed that is?

[quote:36pq8mgq]Last night I line/refed the first game with sean, are there actually suppose to be set refs comming each week?[/quote:36pq8mgq]

Yep, the refs/linesman are organised by the club. Except for the first week of the B-grade when Phil left for a few days and I sourced some refs.

Er, Jack, did I tell you that Antony could play in goal for you guys?

It didn’t even dawn on me that you couldn’t do that till now.
I knew it was going to be Antony in goal for days before the game but I never even thought of it being against the rules!?

It’s possible I may have even said it was okay if I was asked – I have no recollection of it but it’s possible. Mental block or something – my bad.

The beginners group often complains that they do way too much skating practise in what is a hockey session. A decent proportion (60% perhaps?) are attending actual skating lessons, the thing is though that they are going to figure skating lessons which is all good and well, but doesn’t teach them much about raw speed. I was trying to emphasise that to some of them a while back, but quite rightly they tend to pay more attention to what Deanna says which seems to be to concentrate on the fancy stuff and leave the speed till later.

But yeah I agree. I’m fairly certain I could skate faster than most of the current beginners crop when I first started, albeit I couldn’t do the fancy stuff so well. But speed wins over fancy stuff almost every time, particularly if you can combine the speed with an ability to stop at high speed as well.

Yeah, 7-0 after the first period was a little gutting.

Some quick advice to our newbies on defense seemed to help a lot for the next two periods but Jonnies still sunk an extra 5 goals in the next two periods.

More defense required in the future! I started playing back a bit during the last two periods which helped somewhat, but left us a little short on any attacking ability so all up a little awkward really. I felt like a bit of a marked man after the first period, I’d grab the puck and make a run for the goal on my own and next thing I had 3 of our opposition hacking at my feet trying to get the puck and since I’d generally just outrun my own team who still hadn’t made it to the blue line I had noone to pass to, so that route to scoring goals turned out to be a little futile (will know better for next time).

Good solid defense by John McGlashan though and some solid passing and team work, nice breakouts, passes right infront of our goalie followed by quick snap shots into our net were all quite impressive. We really didn’t have much of a reply for it really, I never expected them to be quite as well drilled as they were. They didn’t seem to have any star players who were scoring at will either, most of their goals were scored from good tactics, not just skating through us willy nilly.

They also had a lot more speed than us, our defense would be nicely in position on the blue line where they should be, but our opposition could skate so much faster than us that 3 on zero breakouts were a tad more common than we’d like. Even when our defense were hanging back at the red line in the second and third periods they still kept breaking past with their speed. Devin was definitely left high and dry on a decent number of those goals that went past him.

Devin incidentally is now our official goalie as Becky is unfortunately out for the rest of the season – ligament damage or something I think.

Hmm, that Bullfrogs vs John McGlashan score was a bit off the mark. 13 – 1. Unfortunately to John McGlashan

Kudos to Justin Biggs for scoring our one and only goal though.

Stats for the B-grade from last week should be up in the next hour or so.
